How do most of you personalize your designs? I usually just write a "design by" on the back lower edge. Sometimes you see them on the front, but it looks to me like those are just imposed over the card for the purposes of posting. I am sure the more professional of you probably have a stamp with your name on it! but for newbies, what is your recommendation?
Some people have custom stamps made with their name, blog url, etc. and stamp that on the back of the card. I know PTI has a "handmade by" stamp and then you can sign your name. I've used that in the past. I also will print translucent labels with my contact info to put on the back of a card.
I think the info on the front of cards you've seen is a watermark for the photo so no one grabs it to use as their own.

Thanks Tracy. I see you are from Hamburg, NY. I just finished scrapbooking my Uncle's WWII war letters home (killed in action). He was from Hamburg at the time. I actually visited there with my GP's in the 50's. We stayed in Mayville by Lake Chatq. Beautiful area. Anyway, thanks for the info. I am a handspinner and weaver and now (as if I needed a new project) adding stamping to my hobby list.
Angel policy stamps are stamps that give credit to the company of whoever stamp sets you are using. IE; Mine says; Handstamped with love...then it has stampinup copyright on the bottom. You need to do this if you are selling your cards or products with SU products. I am fairly new to this too, so if I don't have it right..someone please correct me.
Many companies have restrictions as to how the images may be used. Some do not allow any commercial use at all, merely personal use such as stamping in a journal or on a card to send to someone. No selling items though.
Others allow you to sell but require a copyright symbol be placed on the item giving them credit for the images. Some might restrict the type of venue you can sell items in. It can get quite confusing, lol!
Nine times out of ten, though, people don't purchase stamps to make items to sell. In that case, angel policy is academic only; it won't apply to them. If you want to sell your creations, though, you need to contact each company to find out their policy, which is known as an "angel policy."
Whether or not I use copyright stamps on items, I strongly believe in using a personalized stamp in every case. I think too many of us undervalue our work and don't think to take credit for our work. Sign your work! You are the artist -- be proud of it!

My name is Bea (pronounced like bee) so I have little bee stamps and bee stickers I use. I use the stamps on the back of my cards. I mostly use the stickers on my scrapbook pages. It has become somewhat of a game for people to find the bee on the scrapbook page.

I use the SU personalized stamp with my name on it and I always write the year underneath. Many times, hand made cards are cherished and kept, so it might be nice to know what year you received a card from someone.

I have a few "stamped by" type stamps that I use, but sometimes I use a small stamp from the set I used for the card and stamp it on the back then sign my name. I also put the year since my mom and a few of my friends save the cards I send them.

I had a custom stamp made at a local office supply shop that has a logo my sister designed and my "hobby name" on it. I stamp it on every card and sb page I made and include the year.
I never used to do this, but then a woman that I worked with nagged me to death. In her eyes it was a work of art & needed to be signed in some way. The funny thing is right after I gave in I saw a "Handstamped by Marie" stamp on clearance... my name isn't Marie, but for a buck I bought it & cut off the E (I go by Mari IRL). Once I finally gave in I couldn't seem to stop myself! Then I had to have the Egyptian glyphs, and so on....
Third Coast has some really nice personalized designs if you're in the market: http://thirdcoastrs.com/custom_name_stamps.htm
I've often wondered, how that is put on their pics, can anyone tell me how to do that?

I use a $5 custom stamp with my name in cursive and above it I use a wal-mart stamp that says "Made in Hawaii with Aloha"
If it's for my non-profit I put a stamp of a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle above those.
Friends and family seem to love that I put my name on stuff.
I have a cute little cat face stamp (dollar store stamp) I use. I've been thinking about getting a custom stamp, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
One of my very first stamps (24 years ago or so) was my name stamp by All Night Media (they don't make the personalized stamps in that font anymore, so I'm holding on to it). The stamp is still "going strong". I've always stamped it two-toned on the back of my cards, and then stamp two sets of paw prints for my "babies" who always help when I'm stamping. If I forget to stamp the back, people let me know!
I have a stamp I got at Walmart when I first started stamping. It came in a pack with a Thank You stamp, too. Cost about $5 for both. I haven't seen one I like better and I still use it on all my cards:

I bought a personalized stamp from SU and have been greatly disappointed in it. It cost a lot of money and it is very difficult to stamp it on a ink pad without getting ink residue on the edges thus leaving marks. (because the rubber isn't raised up enough like in regular SU stamps) The only way I can use it at all is with a marker, but then that doesn't leave a crisp, clear impression either. I wouldn't recommend these stamps to anyone. I have several other 'hand made by...' stamps from other companies that I use (that aren't personalized, you just write in your name) but actually my favorite is the CB small EF that says "Created for you with Love'. Its so simple to use and takes me less time than stamping.

Some are better than others. If you stick to the designs that have bolder fonts, you will get a better result with the stamps. You might want to try taking the stamp, sticking it in the microwave for 10 seconds or so, then taking the stamp off the wood, removing the foam and sticking just the rubber down on the wood, making sure you trim it very well. Some people have found this improves the stampability of the personalized stamps.
The reason the stamps aren't deeply cut is that they use a laser cutting process to create them. If you made them like regular rubber stamps, which are created with a plate/mold, it would be even more expensive to create one since you are only making one of each design and couldn't spread the cost of the plate over a complete run.
I have about 5 of the personalized stamps. I've used the Tag It Hand Stamped By stamp the most and find it stamps very nicely. I also bought the Decorative Design one and cut the SU! copyright line off and mounted it on the side so I could use this one for cards with other companies' stamps if I choose...if I want to use the SU! copyright line I just stamp it underneath. I also have the Busy Bee and Confetti text & image stamps and they stamp very well. The ones I would not buy are the Elegant Flower text & image and the Script text stamp because the script font used in them does not stamp very well from what I've heard.
There is a website called Paper Angel that makes the personalized stamps too...they are very competitive in their prices and have LOTS to choose from. I have 3 of their stamps - and love them!! everyone always comments on my cards "how professional" they look with my name on the back!!
I have a handmade stamp as well that was made for me by a company - bought off the 'bay It says "Handmade by Kelly" and I usually stamp each handmade card with the back of it, but if I am making cards (like a pack of 10, matching) to send to friends as gifts, I will use a "created by" and leave it blank.
I usually just sign the back lower left corner with DKowal and the year. If I'm sending the card to another stamper I'll write stamp credits...sometimes I've signed a tiny "dini" on the front of a card if I can find an inconspicuous place.
When I'm home...and I have a little more time.....I have a stamp I designed that says "dini", and I stamp that over a left hand image, stamped off once, then sign. If you go to my blog you can see it if you scroll allllllllll the way down to the bottom. Not that it's all that cool, or that you care..........
