Default Designer series paper - your source

Hello,
I hope that this finds you well! This Christmas I am designing about 50 cards for family and friends and discovered a shocking discovery. I am going through my Stampin' UP Designer series paper and need to restock. I used to be a Stampin' up Demo for about a year. I checked them as my first instinct and saw nothing that jumped out at me.

Where are you getting your colorful printed paper? I have plenty of core colors through 2017. Then the newer colors were not my cup of tea. Anything like foliage, Christmas trees, plaid - that sort of thing.

Hobby Lobby is my go-to for this, as they have a variety of sizes and styles, and they often go on sale (especially the Paper Studio line). If they're not on sale, you can use a coupon and get 40%-50% off (depending on the coupon, of course). I tend to get 6" x 6", but that's because I feel they are a better scale for cards. They also have 4" x 6" stacks that work well.

Studio Calico has quality double sided paper (DSP) with some unusual designs - more contemporary. I don’t use a lot of 12x12 but often pull it out of my stash when using it. Sometimes they have sales so may be worth it to get on their mailing list. I have a few faves I bought a lot of, and sometimes they’re on Amazon or eBay.

Paper & Cardstock - Studio Calico

ETA Tuesday Morning sometimes has nice 12x12 packs or pads. I got some holiday paper from them once. Michaels’ was thinner - I prefer a little more substantial, even for layers.

That's for the single sheets, right? Do you know if the pads/stacks are also on sale? Those are typically a great value, too.

Well, I wished I had the problem of running out of DSP! lol When I can't find dsp to my liking, I make my own by stamping pine boughs on cardstock or using a background stamp (like buffalo plaid or hardwood). Then I don't have to worry that the store-bought DSP colors match the cardstock that I have.

One of the stamp companies had a set to make your own plaid; I think it was Altenew but I'm not sure.

Concord & 9th has a buffalo plaid background, a woven plaid background and a set called Happy Plaids where you can design your own plaid.

Papertrey Ink has a set called Plaid Builder.

The stamps in Happy Plaids and Plaid Builder are long enough to stamp diagonally on an A2 card.

No pads on sale this week per the ad. Maybe the new ad that comes out Sunday will have some on sale.

Michael’s has some pads on sale.

Have you seen the new Park Lane Paperie lines at Joann's. They have pads in both letter and 12 x 12 sizes and I really like their designer. I haven't checked out their Christmas lines, because I am well stocked, but that could be a quick purchase.

My go-to nowadays is Echo Park/Carta Bella made in USA paper.

I always come back to Stampin Up DSP. They have more double sided papers with smaller designs suited to card size. I recently bought a 12x12 pad called Farmhouse Christmas at Michaels, but very few of those were good for cards and it isn't double sid ed so I ended up giving most of it away! I have made my own like someone suggested. This years Christmas paper didn't appeal to me much, except for Brightly Gleaming ( and I bought two packs of that!) I also bought the Wrapped in plaid 6x6 DSP. I wish they had made that in 12x12!

OT Kathy, you reminded of Totally Tiffany, who holds free organization classes, and who says for most people 12x12 pads pile up and maybe a few papers are used. So they add bulk/clutter.

She’s big on “library” storage for paper, IOW vertical/upright, so papers can be seen. They’re buried if in pads for many people. I’m sure there are exceptions for some, but for me she’s spot on. I only have one 12x12 pad that is single colors with textures I love. I pulled out the colors I didn’t like and donated them. Actually I have three of that one pad.

I’m not a big SU card maker but every 12x12 paper pack I’ve purchased has been luscious, with a wonderful “hand” (or is that just for fabric?) and high quality. With eyes closed the difference can be felt between it and some brands.

I only have two or three 12x12 pads now that I quit buying them. I donated a lot. One pad is all wood and brick backgrounds and it is recollections brand. It is called farmhouse. Its very useful since it is solids.

I like those, Kathy! Just really versatile. I need to go through my too many 6x6 pads and cull out sheets I wouldn’t use. There’s one 6x6 pad I like and bought a couple extras. It’s retired (I think) but the one time I went to a local Paper Source there it was! Just unusual scheme: navy and peach, with copper metallic accents. I don’t use much DSP but have used that. Still there:

Blush Paper Pad | Paper Source

Oops, rose gold, not copper. I think I’ll buy another one. Two?

I was addicted to my minds eye 6x 6 and used to buy 2-4 of the same pads! I've honed out quite a bit now. Whenever I go to a craft store I repeat this mantra before getting out of the car. "I do not need more paper. I do not need more paper!"

Most of the dp I buy is from Tuesday Morning. They have it all the time and the patterns and 12x12 pads change quite often. Their prices are lower than JoAnn's. Love their 6x6 pads, too.

Which My Minds Eye? Inquiring minds... I don’t have tons of DSP - and got rid of a lot - but have to keep reminding myself over and over that there is a difference between what is wonderful/beautiful/fun versus what I will actually use.

They were older pads. I tore out my favorites and gave away a ton! I think one pad was called stella and rose mabel. There was another one that was a favorite but I can't remember the name. I'll check my inventory list. I may have them on there.

21 of that one pad?! Or 21 6x6’s? I found the one you named - pretty, and nice pattern size!

Patterned DP- I have bought from all of these.

Scrapbooking for Less...A woman running a business out of the house and they upgrades the website so it is WAY easier than the old slow days. Note: She flat ships so it has to be worth it-but she also has dies, stamps and other stuff. I am a fan of Graphic 45 and she will get those but you have to watch the pattern scales on single sheets. She has a lot of brands...some rotate in and out as she gets it.

Scrapbook.com
A Cherry on top
Cheap scrapbook stuff

Alexandra renke has beautiful flowers gen supplier will have

That's all 12 x 12.

6 x 6 pads-many many companies have these. It would be a much shorter list to say who does not lol

The paper boutique has really nice flowers
Lydia turned us onto Unity for some pretty flowers
Bo bunny has a pad with pretty little birds
Dress my craft-a line called the teeney weenies
scrapbookingwarehouse...has prima and stamperia pads and moreellen hutson has a lot of brands
simon says stamp will have some

It kinds of depends on what you want...doodle bug does fun stuff. So does Echo park. Like camping or school themes.
Lawn Fawn, sunny studio and MFT have a lot of dots, stripes, plaids.

Good paper is all over the place. I find it is mostly what catches my eye. I have so much now I dont normally shop paper these days.

I agree though about making your own. tons of background stamps around and if you emboss them...now they are fancy paper! I just got a small flower pattern at Simon says stamp that I expect do as a monochrome or watermark with versafine.
Repeat stamping-esp if you have a stamp platform.

21 of the 6x6. Probably three of those. There was another one I had four if. It was very masculine but I can't remember the name.

I still can't find my favorite, but I found four more I had. Jack&Jill, traveler, portobello road, and breeze.

Thank you for all of the ideas! I will be checking out Hobby Lobby Monday. I do like smaller designs that I can use for cards. I guess I have to examine the DSP at Stampin' Up a bit closer.
Scrapbook ,com is something I am loading up right now

This is my expertise, ROFL!

I buy a lot at Scrapbook.com & A Cherry On Top.

Favorite brands are Echo Park, Carta Bella, Photo Play, Graphic 45, & Webster Pages. If you like SU's paper then I would stick with scrapbook paper from sources like Scrapbook.com or Cherry on Top because it's the same quality.

I do like the big box stores paper but it is usually not double sided and more like printer paper. Then if you are lucky to get double sided the weight is not the same as SU. I am not knocking it at all. I have a lot of the big box craft store papers. It is much different.

Also look for an LSS in your city and they will have a lot of lines for you to buy. Hope that helps.

I have seen awesome paper from graphic 45, but I only shop brick and mortar and around here, that brand isn't available. I also like echo park. The only way I can find them is a LSS shop, but I dont go there often because paper is about all she carries. She has scrapbooking crops so she is packed with cricuts and paper. When I do go, I always find cool papers, but since I don't NEED paper, I try not to go there much. I DO want to go to my favorite LSS soon. I haven't been there in ages and my demo friend gave me a gift certificate for there.

I love nerds! by danni5199 - at Splitcoaststampers

It was by my mind's eye and called Stella and Rose Hattie.

How fun is that card?! I love how the patterns play together - and the checks on the shirt with the background? I just got two more of the Blush 6x6 pads from My Minds Eye from The Paper Source. Did you see Kristina Werner just put out a video using My Minds Eye Holly Jolly papers? And she almost never uses patterned paper. It must be My Minds Eye time:

Yes, the patterned paper is what caught my eye! So I went to her blog and she named it! I love when they link to their blogs and there actually IS more detail there!

I saw Kristina's DSP cards. I love her yearly Christmas series! I check it on almost all the time. I have cased a few.

What is this about a rescue panther I read on the pif thread?

Kaisercraft papers from Australia are always beautiful. They often come in 12"x12" and 6"x6" sizes with the smaller size having a smaller-scaled print, and many designs have accompanying findings. https://www.kaisercraft.com.au/colle...ercraft?page=1
Brutus Monroe is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylania- based company that has a fun collection of papers. I used the candy stripe paper on some thank you notes for an organization this season; the paper is firm, has a nice finish, and was one-sided. https://www.brutusmonroe.com/collections/paper-pads

I second this motion - Kaisercraft has simply gorgeous papers and stencils.

I recently ran across Hackney & Co, whose Emporium, Riverbank, and Herbarium paper collections are just exquisite. Craft Consortium carries them, along with some delicious papers of their own. Shop | Craft Consortium Ltd

I don't see Anna Griffin stuff around much anymore, but she has had some lovely papers over the years, too. Scrapbook.com carries some of it, and of course, her own site does, as well: https://annagriffin.com/product-category/crafts/paper/

I just purchased the 6x6 Wrapped in Plaid from SU and I love it, it is scaled for card making. I have purchased 12x12 pads, but honestly, years later I have them sitting in my craft room, barely used. The main reason is the pattern is not scaled for cardmaking, and also my solid colour cardstock is SU, and it can be hard to match another manufacturer colours to SU. I tend to use a white, vanilla or black base when using those pads.

It's not on clearance. It's on retiring products. The price is not discounted, but I love it, so I'm hoping to get more.

Default 12 x 12 pads

I too have bunch of 12 x 12 pads that won't work for cards. I won't buy them unless the majority have small images.

SU designs most of their paper both 12 x 12 & 6 x 6 to cards making. Plus it matches all the solid paper I have

I love gelli printed backgrounds for any occasion, but that’s a whole ‘nother addiction. Love using the gold metallics with red and greens.

Last year, I used the ugly, thin paper you get in cheap stacks to make inner envelopes for Christmas cards. A lot of folk commented how nice the inner envelopes were. ( What I call an inner envelope is, an envelope I put a card in, then, place that in the "mailing" envelope). I used up the paper without guilt.

That’s a great idea. I’ve been making envelopes out of the patterned paper but the way you do it (inserting into another) would probably protect cards with embellishments better. Thanks for sharing!

I've only ordered a stamp/die set but found out about Dare 2B Artsy from someone recommending their papers on another forum. They look beautiful and some will be purchased once my space is better organized.

Here's a link:
