Default Help me with pricing to sell

Hi! On quick spec, what could I reasonably expect this type of card to sell for? Thanks.

how big is it?

I'd venture a guess at around 3.00 for A-2 sized.

I like your card! Yes, I agree that 3.00 is good, and include an envelope of course. That is what I charge for my cards, similar in layers and so on.

Some of it depends on your local market as well. I remember an old thread where selling cards was discussed a few years ago. Most people thought $3.00-$3.50 was the most they could expect to get but some ladies said they were getting $4.50-$5.00. And the cards did not have many layers or a ton of embellishments.

Good luck! I have not been brave enough to try and sell my cards.

That is a gorgeous card! What do you think you would pay in a Hallmark store for a card like that? Probably near $5-6. If people don't make cards themselves and want something of quality, they would have to go to the store and buy a Hallmark card at those prices, so I'm not sure why crafters should under charge for their beautiful handmade creations.

Etsy.com has some excellent free online workshops on pricing handmade items, and I highly recommend them.

Thank you ladies, Muscrat (Kathy), cardmaker 2, cobby (Mary) and poppydarling! I appreciate the feedback. Cardmaker2 you can probably attest that cards are more expensive, like everything else, in Canada. I just agreed to sell some of my cards through consignment which I think will work well for me at this time since I'm still working full time. I'm only about three yrs from retirement (yay me!) when I will likely make cards full time. I read an article (blog) online and the woman that wrote the article indicated that most crafters are women and we are known to think no one will 'pay that much for what I made'. That leads to women not getting what we should be paid for the objects we make and therefore the market gets to pay less. I thought that was an interesting concept. When I took my cards to the consigner, she asked me what I wanted for them. I had two groups: one group I asked $6 for each card based on materials (estimated) and time it took me to make, and the other group I asked $8 for each card. She bought some outright, avoided the $8 grouping (which the card I asked you all about was part of), and gave me a HUGE order for some of the $6 ones. She indicated she will be charging $10 for each card when she sells. That seems about right for the area we are in. I also looked at papyrus cards in this area and they are hugely expensive. I have to tell you, I'm thrilled because she bought ANY of them, gave me my asking price for the ones she wanted and gave me an order to boot. So I guess I'm going to be busy. I very much appreciate the feedback ladies and the praise, thank you!

I did a quick estimate of the costs to make a set of cards (similar to yours) and paid myself $20/hr. My cost per card ended up being $5. To me, it sounds right to charge $10 per card. (As a crafty, I doubt we would ever pay that much for something we could easily make.)

Shelly, love your card, and I looked at some other cards on your blog. You are a very talented lady for sure! Glad you found a place to pay what your cards are worth.

I love the bows on your cards. May I ask the name of the bow die you use, please?

Thanks Mary! Bugga, the bow is the Bow Builder from stampin up. I thought it was going to be too big when it arrived but as it turns out, I use it a lot. It's works well with stampin up card stock, dsp, and vellum too. Very versatile. It's definitely worth the investment! And thank you for the compliments!

Wow, 10$ a card! I'm sure that wouldn't fly around here. When I charge 3.00 I am not taking into account my time.. I would be making them anyway, because I love to do it and selling any is something I consider a bonus.

I could probably charge a bit more and people would buy them but honestly I feel fine with what I have settled on. If I made larger cards I would charge more simply because it would take more cardstock. A2 is perfect for best use of paper IMO.

I sell cards in my Etsy shop and in the past at a local boutique and for most cards charge $2.75-$3.00 unless they are heavy embellished.

Funny this came up. I was just looking on Ebay and got pretty depressed...so many are selling for a dollar each (or less in batches).

Papayrus is infamous for expensive cards. I have gotten one here and there-to CASE!

I think I have mentioned how I resent going in stationary stores and see cards labeled HM that certainly are NOT. They may be hand assembled but they are definitely mass produced, machines parts/elements...and they get 10 a piece. Argh!! This is in NYC where of course everything costs more.

My LSS pays 3 and sells for 6.95 so you getting 6 to me is great! I would be thrilled to get that, esp in those terms. Easiest! One person to deal with only.

I would gladly pay $3 for that beautiful card. If I didn't have thousands of dollars worth of card making supplies I'd pay a lot more for it, probably $5 or $6. ;)

I was in a Hallmark store the other day (we no longer have one where I live and I picked up the crayola crayons ornament) anyways... a 5X7 ( A-7 ) sized one layer CAS card with a metal looking ( was really light weight may have been painted plastic) typewriter with one line of text under it. was selling for $7.00

not kidding.

I know! Isn't it ridiculous! I think Hallmark is geared to the men They--my DH is the poster child for this theory-- will pay whatever for what they want. They don't even think about it.
