Is there such a thing as a cheat sheet for all of the dimensions for layering a 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 cards? Say you want to have two or three layers are there dimensions somewhere for those layers? And all of the other layers that are so popular on the cards or do you just start cutting and take your chances. Am I explaining myself correctly? Thanks!
I know exactly what you mean! Being mathmatically challenged, I kind of eyeball it once I've decided on how long/wide/round, etc. my stamp is, then sometimes make a little mark with my fingernail and start cutting!! Not scientific, by any means. Sometimes I glue the stamped image on a scrap I'm using for my mat and cut around there, too, so I know it's even all the way around. My SU demo was an engineer in her pre-children life and measures and cuts so precisely. Wish I could look at it and just 'know' what sizes are needed! I did buy the Nestabilities rectangles last week and hope this will solve some of the more standard sizes for cards. If someone responds with a template, how wonderful!
I eyeball it too. If I'm using a back piece, I'll lay the top piece on it a little lower - where I want the bottom to show, place a lite pencil mark where I want to cut and then cut. And that's why they call it "hand-made"!!!
Don't worry about it. Your cards will be just as gorgeous WITHOUT the cheat sheet!
I usually do quarter inch difference between layers so there is a 1/8" border on all sides. So if I was doing a three layer card on a 4 /14 x 5 1/2 card, the next layer would be a 4" x 5 1/4" piece. Then the next would be a 3 3/4" x 5". The one after that would be a 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece. Or you can do 1/8" increments. Just decide what you want the border to be on all sides, and then go from there.
ETA: Oh I get it. You mean for like a layer for a stamp or something? Most of the times when I am doing those kinds of layers I use my Nesties. It makes it so much easier.
My sister eyeballs her layers on everything and it turns out great, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just do what looks good to you and have fun. No stressing! There's also the perfect layers tool. I am thinking about getting that. No measuring, no stressing, just mat it, choose your border size, and cut along the ruler. It looks awesome. Straight, even layers each time!

When you get your Nesties rectangles, you can stamp your image on a piece of scrap paper, then just try out the nesties over it, to see which one you want to use.
Each Nestie acts as a frame, and you can look at it with the image inside before you actually run it through and cut it out. I always stamp my images on the cardstock, and then cut or diecut the image. This lets you decide how much white space you want around your image.

There is a tool I *** think*** it is called perfect layers. It is like a ruler and it has different mat edges. I used it for a long time. Now I eyeball everything.

I ordered this from QVC but it is on waitlist. I also ordered some nesties and they are on preorder ....so I have to wait till I get either one 'cause just as 'bakerbabe' I am very challenged in that department.
