Never mind, don't know how to add a link. I'll just type it for you:

The story of Rainbow Bridge:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyeous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. This poem was given to me when I lost my girl. It helped me tremendously!

Default Lots of gifts at the.....

..... Animal Rescue Site store. You could send your sisters paw print jewelry, or T-shirts, or fleece vests, or slippers or almost anything imaginable can be purchased with the Paw Print design or with dog or cat themes. And for each item purchased, a portion of your cost is donated to an Animal Rescue Shelter.

P.S. This site is connected also to "The Hunger Site", "The Breast Cancer Site" and others where you can click a button each day and a corporation will make a small donation for each click.

I have a demo friend that just lost her beloved cat and was having a really hard time with it. I provided a 6X6 scrapbook and asked a bunch of her demo friends to do a single page or 2 page kitty page to put in the book for a memory book. I also printed up the Rainbow Bridge poem and put it in the inside cover. We didn't fill it completely, but it was enough to start a nice book for her and let her know we cared.

ohhhhhh just a thought - how about a good book /novel? I'm sure someone here will have a good suggestion!

Here'a link to another site I found with a google search:

http://www.findgift.com/Express-Your...nce/for-a-Pet/

or how about a wind chime to hang outside their window - every time they hear a chime they could think of their dog.

Default memory box

First, I have never heard the poem before...that is awesome and powerful. I'm glad that you are going to include that. I have lost many pets in my life. When I was younger, I would make a memory box. Usually it was a shoe box that I decorated on the outside with whatever crude art supplies that I had. Important things went inside...collar, favorite toy, pictures, etc. You could decorate a photo box, or a paper mache box. Better yet, maybe you could just put a "kit" together for them. Send along a typed version of the poem, or maybe attach it to the lid. Send them accents to decorate it with-die cuts, paper, stickers, whatever. It was always very therapeutic for me (even at a very young age when I didn't know the word "therapeutic") to create this special memory box. I always wrote a letter to my special friend, too. You can personalize your memories in a small scrapbook, and add that to the box as well. Just an idea, and I am very sorry for your loss. I will be thinking of you and your family. Missy

Here's a card I did for my boss who lost her dog to a dog fight. It was very tragic. "doggie heaven" Very simple to do w/"paw tracks" wheel and cloud stencil.

I'm so sorry for your loss! When I was in college, we had to have our dog, Molly, put down. She was 10 and was ill but the vet couldn't figure out what was wrong (later found out it was cancer in her neck). A couple of weeks later, we received a letter from the K-State veterinary schoool informing us that our vet had made a contribution in memory of our dog. It meant so much to us that that contribution was going to help tomorow's vets and to bettering animal care.

Also, I think the paw charms are a cute idea since they are teenage girls. When a friend of mine lost her dog a couple of years ago, I gave her a beautiful perennial flower bush to plant in memory of her dog. HTH!

Aubrey,
I'm sorry about the loss of your doggie.
She is in heaven with my dear cat Stormy. They are playing together and waiting until we both arrive.
HUGS!

I'm not sure a sympathy gift per se is a good idea. As an animal lover, I definitely would not want a gift at the loss of a beloved companion. That having been said; if you do send something I'd recommend either the Rainbow Bridge (I can never read that poem during a recentloss, but it does help later) or a simple plant. IMO a special, loving card acknowledging the loss and offering love and support would be most appropriate!

Last June when we lost our 21 yr old pet, we sent in a monetary donation in his name to the local SPCA. They sent us a certificate in memory of.
p.s. You may have to check out their local SPCA, maybe it was just a local thing for us.
