You know, I was going to stay out of it, but don't tell me what I intended to do and if you're incited....sounds like a personal problem. A personal attack on a large group of subscribers? So my dislike of the Holiday Mini for reasons stated in the OP is an attack on who. Or are you saying the the demo constituency on SCS has a right to be offended because I say a SU! product sucks. That's why I posted it on SCS.com A Stamper's Forum and not SU!.com a demo forum. It is my opinion and yes, the thread has gotten hot, but I have respected other people's opinions and not presumed to know what they intended. Give me the same. Are you speaking for the large group of subscribers.....as if said group has some VIP status we don't know about. If you can't discuss your opinions about stamping things on a stamping forum then where can you?
Danyelle
You start a thread with an inflammatory title, and then go on, in subsequent posts to insult demos, and then you say you intended to stay out of it? So you only intended to light the fire, but weren't planning to stick around to watch it burn?
I've seen enough posts from you to know you're smarter than that...you knew exactly what you were doing.

So, Daven, by closing a thread that has a few personal arguments going on, you are punishing those who would like to have a civil debate. In a way, that's telling the people who don't like these types of threads that they can go in and post things that will shut all such threads down. Why let a few rotten apples spoil it for those of us are trying to be good?
thanks,
Kathy

Go head on girl you are so right....I dont think that she should have been saying that about anything..You have the right to your opinon but dont be mean about it. And there was no need to bring demos or tupperware into it.

PROFIT HUH??? WHODA THUNK!!!
For real here I am spending it on everything SU! that I love
Just to clarify my comments in the post I left - though I thought the sets in the mini were a bit pricey, I think that when it's not something that is particularly your "taste" people would feel that way - as they weren't ones I was interested in. Otherwise, when it comes down to a set that I really like, the cost of it doesn't really come into play for me. I may not be able to get all the sets I has wanted to at one time due to a price, but if I like it - I'll buy it.
I think there is some confusion in the post as the title of the thread speaking of the mini as a "rip off & joke", but the poll itself had to do with what you thought of the prices in the mini. I just feel that if you don't like a set - any set or that matter - it seems more pricey. But when it comes to seeing something you love it's more of a "I gotta have it" than concerns of the cost.
I also by no means have ever felt that StampinUp have ever had a set that was a "rip-off". First off, they're a business ad like any other business their goal is to make a profit. If they think a parrticular set is going to be a real "money-maker" they'd be nuts not to price it accordingly - not even having to do as much to the number of stamps in a set. I LOVE their products and ind them of high quality and I DO prefer their wood blocks and rubber over most companies.
Thanks to all you Demos that work so hard in selling for StampiUp. You MUST love it to do it as for the most part, so much of what you make is turned around and given right back to use in your sales - especially when the Retireds come up and you then need new sets, new colors CS, pads, etc.
I really think this is a good thread, but even I must admit that I should have elaborated more on my response which is why I am now clarifyng it.
Blessings,
Debbie

yellow or pinkish peach flowers on my chocolate cake?
I vote for pinkish peach (also because it is fun to say out loud). Can I have a piece of cake? I've got some milk. It can be my consolation prize if the thread gets closed and I have nothing else to do at work...
Pass the popcorn! I am still stiting here! I promised myself I would clean early today so I can stamp. AND nothing has been done yet!!!

Girls, I'm smirking at your silliness, but isn't hijacking threads and discussing things completely off topic a no-no? Ok, I know humor is trying to diffuse the heat. :p

Hahaha, that's what I thought, too! If they are making a profit, they should complain to the government, 'cause for many it's probably waaaay below minimum hourly wage regulations!

I don't think it's a rip off or a joke. I buy what I like and think I will use. If a stamp is cheap but I don't use it, it worthless to me. I look for versitality and will normally pay the price. I like SU and will buy some sets from the mini. I am always happiest when I don't love them all. It's easier to choose.

you are right, I'm sorry.
Um... I like stamps, I may order some, they are cool to trim them, that's neat.

Actually, if SU! wanted to make a killing, they'd watch the wildly popular sets on "the bay" and then bring them back out of retirement for a ridiculous price. I'm referring, of course, to Wild Wild West, Dreams & Dragons, and more recently the Chinese writing BG that sold for $70!!!
Seriously, IMO, SU! is NOT out to rip us off. If they jack the prices outrageously high, people will stop buying. Again, as they said earlier this year, this is the first across-the-board price increase they've had in YEARS. They are a business trying to cover costs and make some money at the same time.

LOL, that's too funny but yet sooo true. See Kathy I do have a sense of humor. I didn't mean to offend you or anyone and I apologize if I did. I hope you all have a great day and happy stamping!!!

I think you might be right. But I also think personal attacks and/or bashing a company are also a no no which is what some people thought some of the posts did. But, hey, thanks for getting us back on track to the anger, nastiness, and hating SU and profiteering demos.
When we first start, we all need certain things: cardstock, ink, sentiment stamps, birthday images, flowers (ok, I never stop needing these!), little kid images, masculine images, and whatever else tickles you.
Then we settle in a little bit. We know how to mask. We know how to heat emboss. We know how to use background stamps or cool background techniques. We're in a different phase! We have--dare I say it?--"enough" stamps to do mainly what we want to do!
We're now looking for *specific* images or styles. Our tastes have refined and narrowed. We know what "our style" is. That's a whole different market than the beginning stamper.
That's when we may begin to turn to other companies to meet specific needs. SU is probably never going to have a big enough selection of "funny" stamps for some tastes, because that's not what beginning stampers are looking for in large numbers. So we have Hambo and VLV and . . . . SU will never have enough of the Amuse/Bella style to suit the tastes of some.
SU is a large company that generally has something for most tastes. It's not so much that SU has changed its marketing strategy, as that we as stampers may have changed what we are in the market for.
I really think this is a terrific post, and I think she has hit the nail on the head. I know for a fact that I am a much more experienced stamper now, than I was 8 years ago when I started. My style has also changed dramatically. I used to love layers, and lots of embellishments....but now as I have been playing with my stamps...I have discovered that I love the simple look. It is just me. Plus a lot of the basic stamping stuff I needed then, I now have...so my spending has changed.
Therefore, the new catalog and mini just do nothing for me. But that is OK. I know, and am thankful that I have many sources out there to meet my stamping needs. I also think it is terrific that we all have a different opinion and feel comfortable enough to express them, I think that is really really cool...

Me too - work is boring, this thread is way more fun. Hi Mully!!!!!
could we just use the faces from Loads of Love accessories on Trypstich and call it a day? (I'd say All In the Family - but I doubt any of the SU haters bought that set- it's on my list though!)
as to the OP - Wattup girl? Why you start such a fight? Joke and a Rip off...LOL. You got the guts of a burgaler and you smoked out the rats at the same time! he he.
Anyway....I love the new catty...and LOVE LOVE LOVE diecut stamps. I think the pricing is a little wonky with some sets a great value and others not so much. But as others have said all prices are going up. I went to A Muse last week and got a handful of stamps for a lot of $$$$ a very light package - I think more pricey than SU but I couldn't help myself...they are so darn cute! And I want more A Muse and more SU.....so I better log off and get to work!
WONKY!!! HAHAHAhAhAhAHAHAHA That is too funny I have never heard that but now it is going to be my new phrase. Thanks alot!!

Think we are just stating how much we enjoy the thread and can't pull ourself away from it. Very interesting reading. At least for me it is. Just pulling up a bowl of popcorn, but then again out here in Hawaii it is only 10AM so I guess it is an early lunch for me. And the laudrary is still wating!

hmmm, my hubby should be home from work in about a half hour, should I tell him I am STILL in my jammies from this morning, or should I tell him that I JUST PUT them on in hopes to get to bed early tonight??? lol

A friend of mine told me about a seminar that talks about how to make a good profit as a stamping demo. Rule number one: You only need FIVE sets- TOTAL. You don't need to buy everything from mini catalogs, and you don't stamp for yourself- it's just a business. So if you want to make a great profit- it's got to be a business, I think MOST SU (TAC, CTMH, CM) demos are demos because it's also their hobby.
