Just wondered if anyone would recommend Hobby Lobby as a good source for supplies....stuff that Stampin' Up does not sell?
I have been to a Michaels and AC Moore and really loved looking at them for inspiration.
We are getting a huge Hobby Lobby in a town nearby (about 35minutes) which is the closest place to purchase any craft items and I was wondering if they were a good store.
The one near me is kind of dumpy but they have a great variety of stuff. Usually not the "latest and greatest", but a good variety and good sales and coupons. I haven't found the sales people to be especially knowledgeable, but they generally aren't at Michael's either.
Maybe if you're getting a "new" one it won't be dumpy.
IMO, any craft store is better than no craft store, right? ;)
This Hobby Lobby is huge. Can't wait to get inside. Like you said any craft store is better than no craft store. We do have a JoAnn's but it is small and the customer service is aweful. So keep your fingers crossed for our new Hobby Lobby!
Our Hobby Lobby is HUGE and it's very nice. It's got a good 4 aisles of scrabooking stuff. One of just paper, one in rubber stamps/inks and envelopes, 2 sticker aisles and a 1/2 aisle of albums. Then of course there is the random placements of storage items (which are always handy). I forgot there is another aisle of adhesives, punches and other great things. I have one thing to tell you though. If you go online to hobbylobby.com every week, you can print off the coupon. Usually it's for 40% off any reg. Priced item, but sometimes it's 30% Off other things. There is always scrapbook items on sale and if it's not on sale this week, wait if you can because it's most likely going to be on sale within 2 weeks. It is a neverending sale there...it's great! You'll learn to wait a week because it will be on sale in 4 days. Let me know if you have any questions!
the HL near me is a good one, I used to prefer it hands down over the M store because our M store was old and dirty, you couldn't ever find anyone to help you and the check out line was usually long plus the area was a little scary. They have since relocated to a brand new mall very close to me and the aisles are spacious (and clean!) and I can usually find some help, rarely is there a long wait at checkout.
HOWEVER, I still like Hobby Lobby and they carry a better selection of magazines (stamping related, of course!) plus they have the nice "half price ink pads" sales and half price rubber stamps sometimes. Jan
I love the HL near me - great store for all crafts (DS draws and DD is getting into beading) Plus they have a great selection of holiday decorations, candles, picture frames, etc.
Keep in mind that they're never open on Sundays - it's a corporate policy. Sometimes I get tripped up by that.
*grumble* That has always ticked me off. Them and Chick-Fila. I get one day a week to shop and they are CLOSED!
Anyway, I like our HL. We have several, and some are better than others. Generally speaking, they have a pretty decent selection of everything, their prices tend to be better, and they have coupons every week, as opposed to Mike's which tend to be off and on here.
The only reason I don't like HL is because they don't take Joann's and Michaels coupons, but those stores will take HL coupons. We're getting one closer to me too. I have a variety of stores within 15 minutes of me because I live in a big city, and I still shop there for different things. They are all so close I can play them off of each other for prices.
Unfortunatly we don't have HL in Oregon but we went to Kansas to visit my uncle and they have one. Lets just say I am glad I brought an empty duffle bag to carry all the goodies I found. I was so impressed by it. I can't wait to go back to one, or even better if they open one here!!!!
Although I don't like their rein check policy though. You have to pay up front for what you want.
I understand their reason why, but here's my reason why...I needed garland for my wedding, and they were out. It was on sale that week, and they wanted me to pay ahead for it. Thank goodness I declined, because two months later they still did not have the garland in, and I was already married. It wasn't a special kind of garland. Just one with roses on it.
And just because the doors are closed on Sunday doesn't mean people are not working on the inside- may sound like a corporate policy but many district managers force their people to work... so the store won't look so dumpy.
Hm. Our's all say that HL employees do not work on Sunday so that they may enjoy family and fellowship in their religious practices of choice.
I love HL. Ours just came to town about a year or so ago. I was so excited because I had frequented it when I lived in Indiana. You can sign up to receive their email every Sunday which will tell you what's on sale and what the coupon for the week is.

Yeah that is what our HL policy states that is posted in the store. There are some HL's in the area that are dumpy and I steer clear of them. The nicer stores are great and they do have some nice sales.
That's why I thought it was weird that ours is open....I've seen that sign before at other HLs. I don't know why this one is open. I had to go into town one time for medicine for one of my kids and I saw it open and said out loud......Hey....they aren't supposed to be open!

I really like HL. It is a great all purpose craft store. Which for me is dangerous, cause then i get all kinds of stuff i want to "try" and then ge thome and have a load of weird craft supplies I have no idea what to do with!! lol.
One good thing, if you have a cricut, their cartridge prices are the best of all the stores I have frequented.
Have fun!
Jen

How much do you love Target? That company is the WORST. Hey, I can't complain too much, it pays for my SU! habit! LOL
My teammate's husband, sister, and brother-in-law all work for Target. They love it there. Her DH works at the store and her sister and BIL work at the corp office. It's a job, I guess.
I love Hobby Lobby, it is a Christian run business and closes on Suday so the employees can attend church and spend time with family. I always look there first to support such a family friendly business! They have great sales and I usually buy what's on sale. They are great about donating for non profit events too!
I love Hobby Lobby! Ours is not very old, it is a big store, and has great stuff! I love getting their Cosmo Cricket papers, and Copics.
Even though they do not take competitor's coupons, they do have their coupons on their web site, so in a week that has a coupon you can print as many as you wish! They do ask that you only use one per day per person, but I have four kids! I just give them each a few bucks and we all go through the line! I have noticed that when it gets close to Christmas, there is a coupon nearly every week. Their sales are great! If you have even a little patience, the item you want will probably be on sale soon, if you can't get a coupon! Ours is closed on Sundays, which is hard since that is when their sales ad comes out in the paper!
I will promote Hobby Lobby 100%. I had a job decorating a motel lobby and breakfast area and made a huge purchase from them. It was so huge that I did not realize they made a $200.00 mistake on my charges until after I did my decorating job. I figured it as soon as I tried to get reimbursed and called the store where I made the purchases and was treated like an idiot - was told to undecorate - bag everything up and bring it back in if I wanted a credit for their mistake. I called corporate office, faxed them the ticket, and they took care of it immediately and had no problem figuring out their overcharge. I loved the prompt help from corporate office even though the local store sucked - so I will still remain a loyal customer.
Thanks for your in put. Now all I have to do is wait. It is suppose to be open in the next couple of weeks. I have a cricut and hope to be able to get a couple of new cartridges in the future. In addition to Stamping I also have a One Stroke Painting passion. Actually I really love all types of crafts so this store sounds like it will fit the bill!!!
Thought I would chime in too to state my love for Hobby Lobby!!
I enjoy HL much better than our local Micheals...Maybe it is because ours is extremely packed in and you can't move around..Seems dumpy.
I love HL because it seems to never fail when I go in there that they have eyelets, brads and ribbon on sale for 50%. I also purchase the lunch box tins there for 3.99. I just bought 8 for a Christmas craft show coming up. HL has a great selection of craft items. I've bought several things for my classroom there too. Both for the kids and myself to decorate our kdg room.
Enjoy you HL in West Virginia

And...that's why I love Hobby Lobby. Plus, ours in Chattanooga is pretty big, we actually have 2 stores and both are clean. They may not take other stores coupons, but you can print HL's online. Sometimes the coupon has nothing to do with scrapbooking or stamping, such as this week's coupon.
Our AC Moore's store is closing, which really doesn't matter to me. It blows my mind that the store is already picked over and things are just 25% off. I just don't get it. Why not use a M or HL coupon and get the same (or very similiar) product for 40 - 50% off? Hmmm...must be be the advertisement that the store is closing that draws the people in?

Hey!! I will be in Chattanooga soon!! I'm moving back up there in the next month or 2!! I can't believe AC Moore is closing....it hasn't been open there but about 2-3 years!! It wasn't the greatest store though. I prefered HL and Michaels.

Is this the store opening in Beckley? I'm in Charleston, and was excitedly telling my husband that a HL is opening in WV. He was excited too, since it will only be an hour away unlike the others he has to take me to in Columbus or other parts of Ohio. I love their 50% sales on inks and stamps.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but you can also sign up on their home page (www.hobbylobby.com) for a weekly email with their specials for that week. It often contains a coupon that you can print for 40% off of one item. The Hobby Lobby stores that I've been to in the DFW area are great!
I love Hobby Lobby! I shop there at least once a week. They have 40% coupons that come out every other week that you can get online and usually a bunch of stuff is 50% off each week. Last week all their paper was 50% off including the DCWV stacks, Basic Grey, Chatterbox, etc. This week all their adhesives are 30% off which means I can get my Hermafix dotto refills for only $3.50. Love that place!!!
