Is it just me or does anyone else feel ripped off after purchasing the new catty?
I paid $10 for it and I am not thrilled with any of the sets. (All way too flowery for me) I can deal with not liking the sets - but I have only found 2 ideas that even like a little.... And, on top of that - they took out the recipes.
Your demo. can get the recipes for you if you want them. (I think they did that because it was more cost effective...so they don't have to raise the price on the catty.)
I'm sorry that you feel that you got ripped off.
You can still use the catty for ideas...you don't have to use the same stamp sets as they did for the samples...you can adapt them to what you already have. Besides, only 5 more months and there will be a new catalog.

Um, I can definately say that I have been more excited about other catties in the past. But I still like this catty because of the few new accessories they have added. I could have stayed with the fall/ winter catty though. I don't jump for joy nearly as much as I did 3 years ago.
To be sure, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. ;)
I personally find it to be the best I've ever seen SU! produce, however, I'm looking at the catalog and idea book as a whole, not just whether or not I like the stamp sets they've produced.
Perhaps you know a fellow stamper you could gift it to, that would enjoy the samples and inspiration?

Hmm. I agree that there's not too much in the new catalog that excites me, but I still love having it. It's nice to have for reference when talking with friends and sometimes I'll see something that didn't catch my eye at first that I simply must have at the end of the season.
I'm also a "set" person (it would drive me crazy to have F/W 08 and F/W 09 and not have S/S 09 in between), so I like it having it for that reason as well.
If you're unhappy with it, then perhaps you could see if your demo would take it back. She might be able to use for display at her shows or something.
I guess its personal preference and what we like. I find this catty is gonna cost my wallet ALOT more than the past 3 years or so has. That said, I do think more of my money will go toward nonstamp items in the catty than it has in the past. Part of that is because thanks to SCS I've been exposed to other companies and I don't buy just SU! anymore. Part of that is I have so many stamps that I don't use and I'm wanting to buy new stuff to use them with. Also, after I look at the gallery and stuff made here with the SU! sets (and other co sets LOL) I find what I like/want/HAVE to have changes to include stamps that didn't inspire me before.
I probably won't be buying many stamps BUT I always love the ideas and the colour combos in the catalogs, this one included. Hope you find more in there the more you look at it.

and while I too find only a few stamp sets personally appealing,,,I still want the catalog because I need to restock paper, inks and there is always a punch or two to order.......
I agree that you can use the layouts pictured with different stamp sets....
and now that I am a designer paper convert-----I couldn't be without my catalog.......

I've heard mixed reviews. Some like it, some don't care for it too much. Personally, I think the catty is beautiful, and the samples are fab -- and while I probably won't buy a lot of sets, I think the ideas are worth the price for me to justify buying it.

i have been stamping for some time now so i will probably only be buying a few sets this time too.
but i do love to have it for all the inspiration it provides.
i have always seen the 'idea book' side of the catalog more than the 'catalog' side. seeing the stamps they offer in full size is just a bonus for me. i love to see all the color combos, layouts, and techniques used.
Wow. I personally really like the new catalog after going through it a couple of times. Not all the sets call to me but they never do. And the samples are a big bonus for me. Try thinking outside the box with a sample using an existing set you have and you'll be surprised with what you can come up with.
I'm sorry you're disappointed. Maybe give it a few days and see if it grows on you. That usually is the case for me.

I think this site is great for ideas...sometimes you won't even see a set in the catty or see it and say "Yep, don't need it." and then someone (Like Julie) will do something FABULOUS with it and then you HAVE to have it! This happens to me all the time!
Sorry this one wasn't your style. They can't please every person, every time. I like the trends right now, but next year it may be your turn! ;)
I still think that $10 is a bargain for the idea book, even if you don't like the specific stamp sets. I've paid $15-$20 for craft magazines that don't have nearly as many samples.
Maybe you can still find some value in the layouts, color combos, use of embellishments, etc.?
I guess I'm odd man out because I finally like a lot of the stamp sets in this catty. I haven't really been excited about SU sets for a few years so this catalog is a treat for me.

I just couldn't imagine *not* having the new catalog. I quickly paged through it and while nothing immediately jumped out at me, I found that perusing it again and again, allowed me to find things I "want" and/or "need" and also some inspiration.
Maybe if you put it down for awhile and come back to you, it'll hit you differently.
you're lucky over there in the USA - we only get one catalogue a year here in the UK, and it's much smaller than yours - I wish we had yours!!! (not fair!!)
oh man, i just quickly glanced thru the new catty online and MUST have it in my hands!!! I am seeing a LOT of stamps that are seriously calling my name. *sigh*
IMHO this is one of the best catalogs ever! The past 2 years I have bbeen disapointed, but this one is great. A great variety of different styles of stamps. Although I am still waiting for more realistic and vintage styles.
What I really liked about this catty is the samples. If you take some time a look really close you see some very cute ideas. I went through my catty and marked all the different ways to do things.
On pg 26 - did you see how they use a single circle punch to make scallops
behind the butterfly? or the really cute ribbon looped around the stem of the dandelion?
How about pg 38 - one of the birtday candles is stamped on acetate and overlaid on the other candles. Too cute
There are a ton of great ideas and color combos. I think that because I have so many stamps, it gets harder and harder for me to be wowed and sometimes I'm not in synch with the styles, but, I do like the ideas. As for price, I pay $15 for mags/idea books and most of the time I only get 4 - 5 good ideas. I figure $10 is worth it just for the ideas alone. With that said, I wish there was only one catty a year!
I think this catalog has a great mix. And I think there is always going to be a million flower set, but people have different tastes in flowers. I personally love everything in the Retro Fresh collection, but I'm not too interested in the Sweet Bella collection. It's just not my style. And the accessories section blew me away this year. I can't wait to get my hands on those corduroy buttons and button latte and new glitter colors and textured DSP. And one day I'll break down (and save up) and get the Big Shot.
