Default gift question

Okay, so we don't generally do birthday parties for our kids until they're old enough to ask for it themselves. Well, my 3 and 4 year olds went over our heads and ask their grandparents to have them one. They agreed.

I offered to pay, she said no. I offered to help pay, she said no. Finally convinced her to let us buy the pizza, at least. She's invited over 30 people. Felt we needed to do something.

I'd like to make her a quick gift set, as a thank you, any ideas of what I could throw in there? I'm thinking a card set, a journal, a pen, and bookmark. Anything else?

Thanks, y'all

(Oh, last minute, need to do it tonight, LOL)

She already has a perpetual calendar like that, so she wouldn't need another one, but that's a good idea to keep in mind for my MIL.

As for 30 people, granted, only nine of them are children, and 3 of those are mine, but I just don't know about that many people myself, but if its what makes her happy, that's her prerogative :-) besides, who's to say that years from now when I'm a grandmother, I won't do the same thing, :-)

I'm confused...is it a religious thing as to why you don't have b/day parties?

No, we're fine with the parties, we just wait until they're old enough to ask for them, and our oldest, a nine year old boy, doesn't really care for crowds, so he usually opts for having a friend or two over for a bonfire or some other "guy" thing, so we don't really have Parties for him, and the little guys haven't ever asked for one, even though they've only been to a million, LOL, so they've never had one, we just always go out to eat (their choice) on their birthday and that's enough for them, but I've been told boys are like that, girls are the party kids, I don't know. I never was much for parties, either. :-)

But no, we just wait until they ask for them. I'm just not one of those "go all out b/c it's their birthday" type mamas. We do have immediate family who will not attend anything where there is more that just them and our household family for religious reasons, but no, we're not against them, just wait for them to ask, and they happened to ask my parents instead of us.

So who are the gifts for? something for the grandparents for doing what they want to do? I think--as a step-grandparent--a simple thank you and the joy on the face of the kids who asked is enough.

Does she drink coffee or tea? You could also add in a nice big mug, with an assorted box of teas, or a designer bag of coffee too. With the cooler weather heading in this time of yr, she may enjoy that, with even a nice book of something you know she would be interested in. Does she read? Just trying to throw out some ideas. Why don't you make a little brag book for them, they obviously love their grandchildren. I am going to try to make one of the clear envelope brag books this weekend.

I love the brag book idea. The children could write on some of the pages too. Grandmas and Grandpas always love things like that.

Maybe the kids could write something special to Grandmother and Grandfather, my mom still has a note that my youngest wrote that spells out Grandparents on the left-hand side, in fact she put it in a frame and this is from probably 15 years ago!
