I noticed a lot of people trying to sell and/or trade stamps sets that they state are mounted but never used. Do you always mount your stamps when you get them or do you wait until you are actually going to use them. I am just wondering this because the stamp sets seem to have a higher trade or sell value when they are unmounted. I am curiouse to see your answers. Thanks.
I have to admit that I always mount my stamps as soon as I get them. I don't know, I guess it's just the thrill of a new toyand I have to sit there and mount them all!! I can't imagine not doing it that way!!
I also always mount my sets the day I get them, even if I don't plan to use them right away, because that way they're ready to go when I want to use them!
Yes, I too have noticed on eBay that unmounted sets have a higher value than those than are mounted but unused. I think this is likely because most people prefer to mount the sets themselves, to their liking. I know this holds true for me - if I'm on eBay looking for a set I really want I'll bid on the unmounted one before I'll bid on the mounted but unused one because I am *very* picky about how my stamps are mounted!

I always mount my stamps as soon as possible -- not just because of the thrill of getting new stamps, but also because you only have 90 days to return them if there's a defect and sometimes you can only see that something's wrong when you go to use them. I've seen a couple of threads lamenting that a stamp set sat unmounted for several months and only once the exchange deadline had passed did they discover the problem. Sometimes the set has since retired, and once the warehouse stock is all gone you're out of luck and have to hope one shows up for sale here or on eBay! :(

I mount mine as soon as I get them. The ones on Ebay usually are new so thats why they aren't mounted yet. The older ones are usually mounted and gently used. They are just ones that people don't use or want anymore.

I answered the poll "No", but then I really read what you meant. See, I don't mount my stamps because I don't use the wood blocks, but when I get new sets, I do immediately do what I do to incorporate the sets into my system. So really, my answer should have been yes...because if I don't then the set would never get used

It always varies with me. At this moment, I have been mounting as i go along. At first, I was mounting them when I first got them, but now, I buy so many at a time, I would be there for days mounting before I got to use the one or two from the set I wanted to use!

I voted no, though about it, and should have voted yes, sort of...I usually mount the stamps that I order right away, sometimes the hostess sets may sit unmounted for a while...I have very few that I've actually picked out and then haven't mounted...
I always mount right away as well. There's just something about a new toy that makes me want to use it at the first available moment! Also, Row4d made a good point about checking for defects before the return period lapses. I guess I never thought about that.

I almost always mount mine as soon as I get them-cause I can't wait to use them. And I mounted about 10 sets for a friend because I just couldn't stand to see them unmounted and unusable. (Some of them are even retired sets!) I just enjoy stamping too much to not have them "ready to go."

I usually mount mine when I need to use the set. Most of my alphabets are not mounted unless I needed that particular letter for a layout. Just recently I've been mounting the new sets I've been getting though just so I can use them immediately. Tell you the truth I hate to mount them. I love getting the ones on e-bay already mounted so I don't have to do it and can just play as soon as they come in the mail. I guess my time is limited with the triplets and mounting is not fun.
My husband laughs at me when an order comes in. He knows that I will mount stamps before I even go to the bathroom. We were getting ready to move 2 years ago and I had a party the week prior. Wouldn't you know that when the order arrived we had boxes everywhere so I sat in the front hall of our house and seperated the order and delivered it and then sat on the floor in the hall and cut my stamps. If I didn't do it right then, I wouldn't have been able to do it for a couple of weeks, and that was unacceptable. Besides, we needed the box to pack things into!
I always mount mine the minute I get them. I may not use them for a while, but it's the thrill of getting something new that drives me! My demo will only mount the stamps she is going to use, so I get her boxes full and do hers too...lol
I usually end up with a blister on my middle finger from the pressure of the scissors if I don't remember to put a bandaid on first.
I said "YES" but I do have one unmounted set. I mount them pretty quickly 99% of the time soon after I get them. I don't wait & do them when I'm ready to use them.
I used to mount each set the minute I got it, but then over time I realized there were some sets I had that I was wanting to trade/sell and had never even used. I also realized that UM sets had a higher value, and ever since then I mount everything just before I use it. That way if I end up not using it, it's still UM if and when I go to sell/trade it...

Ditto!
