do you take pics of your cards if you don't upload?
I was curious for those of you that do not upload, if you take pictures of your cards for a way to keep track of your art, remember great cards you have made, etc.
I am thinking of not taking any more pictures, except of something I really love and want to reproduce again. Yes, this would be a big decision, because it means I would not upload to SCS. I am still debating.
Basically, once I finish the card, I just want to be done with it. No setting up the shot. Pulling out my Ott lights, my white bristol board. I guess I don't have a very convenient photo studio. That may change when I get my new craft room and taking pictures becomes less of a hassle.
So, if you don't upload, do you or do you not take pics? And why??
I don't take photos of mine, I scan them which doesn't take much time and I can upload them from that. (I don't do it very often, but that's how I do it).
Would you consider doing that? I wouldn't want to miss seeing your work.

mmmm....I have a scanner, hadn't thought of scanning the cards, I am going to see if that is easier then taking a picture (I don't really have a place to take pictures, just put them on a chair with a white wall as background.)
I scan my cards and catalogue them. I keep the cased ones in a seperate folder and my original designs in another folder and then cards that people give me in another folder. I love having them on my computer to look back on and its easy to upload to SCS.
I take pictures of all my cards, even if I don't post them. Sometimes I decide to post them after all. I would regret it if I had no photos of my previous cards. I like to look back too.
I started taking pictures of my cards long before I even knew about SCS. It's great to see how my "skills" have progressed over the years. It's also fun to laugh at my cards I thought were cutting edge at the time. Plus, it helps me remember who I gave which card to so I don't duplicate a similar style the next time.
I scan all of the cards that I make (ok, MOST of the cards that I make). I am obsessive/compulsive about NOT sending the same card to people. And I sell cards, it's nice to be able to say, 'look at this, I used this color combination (or stamp image)...do you like it?' I have them organized in folders on my PC.
(YES, they would look nicer if they were photographed instead of scanned...when I have the time to make my own 'studio in a box' kind of thing, I will switch over to photographs)

It is fun to see how much my style (or papercrafting style in general) is influenced by trends/fads...
I take pictures of all my cards. I make for so many family members and friends that I don't want to send the same card to someone multiple times. I save the image with the person's name and the year in the file name. I have a separate folder for the cards I've uploaded to SCS. If I make a card for a challenge and then later send it to someone, I rename it and copy it to the "family and friends" folder.

Generally I don't take photos of my cards, unless I do something that I think is really knock-your-socks-off spectacular. I usually make only one of each card, sometimes up to 5 copies, but I prefer to give away something unique to people and just let it go. I take sooo many photos of my kids already!
I haven't uploaded to the gallery in awhile (have been making cards sporadically but not so happy with my cards right now!). But I still try to take photos. Maybe you can wait until you have made a few cards, then for 5 min take them by the window - instead of setting up your photo studio. I take mine during the day by the window. It doesn't have to come out as nicely as the ones you want to upload to the gallery.
I think it'll be nice to be able to look back on all the work you've created. Especially if you think - oh I gave that one to so and so... it's a nice memory to hold!
I take photos of the majority of my cards. I sell lots of cards and Ilike to look back at what I have sold to each person. That way I don't duplicate unless I want to. Also, when my "mojo" leaves me I can look at my photos and get ideas!
I scan or photograph everything now - I wish I did when I was beginning just as a record and when I speak over the internet to my close knit group of "cardies' and we talk about cards its easy to look them up and share with each other.
I would say at the least scan your work - it IS your portfolio of work - whether you are going through a phase or not.

I do take photo's of all my cards and store them in various files on my PC. I mainly do this to keep record of what I have made so I can see how far I've come (or not!!!). I also send out a ton of cards so this helps me keep track of what goes to who.
I occasionally upload to SCS when I have the time to do so (which isn't very often).
I would suggest to continue to take pictures, even if you only store them on your PC. I would hope that you continue to upload though - I always like looking at your gallery.

I either scan or take a photo of all mine. If there is a lot of glitter, or metallic, or just a lot of stuff on the card the scanner doesn't work so well, but most of the time, when you tweak the settings, it is fine. Sometimes it's a lot better than an average photo. I like looking back, sometimes you remember a technique you'd forgotten about or an idea that worked really well.
I think it would be a shame not to have a record of what you have done.
I like to take photos of my cards just in case there's a particular design I want to reuse and so I don't send the same card out to the same person again.
i take my photos to please my self.
I don't upload everything.
I'm too blind now to not have my ott lights out and open to even make cards so i just put white cardstock below and behind (up against the ink pad storage on desk top) i have two ott lights the little folding kinds on either side of a self healing mat on my main table, and so if i make a stack of cards, then i shoot them in a series too...
I have a scanner but, as someone whose cards are mostly lumpy that really takes away from the card (to me) to see it as a scan. plus my scanner has a mind of its own on colors...
I stand mine up on my windowsill in the morning and photograph that way. No set up, no special props required. Just need a little bit of daylight and even if it's a cloudy day the photos still come out well.
i DO take pics because i cant remember anything anymore thanks to my two rugrats, and its nice to look back and see if there was a card i really liked, i can redo it. i do plan on uploading here someday! really! i promise!
I take pics of my cards but I don't upload all of them. I take the pics to keep as a reference, especially if it's one I've given away. I may want to duplicate or CASE it one day!
I take pictures of every card I make, and I put them in a database. Then I can look up cards in a number of different ways, including by recipient. I like to see what I've given the person in the past, so I don't use the same stamps again.
Problem is, I'm not a very good photographer. You can check out my gallery and see that.

Before I started sharing my work online on a regular basis, I was scanning or photographing all of my cards. Before that, I was making 2 of each card and keeping one for myself to keep on hand to see where I've been and what I've done. The digital versions are so much easier to store.
I like being able to look back and see where I've been in my creativity.
Unfortunately, my digital "archives" only go back to 2003... and my file drawer of cards doesn't go back to when I first started stamping in 1996... I'd love to see some of my beginner cards...
I'm a little different. I try to make 2 cards exactly alike. One I put in a resealable sleeve to keep as reference and the other I give away. Have just decide to keep my copy is the SU case that I used, But thanks to everyone, before I do that I will scan it. Then if my computer dies I still have a copy.

If I don't take a picture of a card I made it means it was finished while my family was waiting for me in the car to go to the occasion for which the card is needed. I don't upload often because I view cropping etc a chore but when I get that stuff done I share all my cards (unless the photo is completely blurry ... although there is one blurry card in my gallery that I just loved how it was made that I shared the lousy pic anyway ... it even got some comments!)
Unless it is for a swap I generally only make one of a card. During Christams I might make 3-4 of the same card but not for each design. I usually send out about 60 cards but the most fun for me about cardmaking is getting the design in my head onto cardstock and paper. Once that's been accomplished I want to translate a new design. So, without photos I'd have no record of my progress (and occasional lack thereof ... some of my earlier work is better than my recent stuff but they were made "just playing" while most recent stuff is made for a specific purpose).
Not sure if my ramblings help or not but thanks for reading and ...
I've been taking photos of my cards since I started stamping about 5 years ago. I don't have a digital camera -- in fact I use my cellphone camera to take photos to upload to SCS, which come out just fine for this purpose. But for myself, I made my own print "catalog" out of one of those cheap brag-books at M's. I just lay the cards on my white tile bathroom floor and put all the lights on and take a picture. When I get the developed photos, on the back of each photo I write the month and year I made it, who I sent it to, and then the recipe. I like to look back on my earliest work and sometimes I can even get an idea from that simple stuff.

Yes I do. I started taking pics of them as soon as I started this hobby 6 years ago. I really don't remember why, other then just to have a copy filed away in case I wanted to create it again. And let me tell you if nothing else, it sure has been interesting (or hair raising!) to look back to the beginning every so often.
