I'm trying to put together my starter kit. I am keeping some of the stamp sets, but I would like to exchange out some others for equal or lesser value. Here is what I have so far:
1. Heartfelt Thanks-- definitely keeping
2. Greetings Galore--not sure (is there a better all occasion set)-$28.95
3. Loads of Love--$19.95-would like to trade this one for something else
4. Shape ups--11.95--Trading this for Itty Bitty Backgrounds, I think
5. Quick thinking--12.95--May trade this for Birthday Best??
6. Much Appreciated--12.95--Maybe Festive Four??
So I need help deciding on just about all of them. I would like suggestions, but it has to be the same or lesser price for each set.
I would say definitely go with Birthday Best and Itty Bitty Backgrounds. I have had both of those sets practically since I started stamping, and I love them both. Birthday Best is a fun, versatile birthday set, and IBB is the perfect addition to just about any card. That's my 2 cents
I too signed up this week, I think it was harder trying to decide what to put into the starter kit than deciding to become a demo. I have been in a stampin club for going on 18 months before deciding to become a demo. So alot of the sets I already own. So good luck, it took me about 3 hours trying to decide. You keep coming up with the better one each time you go thru the catalog. I had no alphabets because I do Calligraphy, and its just as easy to pull out the pen vs lining up all the letters. So I picked a couple of the alphabet sets.
Good Luck....
Debbie

I also signed up last week, this is what I'm getting
Heartfelt thanks
Greetings galore (thought this would be good for demoing, (can use the chalkes to color) plus it's almost as if you get twice as many stamps if you mount the words separately)
Natural beauty (ifor of loads of love)
Petite patters (for shape ups)
Quick thinking
Festive four (for much appreciated)
As my free set I requested everyday flexible phrases ( but I think you have to sign up during sell-a-bration in order to get the extra free set)

Those two sets are really nice! I probably would have decited to get those if I didn't already have them.

1. I would definitely keep Heartfelt Thanks too!
2. Bold Butterfly (get the wheel and you can promo for March)
3. Sincere Salutations (love this set - I use it ALL the time)
4. Good choice on Itty Bitty Backgrounds.
5. Hmmm...Birthday best is good; you could also try Let's Party (birthday) or Spring Fling (Easter).
6. Simple Somethings is very versatile - LOVE it.
Don't forget to write in your free any price stamp set at the top of your Demo Kit form if you get your paperwork in during Sell-A-Bration (must be in the SU! office by 2/28 to get it). I chose Everyday Flexible Phrases when I signed up last year and have used it a TON - I usually leave it out at my Stamp Camps so my customers can personalize their projects with the word of their choice. I also love and own the Letterpress and Headline Alphabets and have sold them as well. You can't go wrong with any of those three!
HTH,
Barb

I just wanted to thank you all for your great suggestions. I'm still mulling it over. I'm also now struggling with choosing my inks and paper. I like some of the colors from each family, so it is hard to choose just one group of papers. I know that eventually I will add many more, but I just want to have a good start work with initially. This is mainly just for personal use at this point.
Is there a reason why no one suggested All Year Cheer? I think this one is a nice addition because it has Mother's day and Father's day and the party stamp. I also like Little Layers Plus for the graduation stamp and because I think it is cute.
I think I will post a separate thread about the inkpad/paper dilemma.

I like the All Year cheer sayings, but some of the stamps are just too large (that is my opinion anyway) I wish they would redo the sets, with the same words but just a little smaller.
The demonstrator I order from has Love without End. It seems versatile. She used the flower shape to make a gingerbread man. The curly leaf stem can be used as a background stamp with other sets.
She also has A Tree for All Seasons which can be used for all seasons, of course.
I own All Year Cheer II and In agree that some of the sayings are too large (or small). I would suggest Sincere Salutations ( for the variety) or Wonderful Words (which look great along the bottom of a card).
I just signed up and I got:
Bold Butterfly
Sincere Salutations
Heartfelt Thanks
Quick Thinking
Birthday Best
Trick-or-Treat
Have fun choosing! It took me a while (2 weeks)

I agree. I use BD Best all the time and have recently rediscovered my IBB. Now, I actually like Greetings Galore. I kept it somewhat reluctantly and, frankly, don't use it all that much but I do like it anyway. Glad I have it. And, Loads of Love is really growing on me. I recently ordered the Accessories as well.
I really like the idea of Birthday Best--you can never make too many birthday cards--everyone has one!
I got all year cheer I or II in my kit (not sure which one it was) and I liked having those greetings also.
I love year round fun ii. I know they are tiny but you can do so much with them. It really depends on your style. you want something versatile that fits your tastes.
If you pick a set of the same size images that was in the suggested kit it will be easy to substitute your new selection with the ideas that come in the already prepared workshop templates for new demos. If you've been stamping for a long time you don't need to consider that as much because you'll be able to come up with your own ideas easily.
I actually woudn't trade Loads of Love, it's a super versatile set and easy to demonstrate! I didn't like it at first, but as a demo, I can tell you it's my "go to " set when I've run out of creativity. Also unless you plan on buying sets for all the holidays....buy the accessories and you are good to go for a LOT of the holidays......
Also look at Greeting for All Reasons...it's versatile too! Good luck!

I just figured which stamp sets I am ordering.
Heartfelt Thanks
Feathered Friends in place of Greetings Galore ( Lots of versatility)
Loads Of Love (I can't help it, I love this set!)
Burst Into Bloom in place of Shape-Ups
Festive four in place of QuickThinking
Simple Wishes in place of Much Appreciated
My book is so broken in now that it took me 3 days to figure the stamp sets alone!
