Well, it finally happened. After MONTHS of saying that we were going to go, Hubby and I hopped into the car and went to the Ribbon Outlet in Hagerstown, MD. All I can say about it is HOLY MOLY! :p
I still cannot believe all the stuff I bought for the price I paid! I should have taken a picture! Would you believe I got a HUGE bag of stuff for only $37? To give you an idea, I bought:
100 yards of 5/8" white grosgrain ribbon (this was my "splurge" at $10! Yeah, $10 for 100 yards!)
4 rolls of 25 yards (i think? maybe more?) of ric-rac ribbon (only $2.50 each!)
2 Wide Organdy rolls for $1 (like 50 yards, I would guess!) and $2 (for like 25 yards)
several of the $0.35 bags of ribbon (mostly satin ribbon in various colors, lengths and widths)
Like 20 of their felt and ribbon flower embellishments at - $0.10 each! Each pack had 4-6 flowers in it for that price!
3 rolls of twill tape (I think they were also 25 yards each) - they were different sizes and colors at $2, $3 and $5
1 roll of silver fiber for $1
Various rolls of other ribbons for $0.10 EACH! (really wide olive twill, a white satin one with "baby" written on it, a stretchy Groovy Guava colored cord with fibers on it, etc)
4 small spools (4 feet, I think?) of white ric rac ribbon with buttons on it - $0.25 each!
3 packs of NICE, glittered and/or foiled tissue paper $0.75 each
I know I'm forgetting a few things, but WOW! It was so awesome! I actually would have bought A LOT more, but someone on here had mentioned to bring a cardstock ring, and boy am I glad that I did. There were SEVERAL rolls that I thought were dead on for this color or that color, but once I held it to my cardstock ring, I found out it wasn't the match that I thought it was. I saved myself a lot of money (and grief!) by having that cardstock ring to match colors. Anyway, it was A LOT of fun and I can't wait to go back again! But, I promised Hubby that I would at least wait until the Fall. ;)

Who can tell me the zipcode to Hagerstown??? I cannot get mapquest to pull it up without it!! aagh. I have a friend that's in DC. I totally need to pay her and this awesome place a visit!! How long would it take to drive from DC?
Assuming the Ribbon Outlet is still located at 857 Willow Circle in Hagerstown, the ZIP is 21740-6826. It looks like a dangerous, I mean Wonderful, place!

Their address is:
857 Willow Circle
Hagerstown, MD 21740
I live about 30-45 minutes north of DC and it took me an hour to get there. So, I imagine that it would take roughly 1.5 hours from DC (depending on which part she lives in).

lol - it's much more wonderful than dangerous, I promise! Everything there is so cheap that it can only be wonderful!

It is a dangerous/wonderful place! It's about 1 1/2 hours from DC - of course it depends on where in the DC area you would be coming from. I will be stopping by there next month - can hardly wait! There are outlets nearby, Prime Outlets at Hagerstown I believe, and there are a lot of great bargains there too!

This is SO true! I did some damage there, too! lol Hey, it could have been worse! I limited myself to just 1 store! At Anne Taylor, for a mere $170, I was able to get:
Clara, I was just there a couple of months ago, with several of my friends. I think I spent a whooping $17 and I got a ton of stuff!! Bags, and bags of ribbon!! It's sooo much fun!! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm north of DC, in the Sykesville area. We are very lucky to live so close to it! After visiting the ribbon outlet, we went to the Hagerstown outlets, Harry and David, etc...then out to lunch!! Had a great time!!! Karen
Location: In a world full of family, friends and rubber stamps!!

That's one thing I remembered while living in San Diego. There was this huge ribbon store outlet. At that time, I wasnt into it like I am now. If only I knew what it was called. Oh, I thinks its called Bee Bee's ribbon outlet store in Chula Vista. I know about their deals.
Congrats on your findings!

Well, the PA one is NEAR Scranton. I'm not sure of the exact location, I just know it's in the north easternish PA area.
Yeah...the one in Berwick must be the one you are talking about. I'm only about 1/2 hour from there. I was getting excited thinking there might be one on Scranton too because I'm only about 45 minutes from Scranton. The outlet store in Berwick is awesome. Last time I was there I spent just over $100 and I literally had 2 large bags full of ribbon
I'm planning a trip to the Hagerstown store soon. Here's an off the wall question..........do they have shopping carts or just the little baskets that you carry around? Because of some limited physical problems I like to shop with a cart. I hate shopping with those little baskets. Archeiver's doesn't have cats and I have a hard time handling all of my goodies along with my purse. If they had some carts my shopping experience would be more comfortable at Archeivers.

Carole
Hi Carole, I didn't see any carts while I was there - just the hand baskets. Everything is all together in a smallish room so a cart would definitely not fit. However, the ladies there were SUPER nice - I bet they would let you put your purse behind the counter (and the way the store is set up, you would still be able to see it from anywhere in there). I'm sure they would help you in any way they could.

No, they don't have carts, but if you fill a basket and still are shopping, you can give the girls the basket to keep for you and then continue shopping. They have lots of room behind the counters to save things.
Please be aware that their hours have changed. They use to open at 9:00 but as of June 3 they will be opening at 10:00am.
The one in PA is 3 hours from me :( and with the price of gas these days I'm not making the trip just for that!!! Can anyone tell me what else is near there to tempt me?!
I drive by the Hagerstown exit all the time but never have time to stop!!! grrr... I MUST make it happen, I keep hearing wonderful (dangerous) things!!!
You spent $37 there!? I spent $10 and gave away 3/4 of the stuff and I still have a ton and I got the stuff last August! Get there by plane, train, or automobile and it will still be a bargain!
Makes you realize how much of a mark up there is on craft stuff!!!

Yeah! My mom's going this summer! Any advice I can give her? She is soooo not crafty and I'm not sure what to tell her to look for. What types of things do they sell that would be easy for me to tell her to look for. I love ribbon, but I don't what to overwhelm her. Anything there that I wouldn't want? I will probably give her about $20. Is that a good amout to spend. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My sister is the same way. If I lived closer I would have given her a sample of organdy, grosgrain and satin (my three favs). I would write down what colors you are looking for and what size. Also stripe or polka dots, etc. If she takes them to the counter they can make sure she is getting something you might want. I would also tell her to scout out the 35cent box. It really is just a big box and it sits in the far right corner or tell her to ask for it. You can get a ton of ribbon for next to nothing!
You can spend 20.00 easily and still walk away with alot of ribbon. Give her some samples of about 2 inches of what types of ribbon you are looking for stapled on to paper. As far as colors go, give her either a paper with colored pencils/chalks/markers colored on it or a 2 inch square of cardstock on a key ring to keep everything together. This way you are sure to get ribbon that will match or coordinate with what you're looking for. If she gets you the small rolls, I'd get two to make sure you have enough if you scrapbook or make alot of cards. They usually have 6-10 yards on them depending on width.

Yeah - the bulk of the purchase though was a $10 roll (100 yards) of 5/8" white grosgrain and 4 $2.50 spools (25 yards each, I think?) of ric rac in black, tan, artichoke and chocolate. That was $20 right there.
Then I bought a TON of other random spools and $0.35 bags and such for the other $17. I walked out with SO much ribbon. But hey, that was Saturday, today is Friday and I've already used that new ribbon on like 20 cards! I put ribbon on just about all my cards, so I think it all is a good investment! ;)

From what I understand, their stock rotates a lot, so I'm not sure if I can tell you anything specific that you should definitely get. I don't think that there is anything there really to stay away from, it's all in your preferences.
Yeah, like everyone else said, I would give you sister samples of the type of ribbon you like, definitely cardstock swatches as there are SO many different shades of the same color. There were lots of spools that I picked up thinking that it would match some cardstock perfectly, but once I held it to my cardstock ring, it was definitely not the right shade.
Also, I would talk to her about ribbon widths if that that is important you. I mean, like for me, I don't use narrow ribbon. I just can't make it work for me. 1/4" is as narrow as a go, and still don't use much of that. If you have a preference, I would tell her as they have SO many different widths.
I would also tell her if you like mostly solid ribbon or ribbon with prints, if so, what type of prints? They had lots of different printed ribbon - for weddings, babys, Halloween, etc.
I hope that helps!

OM gosh- I am in Northern Virginia- I see a road trip in the works. Thanks so much for the tip. I see that this company has been in business since the 1800's & has made ribbon used by Popes, in the Olympics- they sell to Michaels!!!! Such history as well as good buys!!!!
