Hi all,
I have decided that I need to purchase a background stamp after seeing all the cool things everyone does with them.
My question is which one if your favorite, or would you purchase first?
All input is appreciated!
Sort of depends on the type of cards you love to create or are attracted to....ie. simple but elegant, distressed, formal etc.
I use my "Canvas" and "Floral" quite a bit....but use "French Script" on fancier/formal type cards ie. wedding AM digging the "Fine Lace" background as well as it gives a lovely texture...hhmmmm....Guess I'm not much help as I love backgrounds!!
I would definitely get Canvas or Just Jeans first. You can use those with absolutely any stamp set since they just add texture. I do love all of them though.
I am loving Houndstooth. I just got it - but it is really nice with lots of things. I just made this adorable snowman card with it using rose red ink on rose red cardstock.
I agree with some of the others regarding the type of cards you like to make. My favorite is French Script. I use the full stamp for backgrounds and put whatever I want of it. Also it is great to just clip the corner of an envelope or card for further dimension. It can also be used to fill in a blank space that just has to have something by only inking a corner or masking.
Good Luck....all background stamps are great just use it different ways not just as a full background stamp.
I have to go with Canvas. It is so versatile. Works great just with versamark or can have a totally different look by using dark ink on light paper. You can literally use it with any set!!

..."Weathered" to go with my horse stamps and covered bridges but no one has mentioned that one ! I love some of the others mentioned too...has been a tough decision for me, too !!!!!
I just got my Print Pattern b/g stamp and I must say I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. Canvas is next on my list though. (Did I mention that I love print pattern?)
I agree that canvas is probably the best place to start.
My favorite background is always the one I want next! There are 6 sets on my current wish list. 4 of them are backgrounds. I think they're addicting.

Absolutely addicting but they really add that little bit more to make your card fab. I have a lot of them...French Script, Linograph, Floral, Canvas, Paisley, Musical Score, Homespun Plaid, Love Swirls, Filigree and Print Pattern is on the way. I think that Canvas and Print Pattern are the most versatile and so a great place to start.
Warning: I decided I should get A background stamp last year around this time. I now have seven and wondering why I don't have more and when I will get more!!! Very addicting but well worth the money! They add SOOOO much to a card!
My suggestion for a good one to start with would be CANVAS. Basic, nice texture and you can use it with a variety of styles.
Other favorites: just jeans, french script, by definition, weathered.
Top on my wish list: print pattern.
I have a shameful number of background stamps and I must say that the great majority go unused. That being said, I have 2 BG stamps that I use VERY frequently - Canvas (current) and Filigree (retired).
I think the reason I use both of these BG stamps so much is that they are versitile in a way that some of the others are not....they each provide texture and interest without calling attention to themselves. You won't find yourself looking at a sample using them and thinking "wow, look at the floral background" or "wow, notice the cool writing in the background" -- instead you will notice a subtle added deepth & richness to the card.
I love my canvas BG stamp, followed closely by Script. I have several BG stamps but these are the two I use the most. Canvas for me, is by far the easiest stamp to use and just seems to lend itself to any set or project you create.
I'm placing an order tomorrow and would like one more large stamp, am having a difficult time choosing JUST ONE!!!!
