After much thought and consideration, I am getting out of stamping. While I loved the buying and collecting of stamp stuff, I never seem to have the time or the drive to stamp. I have about 40 current and retired sets to sell as well as accessories that are both SU and non-SU. I had a garage sale a few weeks ago and listed this in the paper. I sold a few sets but no where near as many as I had hoped. It was a neighborhood sale and it was in the middle of the week. All sets were priced at 5.00 off but people hardly even looked at them. I am thinking now of either putting them on e-bay which I hate to do, or trying a Saturday garage sale, hopefully with more luck. I am wondering if anyone has done either or both and what advice you have.
Thank you,
Tanya

Definitely on the bst here or on ebay is the way to go. You will get more money than you would at a garage sale and people are looking for stamps on the bay and here ...
Ebay is much easier to do than it used to be. You can ship your stamps right from home by using the Click 'n Ship option right through Paypal and schedule your packages to be picked up from your house. If you do priority mail, you don't even have to pay for your boxes and envelopes!
Some sets do very well up there, others, like old SAB and hostess sets, not so much.
When you sell them here or on eBay you are getting people who are willing to pay for a specific set. At garage sales it always seems like people only want to buy stuff for $1 no matter what it is. So I would definitely go here or ebay or if you have any stamping friends see if they are wanting any of your sets and sell them to them.
Ebay is a great option. There is no reason not to use it. I use it to refresh my stamping cash. I have never had any trouble with buyers or getting decent prices for my items. Good luck!

I had a garage sale a couple of weeks ago that was very well attended. I had about 5 sets to sale and some cool accessories all priced to sell. Not one thing sold:( Have you thought about contacting your local stamp store to see if they ever have craft sales (I know one of mine does this). Sorry to hear you are leaving the craft...best of luck!
I would try the BST forum here first. I am not an ebayer so I have no advice there!
I have sold a TON of stuff over the years at garage sales but you need to advertise that you have SU stuff. Around here, there is a group of women who stalk garage sales looking for SU stuff and I have never had anyone tell me my stamp sets were priced too high. I mark my stuff down reasonably and usually get rid of a lot!

I would love to know what you have ~ do you have a list?
I've bought tons of stuff on here and on ebay both....I have also bought sets at garage sales but only paid about $1-$2 a set. Definitely you can get more money here or ebay

I would do the B/S/T here on SCS. I did the ISO looking for retired stamps and ppl replied and bought them. I like lookin on BST to see what they have.
I would sell on eBay because garage salers want something for next to nothing. I know I wouldn't pay good money at a garage sale for stamps. You'll make so much more on eBay.
The demonstrators in our area run a stamping and scrapbooking garage sale each year. We (about 8 of us) made well over $1000 last year. We advertised it as such in the paper and to all our customers. This year I have customers that took off work, and we have people flying up that chose that weekend to visit because of our huge sale. The BST here will be my second line and eBay is last because of the fees and low return.

we used to do that here too and it worked great! we would run it Friday night and all day Saturday at another demo's house.

As for garage sales, here in the Toronto area people don't want to pay big bucks even if there are quality items. You are lucky to get 5 cents on the dollar for a lot of items.
The few times I have attended garage sales I got some premium stuff for a buck of two and later saw it for sale in stores for about $50.
As others have said, the BST here is a good way to start and even better if you can accept paypal. Then, what doesn't sell could be put on eBay. Again, if you accept paypal it makes things so much easier.
For the smaller less popular sets, it might work to combine 2 or 3 but the nicer more popular sets should be sold on their own. Also, with some tools and things like ink pads, it may be worthwhile to combine a few items. If you list on a Saturday or Sunday and have a 7 day listing, you will catch more people at home.
It seems those items ending on the weekend, and not very late at night, keep times zones in mind, get the best prices. If you are buying, then those ending in the middle of the day sell for less and may be a good deal.
Good Luck. It is worth it to do it properly. Again, people do not attend garage sales to get $5.00 off an item unless it normally sells for $5.25.
When I've had stamps to sell, I almost always do it through ebay. The only times I've posted on the B/S/T was when the stamps really had no "following" on ebay (like the bella's I traded away) or when I had a specific wishlist of items that I wanted to trade for.
I wish I lived closer. I probably would have bought all of your stuff if I'd been at your garage sale! I am always looking for SU at garage sales, and haven't had much luck this summer.
Thank you all for the reply. Many of the sets I am selling are current which is why I haven't listed them on the BST here. For those of you that asked what I have, I will make a list and e-mail it to you later tonight. I could put the retireds on here and then sell the others on e-bay...

I wouldn't sell them at a garage sale either... I've bought many sets from those sales dirt cheap and then saw the prices they sold for on eBay, wow. I bought my French Script bg for 5 bucks at a yard sale and the lady was not happy. She had $20 on the price tag but nobody bought it all day so she finally caved.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking, too - do you know any other stampers or demos in your area where you could combine your things and advertise to the right market? Sometimes local stamp stores will coordinate used stamp sales for their customers; I'd check with them as well.
I've purchased dozens of sets off ebay and almost all were positive transactions - I was a very satisfied customer. But the shipping is very costly, and there's always the possibility that they might go astray. I've also purchased off the BST forum here and have never had a bad experience.
My preference is to buy them in person, and I always spend tons of $$ at my demo's group's annual garage sale, which is always very well attended. They hold their sale on a Saturday (only one day) and it's always around the same time of the year (in July, after the new catty comes out). It's advertised in local papers as a stamp and craft sale, I believe, and ONLY draws people who are particularly interested in those items, know what they cost (realistically) and are willing to spend. So, I guess it all depends on how you market it?
Anyhow, good luck with your sale, but I'm sorry to hear you've lost interest.

There is one other option....www.craigslist.com
Your adverstisement will be local so people can pick them up or you can offer shipping and if you use paypal you can click and send it immediately after they pay you. Paypal now has 2 options to ship directly from them USPS and UPS.

Girlfriend - tell me about these women who stalk garage sales!! I want to join them!!! I try to stalk the g-sales but I've only had luck once. But I still keep looking.
Personally, I have tried to sell at g-sales and have had small amt of luck - ebay is the best b/c you get great prices for your stuff. But since you have to leave your stuff on the bay between 3-7 days, you might sell it faster in the B/S/T forum here.
Well, I decided to try all three options. I sold about 18 sets at the sale, (still have about 50 left), I have sold one set and a few accessories through here and now I am turning to E-bay. Thank you all for your input.

I'm a garage sale stalker looking for rubber stamps. I keep hoping that I'll find the mother load of stamps. No luck yet. :( You'd probably make more money in the Buy/Sell forum or eBay than a garage sale.
The receptionist at the chiropractor's office I go to has a lot of stamps that she doesn't use. I told her she should bring them to work when I have my next appointment and I'll buy them from her. She said she's gone to a lot of parties but just doesn't stamp. The subject came up when I told her about how I've been going to garage sales looking for rubber stamps.... that it was my ultimate DREAM to find some. LOL
