hi there! i've decided to take the plunge and purge my shelves of retired paper and inks. i went through everything but suddenly i couldn't part with it all! are you like me? i mean, for me it was easy to say good-bye to yo-yo yellow and orchid opulence but i just could NOT part with purely pomegranate or brocade blue! what about you? what colors will you hang onto until every scrap of paper is gone, the re-inker is empty, and the pad has shriveled up and died?

I have been trying to use up some of the retiring colors recently . . . mostly colors that I never liked to begin with, cameo coral, etc. (I'm hoarding the retiring colors that I do like.) In doing this, I've discovered that I've really under-appreciated Brocade Blue these last 5 years since I started stamping. How did I miss that this was such a great color?

I will love and use every sheet of every cardstock I have until it is all gone... the same with the inks.. then I will sniff.
I love having tons of color choices and have stocked up on all retiring and in-colors.

Close to Cocoa is the one I will miss the most. The 6 packs I bought recently will hopefully last me a while. I also have two of the ink pads and two refills.
I had a stack of about 10 colors to save and now it is down to one -- Summer Sun as it is one of the colors of our HS so I need it for scrapbooks. Everything else goes. I will miss about eight of colors but they are out of here. I'm saving all my craft inks, love them too much to get rid of even one.

So for those of you who get rid of retiring colors....What do you do with them.....donate them? It never occurred to me to purge retiring colors......don't know if I could. Now if DH would to offer to buy me all of the new colors if I gave away the old...... except barely banana, it's my weakness.

This is exactly what's happened to me with Almost Amethyst! I rarely used that color, and now all of a sudden I'm finding all these good combinations for it! I'm down to just five sheets.:(
Really, I'm sad to see almost all of them go, except for Gable Green, Summer Sun, Pixie Pink, and Cameo Coral. Those were colors I just had a very difficult time using.
It's always sad to say goodbye, but I'm really excited about the new colors coming.

I have to admit that I kept all the In Colors that didn't come back. I can't get rid of them!
I have to admit that I got rid of most of the retiring core colors...except Handsome Hunter, Almost Amethyst, Pale Plum, Barely Banana, Apricot Appeal, and Taken with Teal.
I'm going to see what I do with the colors that I think I can't do without. If I don't use them, then I will be over my sadness at their retirement. I did find that Gina K has a match for Hunter.
I am very much going to miss mellow moss. I had club this month, and having a workshop wed that i scheduled because of the retiring colors, and am so sad, I didn't load up last month, went to club and my demo said they are all gone :(( very sad
I pulled mine all out when I first found out. Some I was so happy to see them going! I was going to sell it all, but I've just about decided to keep them all. My daughter can use the 'icky' colors, and I'll have the others as backup. Trouble is, I'm not sure I have ROOM to keep it all AND buy the new stuff!
I've never gotten rid of any of the in colors either. I never bought full sized pads after the first year, but I have several ink spots and reinkers.
My favorite retiring color I never used on a card, but I used in scrapbooks quite often. Brilliant blue. I don't get how some people say it's a weird color. I think it is the PERFECT primary blue! Also, blue can be tricky to match sometimes, and if I DO end up getting rid of some of the old colors, I'm keeping all of the blues.
Cameo Coral and Ruby Red - they go really well together. Good thing that I am not a demo so I can use whichever colors I want to especially when I scrapbook!!

In my efforts to use up my apricot appeal (another color that I never really liked), I discovered that it pairs wonderfully with brilliant blue. If I get a minute, I'll up load a card that I made with it.

No offense to anyone, but I am mystified why people feel they want to get rid of things because they are retired, unless you really just don't like them anymore. I am more the type who would stock up on them rather than get rid of them.

<-------- doesn't really purge anything!
i actually stocked up on taken with teal and cameo coral. of all the colors, i've not found close enough matches to those which are 2 of my all time FAV's. SIGH
Well, I didn't have a lot of the retiring colors to begin with except Mellow Moss and Sage Shadow and Really Rust which I use all the time and am going into withdrawal as I watch my supply dwindle since I was unable to purchase any more.........I will see when the new ones come out but I tend to use a small group of colors in inks--and papers---well guess I can sift the lists and find close enoughs from other companies if I just can't break the habit.

Out of the retiring colors; I kept 13 of them. Some because I love them, some because the paper is almost gone anyway.
I kept Handsome Hunter, Really Rust, Ruby Red, Mellow Moss, Brocade Blue and Bordering Blue because I really love them and use them a lot in the fall and winter. But I didn't try to stock up on any of them. When they're gone, they're gone.
I also kept Brilliant Blue and Glorious Green because I use them a lot making "boy" things. I am sad to see them go as I consider them really good basic colors, and I haven't seen any replacements out in the market.
Also in the keep pile is Green Galore, Lovely Lilac, Summer Sun, Lavender Lace, and Yo-Yo Yellow. Most of these I am very low on paper and figure I will just use it up. I will miss the purples when they are gone but decided to save my money toward new colors instead of trying to stock up.
Everything else I got rid of through E-bay. I would have done it out here but since the colors aren't officially "retired" until the new catalog is released I couldn't wait. I wanted the money to use toward new colors I've got my eye on as soon as I get my hands on the new catalog! I even sold my ink, refill, paper and marker of Pretty in Pink because I just never really liked that color!! I much prefer the Pink Pirouette and will be buying that to replace it.
I cannot part with any of my paper. It took me a long time to get all the colors and I may need them one day. Besides, I cannot afford to get all the new colors to replace them.
Since I am no longer an SU demo and I stamp for myself/fun/relaxation I will hang onto them. I really wish I could stock up on some colors but right now extra spending is not in the budget.
not being a stamp demo, I'm not parting with any either. Love the in colors and the color challenges on this site. I will still play around with them until I gain more new colors. Can't part with sage shadow and taken with teal, kiwi kiss, pacific point

I am not parting with any either and have spent big bucks over May and June to beef up my supplies of all the colors...Love the variety I have.
blessings.
Im not a demo, so I dont see the point in retiring anything in my collection. Since I only buy colors that I really like, I dont have an abundance of stuff so Ill just keep it all until I use it up.
I'm getting rid of all cardstocks, inks, refills, crayons etc that are retiring - it's taken me hours and hours to get everything out and sort thru it all but I have just so much stuff that I want a clean slate to start the new catalog...
I have sorted everything into grab bags and am going to be giving them away to customers...I want to make room for the new stuff and clearing out felt sooo good
s-s-s-summer s-s-sun and bbbbballet blue!!! *sob :( *sniff
These are my two favorite colors also and was heartbroken to hear they're retiring.:(
I'm a demo, but I'm keeping EVERYTHING! I admit that I'm a hoarder. I did go through all my scraps and throw away a lot though. I'm also going to try to not have more than two packs (one open and one full) of current cs at any one time. I've started my Christmas cards for this year and have been trying to use up some of my stuff. I'm also hoping to use up some of my excess making birthday cards next week.
I love all the retiring colors and am sorry to see them go, but I will miss Green Galore, Handsome Hunter, Ruby Red (these three are among my faves for holiday cards), Close to Cocoa and Creamy Caramel (which I use frequently for dog themed cards) the most.
Keeping just a few retired/retiring colors, but I didn't stock up. Have ink, refills and paper in Close to Cocoa, Barely Banana, Pale Plum and Bermuda Bay (sub for Tempting Turquoise, love BB!)
I'm keeping some ink pads mainly in the old Subtles for sponging edges, plus Going Gray and Really Rust.
Keeping ALL the markers, more the merrier! Once I get all the new marker colors and stamp with them I can decide if I want to get full size pads in the new colors.
I had 10 of the retiring colors in ink pads, but no re-inkers or markers. I really did not have much paper in those 10 colors either. So, it was easy to give the pads to my daughter-in-law as there was just one color that I really wanted to (and did) stock up on and that is Bermuda Bay. I just love that color and like to mix it with So-Saffron and black and white highlights. I am anxious to start collecting the new colors too. I hope they have ribbon in all colors this time.
I love Taken with Teal, too. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Taken with Teal ink matched Paper Trey's Hawiian Shores cardstock! I have my Taken with Teal ink pad and a full refill so I should be good for a few years? LOL
