Do many stampers do both stamping and scrapbooking?
Scrap and Stamp Arts magazine each month features a top artist that does a scrapbook page and corresponding card with directions. There is also an interview of the artist. The mission of the magazine is to show that if a crafter scrapbooks she can do cards with the same materials. If she does cards, she could make a scrapbook page. In other words, she could do both and not one exclusively. What do you think? Do many do both or do they do only one?
I do both but probably over half my customers will do just one or the other. I think for most people they only have so much time and they want to spend that time doing what they really love.

i do both. started out as a cardmaker, and got into scrapbooking after my kids were born. scrapbooking was really intimidating for me. i tried to start thinking about it as one large card front and that helped me. most of my customers do both, actually!
I started off doing scrapbooking without stamps, and then when I started stamping I used my stamps for both. To be perfectly honest, I don't understand the cards only/scrapbooks only concept anymore. To me they're both the same - paper crafting. I could never give either one of them up.

I do both. I started out as a scrapbooker and when I became a SU demo I started making cards. I love to do both and can use the same materials for cards that I use for scrapbooking. I did have a hard time thinking up smaller designs for cards when I first started and not trying to put too much on the smaller space.
I don't do scrapbooking at all. I'm old fashion and see a scrapbook as something with pictures in little corner pieces in it and little notes jotted down telling who is in the picture, when it was taken and how old the people are. Today's scrapbook is more embellishment than focus on the pictures in my opinion.
I do only cardmaking and making embellished boxes and a few other items as far as paper crafting goes.
I've seen the magazine another poster is referring to that people claim you can do both in similar fashion. I disagree. I see them as 2 very different things.
I do both. I use my stamps as embellishments on my pages and make my own BG papers with stamps, etc. I think it's a pretty economical way to scrapbook instead of buying letter stickers and wasting half a package once all the E's are gone, I use my alpha stamps.
I also make plenty of cards.
Check out my gallery for scrapbooking examples with lots of stamps.
i find it SO WEIRD that there are people out there that have never used their card-making supplies/talents to do scrapbook pages..
i disagree with Patti and her statement that cards and scrapbooking are two different things, because when i sit at my table, i use IDENTICAL supplies for both kinds of projects.. that goes for alterables too.

I started out scrapbooking after my daughter made me a wonderful wedding album with Creative Memories after she became a consultant. I never thought I wanted to do it, but I do love it.
My step daughter and step-daughter-in-law are both SU consultants, and therefore I do card making also.
When I'm doing the scrapbooking, I love it, when i'm doing the card making, I'm loving that too!
I made each of my daughters a scrapbook from when their dad and i got married to about 5 years old. (Took me 1 year to do 2 of them!!) I was hoping to get their whole life done for Christmas. I didn't realize how time consuming it was going to be. So maybe this year I can get another 5 years done!!
I use a lot of my scrapbooking paper for my cards. I don't use a lot of my stamping stuff for scrapbooking, but I sure could. The tools are all interchangeable though!!

I'm with jksteiber. I started out scrapbooking, and one day when I needed a card for someone, I made one. It never occurred to me that I was doing something different.
I got started because I saw my cousin's scrapbook she did for her wedding. That was all I had to go on so when I went shopping, I bought stamps and inks as if it was a common part of scrapbooking.
I think if I had taken some structured scrapbooking classes, I might think differently about stamping and cardmaking. I'm glad I started out completely on my own, and so didn't have any rules to follow.
I later discovered that my cousin primarily makes cards (100's every year), but she makes scrapbooks for special occassions. I still refer to myself as a scrapbooker even though I make more cards lately, and have really gotten into altering things.
I only make cards. I never had much interest or time for scrapbooking. And while I agree they use a lot of the same stuff, a 4.25 x 5.5 card front is a whole lot easier to deal with than a 12 x 12 page.

I started out scrapbooking and I only bought my first stamps with the express idea I would use them in my scrapbooks. I learned to make cards because that is what most people at SU parties want to do and moved to card making, too. I continue to scrapbook whenever I get the chance, but it is usually just 3 to 4 times a year over a long weekend or retreat. I think I am much better at cardmaking now and my scrapbooks are much simpler! Joining scrappin' swaps has really helped me a lot!
It is fairly easy to move between the two crafts, I feel! Yesterday I found a scrappin' kit I decided I wouldn't need for my own scrapbooks and made 32 quick cards with it instead!

I love both and don't have enough time for either one. I started out scrapbooking then got into stamping and card making. Have to say that for me a lot of the tools and ideas are interchangable...I think I am a better scrapper now that I stamp (at least a more creative one!)

I do both! I started out just making cards and then got into scrapbooking later! I am much more efficient at making cards then I am scrapbook pages!LOL! Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed with a big sheet of 12 x 12 paper! I have to think differently when scrapbooking than when cardmaking! I love to use my stamps when I scrapbook though! I love both, but for different reasons, I guess!
Years ago when I did folk art and decorative painting, the one surface I never liked to paint on was picture frames. I felt that the artwork on the frame "took away" from the picture; and vice versa. I wasn't able to focus on or enjoy either element. And that is my perception of scrapbooking as well. I just don't think that photos mix well with all the embellishments of a scrapbooked page. I know I am probably in the minority with this way of thinking! I do love to make cards though....
I do both. I started out as a card maker...then became an SU demo. Now I scrapbook...but I stamp in my scrapbooks. I find my scrapbooks to be overwhelming though...because I'm trying to break 25 years of family albums into 5 children album...plus a 6th for me. So I still tend to prefer card making...and always resort to cardmaking when I need a breathe of fresh air!!!
i do both every wednesday a group of us meet at lunch time over our creative memory friend she has a whole craft room set up we scrapbook from 12 til we order supper out once a month we have a stamping up party and every 3 months we have a close to my heart party we go on weekend retreats 2 or 3 times a year
Definitely disagree that they are separate entities. Also disagree with the blanket statement that all scrapbooks are too embellished- mine are definitely focused on the photos.
I also do both. I started out scrapbooking and realized that ALL of the same supplies were used for card making. (Why not get my monies worth?) In the beginning I only bought SU sets that I could be used for both scrapbook pages and cards. Now I buy what I like. I really enjoy both types of paper crafting. I really try to create pages that record a story about the picture and event not detracting from the photos themselves.

I want to do that!!!!:(
About the closest I get, is a Creative Memories scrapbooking weekend twice a year, out of town from Sat at 10:00am to Sun at 4:00pm. Then maybe 4 or 5 "Stamp a stack"s a year.

I do both - started as a cardmaker then got into scrapbooking. Have made a number of scrapbooks for special occasion gifts and they were very well received. Love them both but seem to do many more cards than scrapbook pages now.
Both for me. I started with scrapbooking, and then I got into card making.
I got into stamping with the intent to make my own "stickers" (embellishments). I was so tired of having all these stickers that weren't the right color, etc. And once you use the sticker, it's gone! Now I can make however many I want in whatever color that I want.
I do both. I started out scrapbooking, then bought some non-SU stamps, but never really did much with them. I went to a SU! party and learned 2-step stamping. I loved it! So I ordered a 2-step rose set and made an album for my sister-in-law of her son's wedding using just the stamps as embellishments. She loved it! After awhile, I started making cards too.
I do both. I started with stamping and was introduced to scrapbooking years later. I use my stamps in my scrapbooks. I like scrapbooking, and my husband and son love to look through the albums. I think I find cardmaking a bit more relaxing and creative though.
I started scrapbooking about 13 years ago and LOVE it! Over the years I have continued to "stretch" myself creatively trying all kinds of new things. About a year ago I started trying my hand at cardmaking and it stuck. Within the past few months I discovered this site and have begun to develop my stamping abilities, though I've actually "dabbled" at it a while now.
