When you are making birthday/anniversary/get well cards, etc. do you care if they are season appropriate? I have a hard time sending flower cards in January. On the other hand I wonder if my Dec/Jan birthday people get tired of snow themed cards. What do you do about the "proper" season??

I think a flower card can be sent any time of the year. But I do generally try to send cards more suited to the season. Leaves, jewel tones, etc. for fall birthdays. Soft colors, snowflakes, for winter birthdays. I don't mind receiving cards that are "out of season" though, as I'm sure most people don't.
The only season I worry about is summer-themed cards. This is the first year I have made summer cards because of DT stuff, and I would NOT give a surfer dude birthday card in december!!! But everything else? I don't care..........

One of my best friends, who lives in Holland, has her birthday in mid-January. Last year I made her a card using Spring Garden by SU, in very soft early-spring colors. She emailed specially to say she loved it so much because she never gets flower cards on her birthday.
Many times I make non-season cards. I love PTI's Guide Lines and Guide Lines II for this.

I am more likely to think of the recipient's personality than about the season. For instance.... my two sisters.... One gets beautiful flower theme cards because she is an avid gardener and a lover of beauty.
The other sister is so silly... she is likely to receive a crazy card.
I always thought if you had a birthday on Halloween or Christmas or something, everyone would always get you stuff for that holiday. That would get really tiresome, I would think.
In fact, my Grandma's birthday was just before Christmas and she used to complain that all she'd ever get was poinsettias, LOL!
For general cards like b'days and get well or sympathy cards I don't worry about the seasons at all but am more likely to make a card that reflects the receiver's interests.
For missing you or hello cards or cards to my daughter at college I am much more likely to do seasonally appropriate cards.

When making a general card such as birthday, anniversary, get well, etc. I don't use seasonal paper or stamps. I do have some SU dp from last year that I would use in the fall.

I have found that too that people - love it when you incorporate something of them or are outside of the box of what they would expect.
I have made a card to send to our dear Auntie who will be 81 next month. It's a dinosaur with cake card and we know she will love it because we have sent her the occasional cheeky card in the past and she just howled with laughter and had to show everyone. To top it off everyone thinks of her as very delicate and prim and proper! :mrgreen:
I don't worry about being seasonal. In fact, I know for sure that several people I send birthday cards to in December have a positive preference for non snowy wintery cards. One of them even has her unofficial birthday earlier in the year so that she gets nice cards and time to enjoy them.
If you lean to creating 'season-appropriate' cards, but want to get outside the lines a bit, how about using seasonal stamps with non-traditional colors?

I don't send 'season appropriate' cards, but I know that my cards tend to be seasonal in color, only because that where my mind is at the time. I find it hard to use pastel colors (i.e soft subtles) in the fall and winter and have a really tough time using earth tones in the summer (earth elements). So unless it is a baby card or something that HAS to be baby doll pink, if your birthday is in February, you will get a card that is a rich regal, 'cause that is where I am (and probably what I am wearing). Just one of those things I have learned about myself. I know, I am so weird.
Well...THAT would not work so well where I live coz it is HOT HOT HOT for 9 months of the year and the other three barely cools off .....for the last three years we have had like a fortnight of cool/cold weather...this year...just a few nights!
so I would be restricted to summer themes forever....I don't think so!

Last year, I posed a question here on SCS to see what people who had December birthdays thought about getting Christmas-winter cards. It was a mixed reaction -- some people didn't mind and some really wanted something else soooooo, the only thing I stay away from is snowflakes and Santa in July :>)
While I always appreciate any cards I get, I do believe I was born at the wrong time of year. My birthday is in November and I am really not into leaves and such. Maybe if they were in bright colors or had a cute saying to go with them, but the cards I receive are usually from people of a more serious nature so it is especially appreciated when someone sends me a card suited to my personality!
My Mother in Law was blessed with a Christmas Birthday, so I make a point to make sure that her birthday card has not one drop of winter on it. Other than that, I have never really taken the time to consider the season when I am stamping, just hasnt occurred to me.

I don't pay any attention at all to the seasons for things like birthday cards, thank you, get well, etc. I'm more likely to choose colors or stamps that I know the recipient will appreciate, or I just go with my favorite vintage look.
I generally don't tend to fit the card to the season unless I think it is appropriate for the recipient.
My main problem is once I start making Christmas cards I get addicted to all the glitter and sparkle and struggle to get the inspiration to make anything else until Christmas is over!

Tami, sounds like you should consider celebrating your half-birthday instead. . . .
That's a good idea. My birthday also falls right at deer hunting season. Guess which is at the top of my husband's priority list. lol He never forgets, but any celebrating must be planned around "the hunt"
