Question Embossing Buddy

How important is it to have an Embossing Buddy? What does it do?

Default Embossing Buddy

I haven't embossed a lot, so this is an early impression. I think how important it is depends on how fine your powder is. I bought fine detail powder from Micheal's and it stuck very easily to everything so it looked messy without using the embossing buddy first. I then used coarser powder and did not have so much of a problem.

It has t do with the moisture in your paper too...using the embossing budy gets rid of some of the moisture that could make powder stick where you do not want it too...my embossing is SOOO much neater when I use one.

I went without one for quite some time, but then went ahead and bought one. I personally cannot imagine not having/using it now. I do a lot of embossing, and most of my stamps have a lot of detail to them. I use the detail embossing powder, and it has dramatically improved the finished image. It takes away the static cling so the powder stays on your stamped image and doesn't fly away and get embossed somewhere else on your image. I've heard that you can also use a dryer sheet (used??) and that it works nicely too, although I have not tried this technique.

I always use one, although I didn't get mine through SU; I got it at Michael's, I think.

Thanks to everyone. Now I know that I need one....I've had trouble with embossing powder sticking where I don't want it. I ordered one yesterday, but wasn't sure if I really needed it.

Yes, you can use a dryer sheet (new). It does not work as well as the Buddy, but will work in a pinch.

Use black embossing powder and you will see how much you need one! I used clear and I thought Oh I don't need it. Then I tried to emboss with black and it looked TERRIBLE!!!

for absolutely sure get one!!! It makes a huge difference. The other "obscure" tool that is amazing is a stamp-a-ma-jig. It's awesome too, no more crookedly placed stamps!

Thanks. I looked at the stamp-a-ma-jig thing, but didn't order it. I'll get that next time.
