Default Do you sell your creations?

I am wondering if you all sell your creations, if so, is it working out well? Do you do Etsy, use your blog, how do you go about selling them?

A while ago I used to sell on ebay - auction style. Most of them sold at starting price (3.99 each), but some ended for around $6, and a couple for around $10.

There is a whole thread here somewhere about selling the cards. I sell thousands a year and I mean THOUSANDS. It is a good second income for me and helps me support the the ministry of sending cards to the troops. I generally sell the cards for $3.00 each or 4 for $10.00. I supply TWO swim teams for fund raisers and they start with 1250 cards each. That is in Oct-Nov each year..this nets in the area of $5000 right around the holidays for gift giving so that alone is worth it to me. I have an Etsy account but never set up the shop because I am too busy everywhere else.
blessings.

wow...thousands? LOL i was so proud I sold a birthday card for $5. I made it for my college classmate's preacher, and I was just gonna do it for free, or a few cups of cafeteria coffee LOL. But I was glad to get paid, I am now a working artist!
I hear there is a lot of success if you sell your cards through say, your husbands office, or your kids preschool.... if you are allowed to.

Yea, my love isn't allowed to bring my things in to work, his area can't allow outside things into the space he's in. I don't have kids in public school, we homeschool. Not familiar with any fund raisers out there. Not a full time a member at a church. I am not sure where else I could sell them. hmmmmm!

flower shop? That's where I sell mine. I do pretty well there with about 50 sales a month. Keeps me busy considering I don't have a lot of spare time to make cards and my cards are usually pretty involved.

I would start asking around at local businesses though.. I have sold my cards on consignment in a number of different retail settings, and flower shops are always the most profitable..

I sell a few of mine at a craft fair in June and October. Our Garden Club has a booth and I put some in. Don't sell a lot but a few helps. I sell them for $2.50 or 3/$7.00

I sell to two swim teams for fund raisers...this is my biggest money maker. Then hubby has a basket on his desk that nets betweeen $75.00 and $125 PER WEEK. It is a big office. During holiday times or special occasions this basket nets much more than that. It all helps me support my cards for the troops project.
blessings.
Check out your local community center too..there is usually one group or another there that can use a fund raiser.

Can anybody point me to that thread? I'm just getting to a place where I'd love to start selling creations and I would love to read about others experiences and opinions!

TIA!

Think of anywhere in your area where someone would be buying a gift to give someone that should help.

Florists - like Tobi said
Gift shops
Gallery
Bridal shop
Local boutiques
Hairdressers
Barbers (for those guys that forgot a birthday/anniversary) ;)
Antique shops
Jewellers

Anything locally owned would be a good start - chains and franchises have to ask corporate if it is ok.

There are loads of different threads about selling

here's one - Forums at Splitcoaststampers

Just do a search (go advanced and type in selling and search general stamping section and it should give you relevant threads to look at)

Hi! I just started to sell my stuff in two places. My mom took a batch of 36 holiday cards to her office. After one day, she came home with 3. I also dropped the same number off at a local gift shop, but I have been too busy to go down there to see if they have sold. I thought about trying Etsy, but I am a little intimidated by it. Good luck!!

Your time is valuable, add up what it takes for the supplies to make the card, and then add at least min. wage for the time. If you aren't going to make any money for them I think it would be great to donate them to a worthy cause and there are plenty. But don't sell yourself short, I hate to see that. I say anything below 3.00 a card is really not showing a profit (unless it is ultra simple), if you value your time. Remember what Hallmark charges for a generic (not unique) card.... 3.99...4.99 ...5.99 even more...!

I don't sell the cards I create. I just enjoy giving sets of cards I create as gifts or "just because". It's more fun and I get more enjoyment out of it. I feel everything is not about making a dollar. If/when someone asks me to make them a set after seeing or receiving my cards, I do it gladly, but never ask for a fee or accept one.

Unfortunately, with the economy in the state that it is, for many people it is about making a dollar. I wish everyone was financially secure enough not to have to think about money, especially this time of year. Hoping for a better year for everyone in the New Year.
