I was just wondering if anyone here keeps a inventory notebook of their stamps. Post pics of your notebook so we can all be inspired. I have a couple of questions.
1. Do you stamp them on cheap cardstock or use reg. paper?
2. What catagories do you use to organize?
3. Do stamp sets on 1 page or break them down ie: flowers in 1 sections,
sentiments in another?
Thanks

I stamped on regular printer paper, I typed out the name and # of stamps in the set...I put them in page protecters and in the binder alphabetically. i take out and add to as needed. On ones that are retired I have the universal sign for no or not...a red circle with diagnol line thru it
I must have an inventory (index) notebook, because all of my stamps are unmounted. I sorted some into large categories... flowers, animals & bugs, words & phrases, Christian symbols & scriptures. The rest I alphabetized... angels, babies, borders, cars, clowns and so on.
My index notebook is stamped on free paper (the backs of church music sheets) because every now and then I decide to rearrange and reprint some of the pages. I don't feel as bad about throwing it out since it is reused, recycled paper.
I'm working on getting mine together. I'm stamping on regular copy paper. Grouping by type - flowers, animals, etc. But also stamping like greetings together - thank you's, birthday, love, etc. It's quite a daunting task now that I have over 130 sets!! Gee, I should've started this earlier, huh!?
Dorinda I knew I had seen 1 in the gallery, but couldn't find it earlier. Looks great.
Wonder if I stamp on cardstock from Walmart & use the hole reinforcers if I could get away with not using page protectors. I'm afraid reg. printer paper would tear & wear faster.

I have one, but it's nothing too fancy. Stamped images on computer paper, used a 3hole punch, and put it in a 3ring binder. I have them grouped by image type- flowers, Christmas, Penny Black animals, sentiments, etc.
Thanks for the inspiration ladies! I just started stamping not too long ago, and I need to start this now before it (quickly) spirals out of control. =)
I use a smaller 3 ring binder (organizer size) It holds half sheets of cardstock. I stamp one set per sheet and then organize them by catagory and then by year. If I get rid of a set I just pull the sheet out and toss it.
I have mine in two binders, they all didn't fit in one! one for retired and one for current. I bought cardstock at sam's club 500 sheets for $6.00 and printed the name of the set on the top. then I stamped each image in a different color and then put them in alphabetical order. when I did have them in one binder, I took the "R" from the rough edges alpha and stamped it in the upper right corner so I could easily flip throug my book and see what was retired!
Hey All ~
I use a regular three ring binder, stamp my sets on plain computer paper and put them in sheet protectors. The pages aren't really organized, they're just in the order I purchased them! I do have a section for holiday stamps and non SU stamps. I also stamp samples of all my ink colors. I have the sketch challenges in there and directions for different techniques, templates, etc. It's great to have everything all together in one binder. I love my binder almost as much as I love my catty!
I don't have any pictures of mine and my book is too big to scan. DH is gone for a couple of days training and has the camera so I can't pics but I will try to remember later to take pics of mine. But here is what I did... I stamped all of my sets on to cheap cardstock and numbered them in the book: set 1, set 2, set 3, etc. I had started out by having them in categories i.e. Christmas in one area, flowers in another etc. but I keep getting new sets and with my numbers system doing it that way just doesn't work well for me. So they are just in there. I did seperate them according to stamp company though. My SU sets just have numbers, my TAC sets have T-1, T-2, etc. and my Missy B sets have M-1, M-2 and so on. So then once I was finished with the book part I took a small sticker and I attached it to each actual set on my shelf and put the number that corresponds with the number in the book. So when I want to stamp all I have to do is look at the book and then go get the set I want rather then standing in front of my stamps for forever and a day. I find it much easier this way. The book that I used is just a three ring binder and all the pages are in page protectors. I hope that all made sense. It's late so my brain isn't working right. lol

I don't yet, but it is getting to the point where I have to. Have so many SU sets and other misc single stamps that I cannot remember them all and it is taking too long to look through them all every time I want to find something.

No I don't have a book of all of my stamps. I wish that I had started one when I only had a few stamps and than just added them as I bought them. I have way too many stamps now to record them. I would have to spend a great deal of time on a project like that. Is there a reason why I should do it? If I should I sure would like to know why from those of you who do record your stamps.
I've been meaning too---just such a large job!!!! I don't keep my stamps in their boxes, Ihave them out on trays separated by group(flowers, birthday, sentiments...) So, It would be really good for me to have a picture of the whole set somewhere. Maybe, a good winter project...;)
My dh made a worksheet in Excel for my stuff.. There's a column for the stamp sets, ink pads/markers/refills, then one for the accessories (brayer, stencil etc...) it is great! He even color coded it so that I could be able to tell in moments if a friend had borrowed anything (each friend has a diff color) or if the set is retired. HTH
I'm brand new to this, but my demonstrator told me to scan the sticker sheet before I mount my stamps so that I can use it as an index. I plan to purchase a ring binder with sheet protectors and file by category in that.
Hehehe....can't wait until I have enough stamps to really *need* an organizer
;)
I break mine down by category: get well, thank you, birthday sentiments, flowers, backgrounds, animals, fall, Christmas, etc. If you are just starting one and don't want to stamp and clean so many stamps you can always just place the stamps themselves on a scanner side by side and hit the button! My book is very useful when trying to mix and match images and see what will look good together. It's also useful to see which images will fit on an oval or square for example. One of my sections is for punches. I just punch them out and tape or glue them in.
I have a computer program that has a complete inventory of *every* item I have! Everything!
Then I have a 4" x 6" index cards for each set or single stamps. They are in 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" clear snap boxes by manufacturer, in alphabetical order. This takes up a very small amount of space and I don't have to pull out binders to find something, I just thumb through the index cards!

Since my binder was not updated for a couple of years, I duplicate my record-keeping: I have a Word document list (which is the most accurate) and a binder w/ the images. I now make two copies of the sticker sheet that comes w/ each stamp set. One is trimmed and kept in the box w/ the stamps and one is placed in the binder. For non-SU stamps (like a muse) I have a sheet for various sections where I stamp similar-themed images
To answer your questions:
1) I use regular paper. Seems to work great.
2) I organize using the same sections as the catalog.
3) I do not break up the stamp sets by image - the binder is easy enough to flip through when I want to "browse."
I like the idea of the computer program inventory but...I also like my binder for the purpose of easily looking at my sets that I have without going to the drawers and literally going thru them by hand. The binder has multi-uses..I am visual so I need to see my images, not just the names of them. I may do the excell type also to have a good print inventory...but my visual inventory is my binder
I also need to get a binder going--I have the binder, the blank sheets as well as the protectors, but nothing on them yet.
BUT, I have started to print out the SCS "index" sheets in the gallery from many of the SU stamp sets that I have. That way I have all of the stamps in the set and won't have to stamp them myself. Some of the older sets I have are not indexed yet, so those are the ones I will need to stamp myself.
Just another thought............................Barb
I don't have one yet, but I'm getting things organized so that I can do a binder. I have sheet protectors from the 99 cent store, and I plan to use paper instead of cardstock. Also, I have many sets that are scanned so I will use those as far as they go, and stamp the rest. This would probably take the rest of my life if I tried to do it by myself, but I'm blessed with good friends who have offered to come over and help me with it. It will be so nice to know what I have and where it is! I'm going to use plastic storage containers, numbered by container, and number on the stamp set so it can be found, used, and returned so I can find it again next time. Oh, how I wish I had started this five years ago.
SuzyQue, just gettin' ready to make my binder!
I have not made one yet but I do have a database on my computer with what sets I currentlly own... I have been debating on making a notebook with the stamps sets stamped into it... just haven't found the time to do it yet.
I do the same thing Deb had mentioned. When I get a new stamp set, I made a copy of the sheet of stickers on my printer. I have a 3 in one printer and for stamp sets that have already been put together, I place the stamps on the scanner and make a copy of them. It's a lot easier than hand stamping each one.
I just print on regular copy paper and put them in page protectors.
I have them all alphabatized by stamp set. I started sections of like Christmas, baby, flowers, ect. But I got behind on it and don't really plan on catching up!
I also have a section in my binder where I print off my favorite tutorials from, of course, SCS. It's neat to have them there for quick referance.
And the other section is for inspiration sheets I have collected.
It's growing a lot faster than I expected so I'm going to have to get a new binder!
Hope this helps and good luck on creating yours!
I can't send a picture because I don't have a digital camera, but I think I can describe it. I use old, cheap card stock that was being thrown at work to stamp each image on. I write the name of the stamp set at the top of the page, then stamp each individual stamp - sometimes I can get two or three sets on a page. I sort them alphabetically, with a separate section for Christmas and put each page into a page protector and then into a 3-ring binder.

Mine isn't fancy, got the idea from my upline. I am using CS that is similar to Whisper White (but it isn't WW). I came up with a template that has the vital stats of the set like item number, where it is from (which catty), page number, section, theme, price, number of stamps, and sets that are obvious matches to it. Then I print it and then I stamp it. I am in the process of redoing everything because I don't like the way I did it originally. I stamped everything in black and it just looks rather horrid. I am now restamping everything in different colors to make it more cheerful. Also- I wasn't keeping up with it so I have a lot of catching up to do. I 3-hole punch the pages and then put into a binder.
I have grand plans for the binder. I want to put other reference materials in there like which colors go with each ribbon since they aren't named the same and also which colors are in the designer papers, an example of the punches, examples of all the colors, etc. I plan to bring it to WS when I have them (which isn't often) but I have a lot of work to get there.

BTW The only categories I have are "current" and "retired" really. Everything is alphabetical. I don't seperate out by theme or anything. But maybe that will change later, but I doubt it.

I make mine pretty fancy. I use a 4.25x5.5 piece of card stock, I print the stamp set name and number of stamps in the set, on the top left corner. I then stamp all the samps on the card stock and decorate the paper. On the back I write or print the names of the different inks I used. then I put them in a photo album. Right now I don't have too many so I don't organize by style or anythign like that. This way I get to see the stamps and have a sample of the different inks.
I can definately see how this might be too much work to do if you already have a lot of stamps. I started from the get go, so I find it not too bad. It gives me an oppertunity to play with each new stamp set I get - right away!
I have decided to go with cardstock from Walmart to stamp the images on. Then I am going to use some of this huge mountain of Bazzill cs I have & make dividers for each catagory and I'm going to use some of my Basic Grey paper to decorate a 3 ring binder (which I have a ton of lying around). I want it to look pretty on my shelf in my little space & I need it too be useful & easily accessed when I go shopping.
Maybe then I won't buy multiples of stuff I already have. IF I use categories instead of alphabetically I can find things for specific cards like masculine, etc. I have a lot of individual stamps & other companies sets so alphabetically won't work for me anyway.
I'll make sure to post a pic when I'm through.

I don't have an updated inventory, but just this year I went to the Stampin' Up website and printed off the sets that I have from the online catalog. If you click on the picture, then choose larger picture, it brings up just the stamp images (and not the card ideas). It only works for the current sets, but heh, it saved me a lot of time stamping each one! I have also copied the stickers before putting my set together. Both work well.

That's what I did. Then I put the sheet in a page protector and file them (alphabetically) within the same categories as the SU catalog. I'm starting to stamp my individual (non SU) stamps and putting them at the end of each category. I think I need a bigger ring binder though!

I do the same thing as Deb. I actually make 2 photocopies of the sticker sheet. One I cut out to size to place in the stamp box, and the other I put in sheet protectors and keep in a binder. I don't have them sorted by any particular type because I don;t think I have more than 30 sets right now. But it sure helps to flip through the pages to see what I have so I don't have to go through all the sets.
I haven't read through all the posts so I hope that I am not duplicating info. I have two smaller 3-ring binders. One has all of my stamps, inks, markers, pens and envies inventoried and the other one has everything else: quikutz, sizzix, coluzzle templates, punches, tools, snips of ribbon, idea books, embellies etc. I have many stamps and inks besides SU!, so I use categories to keep track of them. When I get a stamp or a set of stamps, I stamp them in every category in which they fit (ie. a chick might fit in animals and Easter). Most of the time I also stamp the whole set together also. I always label each stamp with all info so I know exactly what set it came from or who the manufacturer is, etc. It takes very little time. I also run white paper through my zyron and rub my ink pads on them . After they dry I punch them out in a square if full size, a smaller square if a mini. If it is a cat eye, I just press that to the paper and trim around it. The spots I usually just press directly into my book. I always take these books with me when I shop. I can perfectly match up ribbon, paper, and ink or any embellishment with anything I have and I don't end up with duplicates. My system has been working great for me for years.
