Default Eco Upcycle Ideas-HELP!

Hi Guys-

Need a little help here. I am going to be vending at a local Eco Indie Arts and Crafts show and I need some project ideas and maybe some good website to visit for upcycled/recycling projects. Vintage style, mixed media, and mostly 3-D projects are what I am looking for currently.

So please post some ideas here and maybe some links to great website for inspiration.

Most of my projects so far are vintage style and shappy chic-that is kinda my upcycle style. Right now I am working on using old text paper and music sheets for making little layered flowers with vintage buttons and I am putting them in old wood thread spools. I am also considering attaching the wood spools to old wood rulers so that they can hang on the wall to hold necklaces-like a jewelry organizer. I am also making children's banners out of old Little Golden Books.

Right now that is all I have got so I am looking to expand and need some great ideas. Please share. Photos and links would be great too!

Thanks much for any help in advance.

Jill

Jill,

Have you seen Flea Market Style magazine? There are some great ideas there and they have a web site and blog. I also look at Etsy not necessarily to buy, but to see what other artist/crafters are making. You can search for mixed media, vintage chic, etc. on the web and come up with lots of sites. Hope this helps.

Hi PaperMoments, I love to alter old wooden boxes that I purchase from thrift stores. Here is my most recent creation using Graphic45 papers.

Dry emboss the aluminum from soda cans and then paint the plain side (inside of can) with acrylic paint to mimic old tin ceiling tiles. This would be pretty wrapped around a wooden box or candle holder and nailed into place with brads. You could maybe even make coster sets.

Check out the card that NC Tammy made for the month swap that we were in.

Talking about soda cans, I love stamping (I use Stazon) on the inside of the cans after I have cut them open. Here is a card that I completed with this technique. The dog, balloon and icing on the cup cake are all made from recycled soda cans. I stamped, cut around the image and added a little bling.

Are you making sewing projects? I really like to make things out of old bedsheets. I've made a skirt, and these shopping bags (this is a page from my blog):

It's all about the cats!: Kliban cat bedsheet "upcycled"

They are simple to make and if you get your sheets at a yard sale or thrift store, the fabric is super cheap!
