Double embossing
Hi. I'm so frustrated. I have watched so many videos on YouTube that show how to do this. But each time I try it fails. The card stock creases. The first embossing flattens. Everything I have read and watched said it was easy. I love the look but I can't get it to work. I've tried thin cardboard, one plate, etc. any suggestions. Thanks!

I highly recommend this set of embossing frames by Darice. They work perfectly and give the look you are talking about without having to use shims, etc.:

You're so welcome! I think I saw them one day on someone's blog when I was cruising around the internet.
And a tip when using them, after you have run them through your machine, use a stylus to go around the edge of the shape before you remove the frame. It gives a very nice effect that way. __________________

Those cards are darling. I spent hours trying to do this dang technique! I finally just had to walk away. It doesn't help that I'm "challenged" at this sort of thing. I spent forever and a day trying to cut the cardboard mat. I really struggled! Cardboard too thin, too thick, ugh!!! FINALLY got one cut out, and I thought I'd be using that so I tossed the frame. THEN I didn't realize the thing was supposed to be centered (since I thought I'd be using what I cut out, not the frame.) Finally, I cut out a proper frame. I was so excited! Ran it through the Big Shot, and ... the dang thing wasn't thick enough and the whole piece of CS got embossed!! So, I am going to take a break, and later tonight make two thin ones and tape them together. I remember now why I get so few cards made. By the time I finally get one finished I'm so sick of looking at it I don't want to even THINK of making another. Then I ask myself why I do it ... trust me, I'm not having "fun" as I'm doing it. lol

Oh Grateful! This has been the path I've done so many times with that technique. It looks so simple but it's not. I even asked a couple of stampin up demonstrators about it and guess what? They don't do it either. Lol.

Love that idea! I didn't care for it all that much originally because it wasn't crisp... But using the stylus was perfect. Thanks. __________________

If you want the indentation around the edge to go "in" do it with the stylus as is when you emboss. If you want the indentation to be "out", flip the cardstock, line up the frame around the shape, and use the stylus that way. It helps if you have something with some "give" under it, like a magazine. __________________

I finally did it! Didn't look all that great, but I did it. After all that work, I realized I'd have pretty much the same look if I just embossed the whole panel, then cut out the Nestie in the same color and stick it on top of the embossed panel. In fact, I think I like the look better. Go figure...  __________________
