hi all. i am considering becoming what i guess is referred to as a "hobby demo." i do not want to do parties (at least not right now), but i am interested in the demo perks. what exactly do you have to do to maintain being a demo? are there certain sales quotas each month? quarterly? what if i find i cannot make my numbers due to a change in my life for example, can i ever be a demo again? for other "hobby demos"" - is it worth it? are you happy with your choice? thanks!!!

To be a SU demo- you are required to have $300 quarterly sales.
Yes, you are allowed to sign up again if for some reason you decide to end your demonstratorship
Requirements for hobby demo are the same for all demos. $300.00 in sales each quarter, that retail. You get a 20% discount plus hostess benefits if your order is over $150.00. If you don't make you quota, you go into pending for a month before you are dropped. Once dropped you can resign anytime with the same upline or wait six months for a new one but you just have to buy the demo kit again. I've been basically a hobby demo for six months now and love it. I can switch gears anytime and be a business demo if I would like. HTH
Ditto the above -- and one of my favorite perks is the opportunity to preorder (selected items from the big catalog, generally anything from the minis)...it's especially good for business demos, I guess, but I love it as a hobby demo b/c it's like Christmas coming early. I've been a hobby demo for almost a year and a half and haven't had any trouble meeting the $300 minimum myself (I'm sick that way), but you could always sell to stamping friends, even without doing shows or classes.
thanks all for your input! now, what would happen to my demo? i don't want to take away from her - does she get anything if i sign up under her? thanks!

Yes, she will get paid a percentage of your sales depending on her own sales for the month.
Make sure you sign up for something you LOVE and actually like. Don't sign up for a company just because they have a lower sales requirement. Sign up because you actually like to use the product.
I signed up as a hobby demo about 7 months ago. I figured I was spending about $100 per month on crafting items already. Why not order from the comfort of my home, save gas money (to buy more stamps ;)) and get a discount to boot. Plus all the perks listed already. It's really great! I also love being a part of a wonderful company. You should sign up. You really have nothing to lose!

I know the direct question here has been answered, but I also wanted to point out that if you cannot make your minimum, there is no penalty - you just go into pending the following month, then drop. PLUS when you first sign up (let's say Oct1) you have until the END of your first FULL quarter to sign up! So if you signed up Oct 1, you would have until March 31 to make your first $300 minimum! So you are GUARANTEED to be a demo THROUGH then!

I called SU about the October 1 thing. She said if you join on 10/1 then you would have until the end of December but if you wait until like the 3/4/5th somewhere in that area then you would have until March 31.
You may want to call again. I just called and spoke with DS (I have a new recruit who's about to sign up and I wanted to make sure they hadn't changed anything and I missed it!) The lady I talked to said she MAY have talked to you earlier (did you call just before posting?) She's new and was confused on the policy - she said if it was her, she apologizes! But she did clarify (and confirmed with her manager) that if you sign up on October 1, you have until March 31. The quarters run as follows:
- Jan 1-Mar 31
- Apr 1-Jun 30
- Jul 1-Sept 30
- Oct 1-Dec 31
You have until the END of your first FULL quarter to sign up. So, again, if you sign up Oct 1, you have until March 31 to make your first minimum.
Remember that all the preorders have an additional discount all this year.. the stamp sets in the preorders do.. another great perk for being a demo.. plus the monthly magazines.. love em'!

Well I for one have seen both catalogs and I really like the TAC catalog just beautiful; also I am on a very limited budget and the 300.00 a quarter would be way to much, but I could swing the 100.00 quarterly. My suggestion to the OP would to be to get each of the catalogs; look them over see which ones you like then make your choice. Don't let anyone tell you that their stuff is better than some one else. You decide for your self. I DO NOT SELL any product of any kind, but I think you need to make up your own mind about which product you like you may prefer the SU over TAC and that's just fine as long as it's what you want.
I've been a SU hobby demo for about 3-4 years now and enjoy it. When I first signed up, I was my own best customer and stocked up on every basic...card stock, ink, tools, reinkers. Now I sell to stamping friends at my cost and it works out great for them and for me. ;)
