I know a lot of us are bemoaning we have too much ribbon! LOL
Whether you stopped or are still using ribbon...do you have a favorite kind? Is it use specific like for bows or for holiday? (ie Christmas) Are you a dots/stripes fan? Glitter edges?
I'll start...I'll admit it-I still love ribbon. I have more than I should. That started before I started making cards though.
I have a mixed bag b/c at first I was price driven and I have old stuff, some from my mom. But now I am really liking how sheers look on cards in the gallery so when I work my stash down I think I would go after that. Esp the sheer shimmers.
I like dots and stripes and sometimes glitter...oh! I like satins too.....
I love them all. I was a floral designer in one of my lives and still have hundreds of bolts of all kinds. Lately on cards, I have been favoring cords as they mail so flat, but still add interest while not taking away from the focal image AND they are new to me.
With the adaptive use of the fork bow, I Find myself loving a bow addition to a card. Before, I just bought and hoarded the ribbons. Gift packaging is a whole other story. I use tons of ribbon in any way I can.
I love seam binding. Got got some amazing bargains at a local thrift store. Rolls of 100 yards of different colors. 10 a roll! I bought all the colors they had. Recently when they get seam binding the price is higher for smaller rolls. I think someone realized its value, to me at least! I love 1/8" and 1/4" ribbon too. I rarely use anything wider. Love black gingham ribbon! I had hundreds of rolls before I cleared out my stash! I also like twines....maybe I should have just listed what I don't use, which is 2" or wider.....unless....LOL
Definitely seam binding. I love how it feels and ties, how soft it looks, and how I can crinkle it or leave it smooth. I am so sad SU! is retiring their line of it. I have a few colors left but I know I will use them up soon. My mom went to an estate sale awhile back and got me a bag of sewing notions for pennies that I love to use on projects - seam binding, lace, buttons, empty wooden thread spools, etc. Fun stuff!
I like it all but lately twine as been my favorite. I got a bunch of May Arts 1 mm twine from Amazon and love it so much. My son gave me such a hard time since I got 6 different colors and it really will last me the rest of my life but I love it. My daughter got married a couple weeks ago and I used the twine on boxes we made for the guest to take home from the reception and I still have a bunch but at 400 yards per roll it goes for ever.
Gee I am not familiar with seam binding! I will have to go the notions store and check that out one day! I am off to see if I can find some pictures...
Well that didnt take long! I found a nice one from the Frugal Crafter who shares with us how to color/crinkle your own. She is using the same brand a tutorial about seam binding for sewing cited too. And a suggestion of a much cheaper way to color it.
Not totally sheer but definitely looks very light weight.
I bookmarked it so when I am ready I can get some.

I stil love and use ribbon! I may not use it as much, but that's probably because I haven't been making tons of cards.
I can say the one ribbon I don't like is seam binding. It is just to unruly for me. I can never tie a good bow with it. I do like how it looks tho!
I'm big into twine still.
I like 1/8", 3/8", & 1" the best. I've never used the really wide ribbon I have. I like sparkly ribbon, lace, specially, and stitched ribbon too!
Here's about 3/4 of my ribbon stash. I have green, blue and purple in another case. Looking at it to take this picture just made me fall in love
with them all over again!
My ribbon is about 98% SU.
I don't plan on stopping ribbon use anytime soon! But I do see some in there I want to get rid of!

I love ribbon. I have a stash but luckily not too much. But... I never seem to be use it. Why? Maybe because my bow always looks weird. Maybe I don't use to use my "good stuff"
Totally random thought now. What if we had a "new use" every month. And everyone is encouraged to use ribbon / brads etc. a lot that month.
And since I have been random rambling --- might as well keep going --I wish I had someone who lived close to me. I want to learn how to do the challenges / participate in swaps etc.

I was just thinking the other day, why oh why do I have all this ribbon? I think a lot of it was because it was in clearance on SU. And I fell for that. I really like polka dot ribbon and how it looks on a card. Another vote for black and white gingham as Kathy mentioned. Lately I am into twine, especially the May Arts twines available in all different colors.
I LOVE ribbon and have bows on most of my cards. My favorite is PTI satin and I was very sad when they stopped doing it for their new cardstock colors. I have lots and lots and lots of ribbon
mainly I think my most favorite are sheer's ( all widths, all colors)
followed by seam binding. and crinkle silks.
I don't really use the patterned grosgrain's ( I tie more knots than bows and grosgrain is harder to tie in a clean flatter knot than the thinner sheers)
Seam binding for me also. I only buy white, then color coordinate by using my Copics. Plus I love using my reinkers and shimmer sprays to make crinkle ribbon. And I love the May Arts button twine - I have it in 400-yd rolls in rustic and natural.
Plus I bought the Cheery Lynn ribbon dies; I just realized I have no need for regular ribbon at all anymore! Very freeing, so I'm getting rid of it!

Copperkids...reading your post made me decide to put in my 2 cents! LOL I LOVE ribbon...I LOVE bows! PERFECT BOWS!!! How?? By using the 10 Second bow maker. Seen here [URL="[url]I had my husband make me one and I have madex a ton of bows and love how each one turns out.
BTW my favorite ribbons are the sheers.
Seam binding ribbon is fantastic--SU! HAS discontinued its whole line of it, but you can probably still buy some that is left. The cost is $7 for 10 yards and it comes in 6 colors plus white. Two colors, Pink Pirouette and Whisper White, are discounted 40% off the $7 price. You can see what the ribbon looks like in the current SU! catalog on page 159--and check out all the other ribbon, much of which is also being discontinued this year. To see a catalog, go to www.stampinup.com.
I am not a ribbonist ;)...I do not discriminate against any type of ribbon, slim, wide, shiny, glittery, colour, texture, polka dots, plain, stripped you name it I have it!
I have them wrapped around 1 1/2 inch square pieces of card kept in place by hair bands and stored in drawers by colour group.
However my ribbon is like my DSP....I don't want to cut into it because it is tooooooooo pretty lol!
When it comes to paper crafting I prefer ribbon around 5/8" -3/4" width as it's easier to tie into a bow. I generally reach for sheer organza or seam binding in single colour. I don't own much printed/patterned ribbon.
Since I discovered how economical it is to use Snug Hug Seam Binding, it has become my favorite. Because I do craft shows, the 100 yard spool suits my needs. Shorter length yardage is available via the internet. White and cream are my go-to colors...use as is or add inks or sprays to customize colors. On occasion, I do use ribbons with more body...seems to provide a more modern look. Ribbons always elevate my projects to a more sophisticated level.
I use seam binding ribbon mostly. I get my ribbon from stampsimply.com as she has so many selections and colors! it is inexpensive as well. I save my coffee cozies from Starbucks and use them to wrap each ribbon on them! I tape the one end down with some washi tape and then wind. It save space too as they can be stored flat or up.
I have tons of silk ribbon from when silk ribbon embroidery was all the rage; I need to dig that out and use it!

After making the mistake of buying a bunch of different ribbon, I've learned that I'm picky about what I use. No, I'm not a ribbon snob. Turns out I like the cheap stuff. (good for me!)
I love using a good ol' cheap-o grosgrain. I especially like the 1/2" grosgrain with polka dots and dash-stitches. It comes it a ton of colors, is opaque and gives great color and texture to papercrafted items.
I don't care much for organza ribbon. It's too sheer for my taste. And I've learned that I hate wide ribbon with the wire edges. Yes, it's great for holding its shape, but I never make big bows.
I sometimes use satin-like ribbon, though it's not my favorite. I do like the super narrow satin ribbon for tiny bows. And I use a fork to make those. Here is an example I found on Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/299700550179346769/
Not sure it's been mentioned yet, but some white ribbon (and seam binding) can be colored with Copic markers. I'm too lazy to do this, but I've seen others do it with great results.
I love ribbon---all widths, all colors, all sizes, all types! Attached is my ribbon storage, so you can see how much I have, but I do not horde it, I use it. I find I miss the shear stuff SU used to make. The colors were great and it was so pliable so it tied really nice. Cheap stuff from the store doesn't tie well. I love to make bows and have a DH-made bow maker that I designed. I mostly like solid colors, stripes, dots and plaids. Did I mention I really like ribbon?
Sheer organza is my favourite. I also like satin and grosgrain ribbon if it's really thin. I use a lot of baker's twine and gold or silver cord, as well. I can't tie a good bow to save my life, so I got a bowdabra, and now my bows are gorgeous.

Wow-I am very impressed and jealous! lol. What ribbon racks are those?
Now, don't laugh, but I made them out of plastic guttering. I had DH cut them to size, put the caps on the ends, drilled holes through the back and attached them to the back of my door with Command Strip Hooks. The clothes pins with small scraps of ribbon wound around them are slipped on two pieces of acrylic held upright in slots in a piece of wood. I glued magnets on some ends, to hold a magnetic clip, for some odd pieces of ribbon one always seems to have. Let me know if any of this doesn't make sense and I'll try again to explain. It is a really cheap systems that hold LOTS of ribbon.
Laughing? I am busy looking it with a mag glass. I think it rocks! I'm trying to decide what I can put on the back of my door b/c that's valuable real estate.
How are you holding the regular rolls in place? a dowel or they just sit in there and stay put?
I admit to having a lot of ribbon, unfortunately I don't use it a often a I should. Time was when I had a coupon from Mike's, I would use it for ribbon if could not find something to use my coupon for. Well it's not perishable, and it will still be waiting for me to come visit that bin.

Actually they just stay in place. That's the beauty of it. You can just take out the roll you need without disturbing any of the others. That way I can take what I need to my work table and simply return it when I'm done. They are arranged my version of RGBIV as are all of my colored supplies and separated by type of ribbon---metallic, organdy, satin, grosgrain, cloth---so I can put them right back where they belong. I hung the guttering upside down because the ribbons showed better than with it right side up, but the ridge of plastic holds them in just fine. I rewound all my ribbons onto ~3" spools if they were on some other size so they would all arrange better. I'm attaching a side view to give you a better idea.
