I find checking the tracking on my packages to be great material for a stand up comedy routine.
I have a package coming from Amazon. On Dec 5th it was in Melrose Park Ill which is 69 miles south of my house. An hour and 20 minute drive.
But instead of sending it north, on Dec 10th they sent it to Crestview Florida and today Dec 13th it is in Pensacola Florida . Me thinks they need to give the mail routing team a map of the USA LOL

Maybe it's their ploy to get you to join Amazon Prime. Free two-day shipping, and it gets here every time! I do keep track of packages from other places, though. I've had several boxes go completely missing, so I'm a bit paranoid now...
Airlines do this, too (really circuitous routes), to make sure you fly through one of their "hubs". Whatever happened to direct flights? I know - they still exist. You just have to pay triple to get one...
Being in Australia and ordering from overseas can just be too scary tracking my parcels so I just sit and wait and when we hit 4 weeks I start nagging. So far no loses but I did have one order from England where the first shipment disappeared, they sent a replacement. That arrived 3 weeks later so thats 7 weeks okay then the first lot arrived a week later.....wonder where it was for those 8 weeks???
I placed 2 orders with Amazon on Thursday. I had some things that I needed to get sooner than others, so I was willing to pay for 2-day shipping for one of the orders (not a Prime member). The second order I opted for free shipping, which would be here by the 20th.
When I got up this morning and went downstairs to let the dog out, there sat my package on my front porch. Not only was my first order there and complete, but 4 out of the 6 items from my second order were included. I rec'd an email that the remaining 2 items should be here Monday. Upon checking the tracking on my second package just now, it is here in town, and if not delivered by 8 p.m. tonight, will be delivered on Monday.
Wonderful service... it feels great to receive it and then be able to relate a good experience.
Barbara Jay, I hope your package finds its way home soon!

I do check the tracking, but just about everytime it has to go through the post office I get paranoid. Once it's on the mail truck, it gets lost. I have no idea where the carrier put them.
I'm really bad about stalking my packages when they get shipped. What I think is funny, is I live in western Ky. Packages come into the hub in Louisville, go east to Lexington, and THEN get shipped back west. Must make some kind of sense to UPS, but none to me!
I must agree that the postal service is getting a bit lax. A card from Ohio to Alabama took a week and half and one took two weeks to reach me from California. I had a package go to NC that mysteriously disappeared. No info even with tracking number. I called for help and they kept giving me more numbers to call after researching and finding it missing. The odd part is the recipient got it. The new website for USPS is terrible.
