I just spent over an hour going through the process of accepting two blog awards. I am very flattered that someone enjoys my blog, but they can get very time consuming! Do you accept them all or do you decline?
I decided some time ago to "opt out" of blog awards. If someone gives me one, I leave a comment on their blog to say "thanks for thinking of me" and explain why I decided to opt out. I'm very cautious about what personal information I publish online and almost all awards seem to ask you to state a certain number of interesting facts etc. I understand it's in the spirit of people getting to know each other better but I'm just ultra-cautious online, I guess!
I think the whole idea behind blog awards is very tacky. Many are designed to promote a companies products or give you a $5 gift certificate if you get 5 friends to post it on their blogs. So I'm not getting a award, I am just being used for free advertising. Also seems like a chain letter type promotion. I always opt out of blog awards.
I've only received one, but it took a long time to fulfill the requirements. I honestly think I will have to decline if I ever get offered another one. They are time consuming.
Thanks ladies, I feel the same way about them. I'm very flattered that someone likes my blog enough to leave me an award, but yikes, after a while the people on my blog list would get sick of me giving them awards everytime I get an award, lol.
I accepted them when I first started blogging. Now I just have to opt out because I just don't have the time for it. The two I received recently I just quietly ignored. I hope that isn't rude.
I will email/PM to say *thank you but I hope you won't mind if I don't take it*. Some people know me well enough to say up front that they think I won't take it but if I would like to, here it is... .
I accepted the first two I received, but I do believe that from now on I will e-mail the person and politely decline it. It is very flattering but who makes those awards up anyway??

I did the same thing with the last 2 that were offered to me. I'm with you and hope they didn't think it was rude.
you know I usually go to the person's website and thank them as I work full time and barely have time to slip into a pair of loafers.
but several years ago when blogs were sort of new, Debbie Olson (aack) accepted one of these awards and listed me as a blog fave and really, that gave me most of my readers. If memory serves me, I think Julie Ebersole did the same thing for me.
so if you have the time and are so inclined, sometimes it is just a very sweet thing to do to highlight blogs that don't get a lot of traffic, even if it isn't related to an award.

I was excepting them in the beginning, but now it is to much and asking for to much info. I also hate giving them out to people who has already received so many and may not want them. I feel like I am imposing on my blogger friends by naming them. So I was leaving them emails telling them they would not hurt my feelings if they do not except Many did not want them .

I usually accept the awards and even answer the necessary questions. But I never pass them on. Most of the blogs I would pick to send the award to have already received them (well before me!) anyway.
I don't think it's rude to decline. Let's face it, they are hardly prestigious awards are they, lol. Just badges dumped off from one blogger to another. they are a pain and should be banned. I was made up with my first one as i thought it was a real award, now i just think oh please not again.
