Default HELP!!!! - candle stamping

Hi everyone,

I was trying to stamp a candle as a christmas gift. I've stamped candles before and thought it would be easy but I was using a red candle this time and I was stamping red berries - which did not show up once I heated the tissue paper onto the candle. Should I just use a white or light colored candle? I just thought that stamping on a red candle would be more christmasy. Anybody have any hints when it comes to stamping on darker colored candles?

Thanks,
Christine

I have never tried it but what about using tissue paper that matches the candle? I did try white on a dark blue candle and it just didn't look good since the white paper discolored the candle. Good luck!

I've never tried a red candle Christine, but that is a good question. Is it a dark red? Maybe you can find a lighter red and then use a darker red ink for berries, etc.... I dont know how good the inks will show up on colored candles, but they do show up great on the lighter candles. A white candle with holly and berries would be beautiful! Good luck. Somebody is going to be happy with that gift!!!

I stamped on a bright orange candle for my Thanksgiving table and also a crimson red candle recently. I found that I basically needed to choose lined images that I could just stamp in black and let the tissue disappear into the candle. I was thinking today that I could perhaps emboss in gold on tissue paper and then melt that into a candle. I'll see what happens and post the results if I like it.

I was thinking about white craft ink on red tissue. Perhaps a white Christmas tree or wreath. Hopefully the red tissue would go into the wax and the white ink would show.

I always thought you had to use wax paper. does both work? I do know whatever color candle you use you need your paper to match as close as possible to the candle.

I did an experiment and used white tissue paper and white ink on a green candle and it came out fine. The paper shows only if you hold it in the light just right.

I stamped white snowflakes on a red candle, using white craft ink and white embossing powder on red tissue paper & heating first, then used the wax paper to hold the tissue in place while I heated the design into the candle. Mostly worked fine, except one snowflake where I didn't get enough ink. Don't know about the red berries, though.

I stamped holly with green and colored in the red berries (on white tissue) then put on a white candle and it turned out gorgeous!

Sorry I don't have any clue on the red berries on a red candle.

I'd definately go with white ink on red. I just stamped two different candles, one was orange and purple (weird colors but they were holiday scents) and a red candle. The orange and purple turned out fantastic but the black didn't show on the red at all. You really have to look to see it. If black didn't show up, I can't see how red on red would. I'd do white ink next time.

I have used acrylic paint mixed w/ soap and candle medium (you can get both of these at Michaels). Lighter colors of paint will turn out on darker candles and you can still burn the candle. It works great. I have used terrific tulips and the Pine Tree from Lovely as a tree. I don't know how well on outline image would work. If you had say a green wreath or pine bough(sp?) and stamped red berries on top using the red candle, it should stand out beautifully.

Good Luck,
Tanya
