I just tried a cracked glass card this weekend and for me it was a 5. The story is included in my little ol gallery that also began this past weekend. I didn't give a 5 simply because it seems to be easy for others.
I think it depends upon a person's experience and the tools they have. Being a beginner myself, I don't have a lot of cutting tools like the layer thingy and coluzle so I have to measure with a ruler or eyeball things. So a 1 becomes a 2 for me if I'm doing any layers.
I stopped filling that part out on my cards simply because how hard it is depends on who's doing the card. I would rate my cards mostly as 1-2, sometimes a 3 if it's really finicky. For others those same cards might be 3-4, sometimes a 5. If I ever saw a card that was listed as a 5 for difficulty, I would just assume that it was a very hard/finicky card for that person. Doesn't necessarily mean it'll be that hard for me, KWIM?
Yes - On July 28, 2006, I posted one that I admitted was "OK, it's a five".
It was embossed with custom mixed powders, resist, painted, punched and layered ... Here is my version of a five - Frog on a Frond... picture is not sharp and it is an ATC - so of course, it is gone...
Also , I think anything with polymer clay gets an automatic five, and anything that requires two days to dry. (LOL!)
Plus I have seen some projects that were rated a 5 because of the time involved. krabearkub did this beautiful wedding frame and rated it a 5 because of all the elements involved:

I did the same thing, I don't put a difficulty level anymore since I have tried some that say they are a 1 or 2 and they were a 5 to me and the same can be true for anyone trying anyone elses techniques.
I have rated some things higher than a five (like a 12) simply because sometimes I'm an idiot and mess things up so badly that I have to start over and over and over... KWIM? I think there's one in my gallery that said something along the lines of "should've been a 2, was a 12".

Yeah I find it hard to rate my cards, cause when I am done I figure gee if I did anyone can! I also stopped picking a difficulty rating.
I also have trouble with the rate your pain on a 1-10 scale. First I find it hard to rate, cause I figure hey it could get worse. And I seem to have some what of a high pain tolerance. For instance I had a few badly herniated disc in my back a couple of years ago, I went to the doctor to find out what was going on, it was bad enough pain to finally get me to go to the doctors Ibuprobin wasnt' doing anything for it, but I told them it was a 4 or 5, they sent me for an MRI to see what was going on, in a weeks time it got so bad I couldn't walk, by the time they called me with the results, I couldn't sleep because of the pain, even vicodin wasn't touching it, so at that point I was like 10 , heck I am like a 20 now!
So now I tell them I am no good with the numbers, and just tell them it is bad enough I am here, just had to go in for the old back again recently, after a couple of days of not being able to stand up straight and ibuprobin not touching the pain, I knew I was in trouble, luckily this time the doctor said it seemed to be arthritus acting up in the area of the surgery, muscle relaxers and I am much better. I am only 32, arthritus, guess I am going to do old age early and get it out of the way!
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but that is just another example of how I am no good at rating.
I thought you could do a "sort" in the gallery by rating???? Is there a say to do that with the advanced search feature? You might wanna check that out . . .

I've been experimenting, and it looks like "rating" might be something different than "level of difficulty". And I've tried searching fields for "5", but that doesn't work - looks like field for difficulty is not a search field?
Whoever figures this out, please post how. I would love to look at all the "fives" in a group.
How funny, I was just cruising through the gallery today when I stumbled upon one and thought to myself...that's the first time I've seen a 5! Here is Wasatch Wizard's gorgeous creation...Forums at Splitcoaststampers

I stopped rating mine a long time ago. My thinking is if I give it a 2 or 3 that someone may not try it thnking it is too hard. My stuff is never hard, just time consuming or messy so it is really hard for me to put a number on it.

I've only been stamping for a couple years......but I have been drawing, painting and all around crafting forever.

I have never even thought to give a difficulty level, because I don't know what it is based on. I have projects like name frames, etc. that took 14 hours, but it wasn't hard to do - just time consuming. I think that is a different animal. To me, tying a ribbon is the hardest part of most of my cards, anyway!!!!! I have been known to spend a solid hour on adding the ribbon/tag. LOL
Well, I certainly don't INTEND to spend so much time on ribbons/tags. It's just that we have clashing personalities or something. We just fight all the time!!
If it goes on quickly, I just say a quick "thank you" and move on before it goes all goofy on me!
I stopped rating the difficulty of my designs because it's such a subjective thing....my 5 might be someone else's 2 or vice vesa. That said, there's a card in my gallery that would be considered a 5 by just about anyone. I've only done two similar ones since. One was a beer stein and the other (also in my gallery) is two stemmed champagne glasses.
Here it is: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Fun thread! I don't dare look at the 5's if it did I'd sell all my stuff and never stamp again. :( lol! I can look at 1-3's and still be "ok" and tell myself "I can LEARN to do that!" You know that self talk stuff sinks in eventually! right?? Yup, some VERY talented art-e-e-e-sts here on SCS! You Go Girls!
