I'm not sure if I posting to the right board. But, I need help with making a card for an employee who is leaving the company. On the front of the card, should I put "Good Bye", "Farewell", "Good Luck", or "Don't let the door hit you on the way out"? Just joking, what is customery and does anybody have any ideas on the design.
If they're moving to another job then I'd personally make them a good luck in your new job card .... however, if they've been given the heave-ho and they haven't got a job to go to then I'd send a Farewell card.
Tina.......All your post says is that the person is "leaving the company". Not knowing anything specific as to why, I would just put........Best Wishes. That covers whatever the situation may be. No matter what the situation for leaving, I would not make a joke out of it.
The only similar card I've ever done was for our pastor (*sniff, sniff*) and he wouldn't hear of anything related to his leaving as "goodbye." So it was a "thank you" and also someone we keep in touch with. I'd consider this:
congratulations if it's a desired job change and a good one,
best wishes if you don't really know,
and not "goodbye" if it's someone you'll still be in touch with,
and funny ONLY if you know the person REALLY well.
I really really like "Farewell" ~ it's classic and it's thought of as good-bye but literally is wishing someone well :^). Gets my vote!
I received a farewell card once... I quit a job abruptly and most of the people there wished they could join me ... it said "SOLIDARITY" on the front and was signed by all of my coworkers ~ more than 20 years ago and I still have it!
Thanks for all your help and ideas. You've pointed me in the right direction. Creating a card for a lady is easy, but doing one for a man is always tough for me. Too, wasn't sure about the sentiment on the front of the card.
How about a simple "For You" sentiment and all of the personal wishes can go inside the card..maybe with everyone adding their own message. Some can get mushy and some can remain unmushed.
