I'm sorry I can't help, because I have unmounted everything BUT my background stamps. I commend you on your bravery, though! I hope somebody knows what to do and shares it with you! I may consider unmounting mine if somebody shares. They are taking up an entire shelf in my space, and I could use that space.
You could also put it in hot water to soften the glue. For my subborn stamps I used Goo Gone. I first scraped/cut as much of the foam off that I could so that it was almost down to the bare rubber. Then, I put the goo gone on it and let it soak on the stamp for a few minutes and then scraped the gunk off. Someone on here commented that it caused their stamps to curl up. I've been lucky and didn't have anything happen to my stamps and I've unmounted about 600 rubber stamps in the last two months. If you use goo gone, make sure to wash the stamp off with soapy water to get the oily residue off from the goo gone.
Thanks. I'll try that. I unmounted all of my SU sets (about 300) and never had a problem either. It's these darn backgrounds!

Hi I have unmounted all of my stamps including background and always used the freezer not the microwave. Place stamp in freezer for 10mins and it should come off easily. Also a little hint that works great for me - I use my background stamps attached to a cuttlebug acrylic/plastic clear sheet - I found the acrylic block too heavy and hard to stamp with. This works like a charm. Hope this helps Good luck.
The few BG stamps that still were sticky,I just pulled the lable off the block and put that on. The BG stamps I always ink and then place my paper on so I don't have a need for a block, so it didn't matter what shape the back was in and I am putting all my BGs in the same case. With my CB I did get rid of MANY BG stamps.
