I keep buying stamps, ink, paper, etc and have not even opened half of it. I think I just like the stamps out there and think of what I can do with a set, and then never really get around to doing it. Am I the only one like this? I know there are those who have hundreds/thousands of stamps. How do you use them all? Or do you just "collect" them to?
Heck no I don't use them all! I have a few favorite sets...and those are about all I use. I sometimes wonder why I have the ones I have and especially why I keep buying more!
You're not alone!!! There are many of us 'hoarders' here! We buy & buy but don't 'use' it all.
LOL - this is going to sound weird, but for me it's a 'comfort' feeling to have all my stamping stuff around me - even if I don't use it for a long time. It's like having a well stocked fridge or pantry - just comforting to know it's there. Eventually I do get around to making things again!!
I do use a fair amount of my stuff. I have more cardstock than I could ever use and I buy more and more but that's not a problem, right? The stamps I have I do use and if I'm not using them I sell or trade them so that I can get others that I will use. I'm in the process of cleaning out again so I can get new things
Yes, hoarding (collecting) is just about the name of the game! But then sometimes I see an idea or get an idea and I think, "Oh, I've got the perfect ____to do that! So sometimes something will come in handy and really work well. Maybe the biggest problem is remembering what I have!

It's like "nesting", when you're expecting!!!!
And, when you finally figure out what to do with the stuff you bought (the baby arrives), you are READY!
ROTFL!

I was just going through my stamp sets and noticed that a few aren't even opened let alone used. I also have a bunch of cardstock which I keep adding to! Hoping to get to it some day! :p
I like the word collector. I am a collector of rubber stamps & accessories!! That sounds alot better than addict  But does a collector get the shakes when the new catty comes out? Does a collector actually have to wipe the drool off of the little brown box? Does a collector actually love the color brown on a delivery guy? Does a collector stay on SCS just about all day & night? Hmmm.........
I tend to use the same sets over and over again and have others still not even mounted! I just mounted two sets last night so I could fulfill some image wishes for the WISH-RAK group! Lately I've been doing a lot of stamping since I'm involved in several local shoebox swaps and other swaps here. I purposely joined all the swaps to make myself starting stamping and not just collecting!
Add me to the addict . . . er . . . collector list! I tend to use the same few stamps over and over. But ya never know when inspiration will hit and I'll want to use a stamp I've never used before. And all my sets look so nice stacked on my shelves!

I have a rule for my self, I have to use at least one stamp out of every set I buy before I buy anymore stamps. I also must mount all my stamps as soon as they get in the door. There's something not right about having uncut, unmounted SU sets sitting on my shelf, call it an OCD thing.
but I think I've got the "just in case" rationalization down pretty good!
I just go through my stuff every few months and see what I haven't touched. Then either I try to use it soon, or trade it for something else (that may sit for another few months LOL). New is the keyword for us, I think. We want new stuff all the time.

I THINK I use all my stamp's, Mom is always haveing me go though them and get out all that I don't use, and then I buy more then what I sold to replace them!

I prefer the term "accumulator" as is sounds so much less psychotic, doncha think? ;)
I'm also with you on the pantry thing. Hey, my stamp room DOES look like a pantry!

Are you kidding me? Most days I can't even find the one set that I want to use! I must get organized! (Maybe that can be my New Year's resolution - yeah... that's it!).

Ditto to all of the above, but I also like to think of my self as an "investor." When I see what prices some of the retired stamps are fetching on ebay, I figure I'm "collecting" all these stamps for my daughter's inheritance! Linda

I have set that aren't even mounted yet...and I hate to say it but I think one or two have retired too!!! oops! I too have big plans when I purchase...and then sometimes things like paper, etc are too nice to use or I think, no, I might have a better use for this down the road! yeah right, usually once I use something and send it along, I forgot I ever had it to begin with! It is fun to collect and organize!!! I find though that I have been using alot more of my hoard/stash/collection/mess/fun toys (depending on who you are in my family and what you would call my "problem") by paticipating in the challenges! They are definitely a great motivator!!
The main thing is to have fun and enjoy your new hobby!!! It is a hobby - dont let anyone like your dh say its a problem or addiction ;) what do they know!!!!
Use them all.........at least once!! There are a couple I have touched yet but I've used them at least once. There are a few I have a favorites and return to. Like all true collectors, the whole reason of getting them is so you can 'have' them available when the inspiration hits you to NEED that particular type of stamp. I don't want to have to go to the store to get one small thing. That's why you get lots of extra stuff. Inspiration can fade in an instant! You need to have it on hand so you can create easily!! My DH and I had a saying that was true about gardening but it can really apply to anything. The gardening saying goes like this (you can change it to apply to your own hobby). A gardener has a spot and goes to the nursery and looks for a special plant to put in that spot. A collector sees a special plant and gets it because he knows it is special and then wonders where in the world he will put it! I am definitely in collector mode in rhododendrons, cars, and stamps!

By use do you mean actually put ink on them and press them on paper? That would mean cutting up the cardstock, unwrapping the embellishment packages, etc. and really actually creating some cards or scrapbook pages. Even though I stamp quite regularly honestly, I could never begin to use up the stuff I've accumlated in the short time I've been a stamper. Fortunately, my adult daughters are stampers too and will have a field day when I am called to that big stamping room in great beyond.
I guess I'm in the minority--my stuff has to pull it's own weight or out it goes. Like this year I jumped from one fall set to three--so the old one has to go. Obviously it wasn't fulfilling my fall needs, or I wouldn't have had to buy the other two, right? I try and stick with just one or two sets for every different purpose.
I would feel really bad, rather than "good", looking at thousands of dollars worth of stamp sets sitting on the shelves. Seems like a waste. JMO.
