Default Does it drive you crazy in gallery additions...

It makes me CRAZY when I look at the additions to the gallery and I click on a piece of art work only to get "image pending approval". I don't think anything should even be showing in the gallery unless it is totally approved. The current proceedure doesn't really make any sense since you can actually see the image in the first place (just not larger). And sometimes if you click on the members blog or website you can see the work anyway. Does that bother anyone else?

My fan club subscription ran out for a month and this is what I experienced:

My project thumbnail would not show up till I got an e-mail that it was approved.

Once I received the e-mail that it was approved the thumbnail would show up in the latest gallery additions and in searches of key words (like for challenges)

Then it would be at least a half an hour before my project was actually visible when the thumbnail was opened.

I am assuming that this is the time it takes for the server to cycle. I can tell you that it was just as frustrating to me as it sounds like it is to you.

I have a feeling (with no facts to back it up--just observation) that when the last gallery updates occurred this is the way uploads are handled.

So to sum it up--when it says *Image pending approval* and you got there by clicking on a thumbnail--it has been approved--the server just needs to catch up.

Yeah, it is annoying. And the bad part, to me, is that I usually end up missing the big photo and leaving any comments because I forget to go back and see what I missed. But, to me, that's the biggest perk of being a Fan Club member -- instant uploads so that nobody has to see "image pending approval."

Unless you are an SCS Fan Club Member, all uploads must await approval by a real human being, one of our volunteer Gallery Moderators. They make sure the uploads coming through our gallery are "appropriate" for our audience (stamping/paper crafting related, etc.) and properly categorized (to keep our gallery neat & tidy).

Our volunteer Moderators live in various parts of the country/North America, so they will be online at various hours. When they start their work in the gallery, they must work their way down the queue of pending images starting at the earliest and work their way to the most recent.

There are now an average of about 1,000 image uploads per day here on SCS  ; it takes our volunteers some time to work through that kind of volume. ;)

I'm not sure how long it takes for the approval to then roll through the system as the server "updates" the change. One should also keep in mind that there are over half a million images within SCS galleries; it is the largest online gallery of its kind.

Fan Club Members are entrusted to properly categorize their uploads, but, there are times, also, when something lands in the wrong spot and our Gallery Moderators do their best to get those corrected, when they see 'em.

If you would like to enjoy instant uploads on your images, you might consider becoming a Fan Club Member.

For those who are unfamiliar with the SCS Fan Club, here are some helpful links and info:

SCS Fan Club: The support of our Fan Club Members helps keep SCS up and running on the web
Fan Club Gallery*: A thank-you gift from SCS to Fan Club Members for supporting the site, feauring 3 1/2 years of exclusive artwork, unveiled every month on the 15th--and yes, when your subscription activates, you get access to ALL the back-issues!
Fan Club Forum*: Containing exclusive challenges where members can participate alongside the Design Team, and a library of patterns and explicit instructions for many of the projects featured in the gallery
Dirty Dozen Current: The designers, talented rubber stampers from within our SCS community, that create the fabulous artwork for this special gallery--as two finish their 6 month term, two new designers rotate in, every month!
Dirty Dozen Alumni: The awesome stampers/designers that have volunteered their skills over the years in support of SCS

Hope the above helps explain things.

Thank you!

*These links will not activate for you unless your Fan Club Subscription is current.

Joining the fan club will solve this for you own uploads, but it won't fix the "problem". Even fan club members have to deal with the complain above- they see OTHERS "image pending approval".

It is a slight annoyance but I usually just comment "the thumbnail caught my eye, but your image isn't approved yet. Thanks for sharing anyway" That way I don't feel bad that I didn't comment. I rarely go back to look again.

I have noticed since my fan club subscription ran out I get very very few comments- probably because by the time my image is approved it's hidden in the depth of the galleries.

Still, I understand WHY it's like that and appreciate all the volunteers who allow the gallery to exist. Maybe soon I'll have the membership again.
