Dirty Stamps? Why you need Dawn Power Dissolver, electric toothbrush & a greenie
Dirty stamps - want to clean them, here's what you need - check out the pics below for proof!
Dawn Power Dissolver
Electric Toothbrush
Greenie
Elbow Greese
I did put this thread in the demo area as well, but all stampers need to see this!
First - I got this stamp set from someone else in this condition. My stamps don't look like this! No one on this board. You get a stamp set like this and think "how can I fix this to even use this?" Or your stamps look like this and you want to trade them away without feeling bad about the condition...then you need to do this.
Well I was lurking in the other threads trying to find out how to clean my dirty stamps. Because stampin' mist just doesn't do it for a lot of my stamps, and sometimes the stamp cleaners that have the scrubby top don't do it either, but they do better than just stampin' mist alone. I do recommend you have one of those in addition to your mist. You need your stampin scrub close by and some paper towels to wipe off the dirt from the wood when using Dawn.
So lots of people recommended Dawn Power Dissolver - one person said they used an electric toothbrush and it worked better than a regular one. I got out the greenie to 'sand' the stains off the wood. Be careful NOT to get Dawn Power Dissolver by the sticker on the top as it will wipe the ink right off the sticker. So be careful with your stains on top of your wood.

Wow, Thanks for sharing these tips. I have traded and gotten a few like this and was so dissapointed. Now I will have to go buy me some dawn and an electric toothbrush!!
There is a link. You probably have them. They are great for cleaning things that need good elbow grease. I used the Dawn Power Dissolver to clean the grease cooked stains off my muffin pans!!! You need the greenie with it as it needed elbow grease as well.
Someone else asked what a greenie was on the other thread - I guess I assumed people would know what I meant...sorry. They are great to scrub the dirt off your potatoes too. They are cheap - you can find off-brand ones at the dollar stores cheap.

I have some cleaner from my lss called "Joy of Stamping" stamp cleaner - it's a pink liquid in a dauber-top bottle and baby, does it get stamps clean! I'm going to get a bigger bottle of it next time and put it in a spray bottle - spray some on one side of a stamp scrubber and scrub the stamps down in it; if they're badly stained, let them sit on it for a while and then dry them off on the other side of the scrubber.
I had stamps that I bought used from a demo and they were NASTY - still had some kind of metallic ink on them; stained black, just ick, and this stuff cleaned them off completely and without really putting much effort into it. It smells kind of windex-y, but the manufacturer's website says that it contains no alcohol or solvents that will harm stamps - and it's safe to use with acrylic blocks. (Staz-On cleaner isn't.)

HAH! I'm glad you posted this. I was thinking the dog treat
I ordered the stamp cleaner Seirekastamper recommended from Inky Antics last week - hopefully I receive it soon. I'm wondering if it will take the black off the one daisy stamp. When I get it, I'll be sure to post pictures and let everyone know. I've never received a stamp set in such a bad condition. I can't believe the stamps were NEVER cleaned. I wonder how her ink pads looked.
I thought people would know what I meant by a greenie. I worked in the cafeteria in college and I know that's what everyone called them. That was years ago. I would go out to the bars and people would recognize me and say "aren't you the girl that works in the cafeteria?" Just how you want to be known...as the chic who works in the cafeteria...I had to scrub a ton of potatoes one day with the greenies - they about tore all my skin off my fingertips. It hurt to do my hair for a week. I should have worn gloves...so if you are doing lots of scrubbing with them...wear gloves. LOL!
Just make sure the cleaner stays away from your stickers as it will clean the ink right off the sticker...

I don't know, but my MIL who is a CTMH consultant said not to use it with their stamps either...maybe something in it breaks down the polymer ??? Any CTMH consultant want to answer this? I'd like to know the reason behind it as well

Thanks MamaKimberly! I've never actually used Staz-On cleaner, but I remembered reading where someone had used it and it did something bad to the block. I know that Prairie Stamper recommends the Joy of Stamping cleaner because it doesn't craze or damage the blocks.
