I haven't been keeping up on this ebay thing, I'm not much into it, but I did check it out. Just wondering how someone can sell a brand new set for LESS than what it costs in the catalog? Is there something I'm not getting?
If you're refering to the set Simple Salutations, every demo got it free. It's coming out in next year's catalog. Customers can order this & 5 other new sets at 50% off in March.

Demonstrators selling on e-bay
Well -- seems to me that there are people out there who believe they are terminally unique. They think that rules do not apply to them. Or, they believe the ends (selling stamp sets at any cost and outside the rules) justifies the means. But, in reality they have to live with themselves. It does not matter if this person needs money or desperate or whatever. The reality is that this person and others who do what she does will violate whatever rules that exist. I feel sad about this, but I think it's okay people report her and at some point she will have her consequences. Remember every action generates an equal reaction -- in this case consequence.
If you are talking about other current sets it's probably because they are a demo and they can buy at their discount. Plus if they are selling a lot or if they have a downline they get overrides from SU that lower their cost even more.
Ok, question. I for the first time saw the little link at the bottom of the thread that says stop watching this topic. Let me be 100% sure, (I'm only 98% sure now). If I click on that, it will only stop sending me emails when there is a post.... is that right?
As interesting as this topic is and as much as I participated in it as well I really think that at least I need to lay it to rest. I've spent way too much time reading this and not looking at other threads that interest me and looking at the gallery. I will be coming back to check the answer to my question, but that's it. Like the fact that someone asked if we could come find her post about coloring something white. I don't want to spend so much time on this thread that I miss out on other stuff.
Thanks for the interesting posts though.

Cam....You are going to have to go back and edit your comment about my card. SURELY you meant it was Da Bomb (which is good) and not a bomb (which is bad). ROTF
Love ya, girl!
No babe..... it's A BOMB BABY!!! It's all good!! Nothing bad about bombs here girl.... they are ALL good!
Thanks for helping me clean up my confusion. As I checking out ebay last night, I saw sets in the current mini that go for 19.95 for 14.99. It's hard to believe that demos would do this. I started in Aug. and would never think of doing that, but then again, I'm not a big ebay person anyways, that's for the DH.
Before the ebay madness continues to be a topic of discussion, I am going to repost from a fwe pages ago. Thanks! (and sorry for those of you who have to read it twice :( )
I have been biting my tongue and not posting-but at this point I think the discussion about sets on ebay needs to be over-not just for now, but for a long while. If you do a search for "current sets on ebay"-I think you will be surprised at how often this occurs. And from the response that one of our wonderful members got, it seems like at least one unscrupulous seller not only sells on ebay but also posts here, and is probably enjoying the notoriety in a sick little way.
So for now, let's let it go. Demos-yes, it hurts business, but focus on the wonder of YOUR business and how great YOU are for your customers. YOU are what makes the Stampin Up! name fantastic, not just the sets. Lots of places sell sets, but SU demos are the best above any other company out there for a myriad of reasons-sorry-to ME that is a fact.
So, let's not worry about this set for a while. Please feel free to continue to e-mail DS when you see a violation, that is awesome. But please let us here at SCS give this topic a nap.
Thanks
(I am posting this on all threads about this item-so if it seems like deja vu, it probably is )

I'm not sure how to report somone or if this one has already been reporte.
This is NOT my attempt to keep the ebay discussion going - just thought it was interesting to see that ebay members ID History. I recognize that name...
To report an ebay seller to SU!, there is a link at the bottom of the auction that says "email this auction to a friend" and your FRIEND at stampin' up! is [email protected]
wow.. angfab.. i too recognize that name.. HOW INTERESTING.. makes sense.. all the conflict that was here during election..
things that make you go HMMMMMMM........

I agree with the "scared to be crucified" comment....
First...this is definitely NOT our problem to be "policing" auctions for "current" SU items, but the "sole" responsibility of SU or eBay.
Next, If you only knew that for all of your efforts in reporting this kind of activity....probably 99% of them NEVER actually end in a cancelling of an auction!
Most importantly...the rules governed by SU themselves state that once their product becomes the property of a customer...THAT CUSTOMER has the right to dispose of THAT PROPERTY as they choose.
The ONLY area of possible violation for a "non-demo" in this auction is the "copyright" issues of the actual depiction in her auction photo.
Other than that...there is really nothing that SU or eBay will have a reason to act upon.
I've heard all of the controversy regarding why these products should not be sold on any auction sites, BUT my personal view on this matter is that if you are dedicated in selling your business and do it well...a few bad apples are definitely NOT going to spoil it for any of us!
My real wish is that those who spend this much effort on this kind of hunting down of the questionably illegal auctions would spend this much time and effort on something with a more positive outcome...like volunteering for charitible work where their efforts would really make a difference in someones life who needs our help!
Well, that's my two cents on the matter and hope I haven't offended anyone who feels different about this. My sales for last quarter were $5000 dollars +, so these auctions are DEFINITELY not getting in my way and they won't for you either IF you work hard at your sales!

Please, just make sure it's who you think it is. Someone could go on there and use GMAX as their signature, and it wouldn't necessarily be me. But, I don't have anything to sell; I hoard it all.

The thing I don't understand about SU! and ebay is why does SU! tolerate ebay allowing pictures of their products to be posted. I thought that the copying of their images was a copywrite infringement.

Since the images have the SU! copyright symbol on the stamp they are not violating any copyright laws.. DARN!
HERE'S A THOUGHT.
This has got to be a Demo and Customer working together. THe Ebay seller is not a Demo...but her friend is. Her friend (the demo) is not a registered EBAY seller. That way...they ebay seller would never show up as a Demo! Make sense?
How would SU! ever catch a team like this? AAAHHHHH
oh I have soo much more to say...but there's no need to beat a dead horse.
Please, just make sure it's who you think it is. Someone could go on there and use GMAX as their signature, and it wouldn't necessarily be me. But, I don't have anything to sell; I hoard it all.
SU! will take care of it....... they are not going to tolerate it and made that clear at convention. I'm sure they will be very careful to get the correct people. And... they encourage us to forward abuse to support... it hurts everyone in the long run when a few bad apples rott in the bunch! ;)
I don't have the time to hunt down people on Ebay... but I applaud the ones who have run accross them and turn them in. AND.... I think it STINKS what our fellow SCS did to the FAB one! STINKS!!! Leave our happy place and go back to the trash can you climbed out of!!
Did someone say "Stinks"? Well I thought I smelt a nasty Bomb. How could it be that one of our SCS friends could lay that kind of stench in this great yard we all play in?!?!?!
I think I need to get over to big sky country and pay a visit to that seller. I would like to get up close and personal with her and spray to her, I mean SAY to her that I think she STINKS!
Hey, Just had a thought.... Those ebay sellers are lurking around here so they can scoop up our fair, decent, non-greedy priced stamps to turn around on ebay.
They are probably the same pushy people that show up at my friend's neighborhood the night before the huge yearly garage sale trying to score all the deals before the regular shoppers arrive in the morning. Yup, every year they are cruising and stopping the night before (she tells them to come back in the morning) and sometimes they are peeking in the window at 7 am instead of waiting till 9!! (and she tells them to get back onto the street!) Once someone used a reverse phone book to get her phone number using her address and called her to ask what she had! I didn't even know such a thing existed!
They just feel they are entitled to special treatment that the 'good shoppers' would never even think to ask for. They are so, so special. and entitled. And I'm sure these ebay sellers feel they are entitled to do whatever they want too. They ARE the most important after all. Wonder if they are the people that think the red lights are to get everyone else to stop so THEY can go?! ;-)
And sorry if some of you are light-runners!! Don't be offended - but cut it out, hey!!!! :-)

We don't know for sure that this gal is the same person on our site, or that she is an actual SU demo either.... we'll just let SU! handle it. But we do know that someone here was picking on Ang Fab and that is just not right!! There is nothing wrong with SU! demo's selling items on Ebay as long as they are selling retired things..... and they obey SU! policies.
STINKS baby.... go get em Skunky!! I'm so glad you are alive!!
Unless Ebay feels the pain from this, they will not do anything about it . . . Unfortunately, they will not work in partnership with SU! to curb this sort of thing, something I find a sad reflection on Ebay itself . . .
Actually I reported one of these auctions to Ebay - this is a promotional item, promotional items are not allowed to be sold on ebay. Here is teh auto-responder that I received:
We will review the listing(s) you have reported for violations of our
Potentially Infringing Items policies. In order to keep eBay a safe and
fun place to trade, we often rely on members like you to bring such
violations to our attention.
In light of our privacy policy, we cannot share with you any action
taken by eBay with respect to this listing. If we determine that the
listing violates eBay policy, we may:
1. send the seller an informational alert;
2. remove the listing; or
3. suspend the seller.
Account suspensions are usually reserved for those sellers that
repeatedly disregard policy.
If the item you reported does not appear on its face to be infringing,
we may refer it to the intellectual property rights owner for review. If the rights owner has a good faith belief that the item is infringing,
they may choose to send eBay a formal request to remove the listing. For more information on eBays cooperation with rights owners, please visit:
I can see how you feel! How wrong it is for this person to go about selling a gift that was sent to all of us at such an outrageous price. SU is known for having the best prices, being the most affordable and reasonable company when it comes to Stamping supplies. This person is really making a bad impression for the rest of us. She is totally reaping people off! I do hope that the people involved with this e-bay practices will be held accountable for their actions.
And they start it at only 99cents. If I were SU, I would go on as a user undercover and bid on it and try to win it, then try to get there info(name and address) to send them a check or M/O(to then find them and hunt them down.
I have just come from my friends bedside. She is dying of cancer. This weekend she had to put her dog to sleep because the dog only responded to her. She held it in her arms and sang "you are my sunshine" until it died. Then she went into hospice to die herself. I stayed with her because she is afraid of dying in the dark alone. I came to this site to get a little "down time" I thought WOW 190 posts that must be a good thread. I am ashamed at myself for reading so many! I am ashamed at all of us, those who sell, those who point fingers at those who sell an those who have nothing better to do than write about it! I requested some cards for my friend, I got 37 replies (which I am grateful for)but with 20,000 + it does seem a bit small. I guess you were all too busy trying to catch ebay crooks at Christmas to notice it. I bet I would have gotten a much bigger response if I would have put EBAY in the heading. I am too tired for this. Life is to precious and MUCH too short.
It really was not my intent to get this discussion stirred up again. (Sorry moderators ) I have been following this topic because it interests me particularly as I struggle many quarters to meet my minimums as a demo. I emphatically state that I DO NOT have the time to police ebay by myself. I spend very little time there, as life is busy. I DO take the time to email certain auctions to DS and that is the extent of it. I leave it up to them to do what is needed for the better of their company. I truly think that they rely on us (demos) to aid in the enforcement of their contracted policies, but I leave the main detective work to the compliance department.
I have ALSO been following along, because there is at least one person reading along who sent me an email thru ebay channels as a reply to my "question to seller". In his/her reply to me, she used my name Ang, and made reference to mine and other posts on this thread. This made me feel creepy, as my name Ang is not in my ebay id. I also did not care for her "neener neener neener" attitude. So I read all the posts and wonder, "Is that the one???"
As I said in an earlier post, it will take me awhile to shake this creepy feeling. BUT I WILL!
Lastly, I want to comment on the tsk tsk we all have read. YES - life is short, and is precious. SCS is my "happy place" and I read the topics that interest me. Please don't assume that I have a perfect and FAB life and don't have a care for what is really important. My own dear father is in failing health and I struggle with that daily, while watching my big strong daddy suffer and become weaker each day. While I know that I can share that in it's own thread, and I will get oodles of support and sympathy from my best SCS buds, I haven't yet felt comfortable doing that. As I said, SCS is my happy place, where I come to "get away" from it all. Perhaps it is the same for many? We should not assume that everyone is consumed only with ebay.
Thanks for letting me ramble! Everyone do what you think is appropriate with regards to the ebay situation, but as Britta requested, perhaps we should forgo the ongoing discussion for awhile? I'll keep reading, but not sure I can say anything new that hasn't been said...
SU is aware of the auctions and I'm sure they are trying their hardest to find out the name of the demonstrator that is supplying these items.
This was posted on the SU web site.
<< 12/17/2004 - Internet Auction Policy Reminder
Because selling on eBay and other Internet auction Web sites damages the business of all demonstrators, Stampin’ Up! has a strict policy against selling current merchandise on eBay. Currently, there are auctions for Sell-A-Bration sets and the new gift set, Sincere Salutations. Stampin’ Up! will aggressively pursue investigations of these sites, and we will terminate the demonstratorships of any demonstrators found selling on eBay or enabling others to sell current merchandise on eBay.
Well, It's just sad! We all know this person shouldn't be selling this on ebay. The biggest problem...they aren't doing anything wrong by ebay rules. I tried to help "catch" a seller who has an entire ebay store devoted to SU items! Most of these people don't list where they live. Their location just says "Blah blah blah." It's just messy from strat to finish!

I'm very sorry about your friend and that you didn't get a bigger response for cards. I would be happy to send a card if you pm me her address or a link to your post. You have to realize, it's the holidays. People are crazy busy. I did not see your post and have been responding to this one because of the notifications in my inbox, but I am not ashamed for participating since it is interesting to me. When I can find some downtime, I usually go right to the gallery, unless something catches my eye on the front page.... but, as you know, they change a lot with so many people posting. Again... I'm SO sorry for your friend and your loss. I would love to send a card.
When things got hot and heavy on this site during election time, I wasn't bothered a bit. Why? Because I did not read any of the threads about it. I chose not to even look, so I wouldn't get bothered by any comments.
So it seems like people could do the same about the eBay threads if they are bothered by them. As long as no rules are broken in posting, it seems like this is a topic that many are interested in pursuing.
The eBay topic seems to rear up every 3 months when demo only preordered sets appear. I'm sure it will die down again. And I'm sure SU is working on this as hard as they can at this time. They seem to be appreciative of any information they are given. If your help will pull an auction that one of my customer is bidding on, I am appreciative too.

Just because only 37 people actually replied to your thread, doesn't mean many more haven't seen your thread and taken the time to send a card, given that you posted her contact information directly in your message.
I am truly sorry that your friend is going through this and also sorry that you are enduring a painful time right now.
Your friend is lucky to have someone care deeply about her and you are lucky to have a friend so worthy of your friendship and love.
And, just because I participated in a topic of interest to me, does not mean I have any less sympathy for ANYONE going through a difficult time, and, I would think that the same is true of the many other SCS members.
I genuinely wish you and your dear friend peace.
