Ok..I keep seeing lovely cards made with this cuttlebug so I'm going to have to break down and get it..My question is this. Is it really easy to use? And do you buy the discs or whatever they're called that make the different designs?
I should be able to use my 40% off coupon at JoAnns and do they carry the discs for the designs.
Thanks so much for your input, in advance

Some of the Joann's stores have the Cuttlebug and the accessories like the embossing folders and the dies. The one in Fargo doesn't have any of this. (Our Michael's does though!)
The CB is super easy to use!

I'm still playing around with mine but it is easy to use I think. I just got my first embossing folder so I have to play around with that. i just love new "toys" to play with
A breeze to use. The folders and die sets are usually available anywhere the Cuttlebug is sold. Many fun designs to choose from as you've probably seen here on SCS. If you should get one I'm positive you'll love it.
I'm really loving the embossing I"m seeing. Is that equally as easy?
THanks for all you're wonderful help. I'm really getting eager now to splurge and get it...I just don't want something setting around that I won't use if it's not easy but so far, you're all 'in my court of easy'....Thanks

Beyond simple, really! No discs or electrical gadgets. For die-cutting, think of little cookie cutters that you roll through with your cardstock. Embossing, just texture plastic pieces that you "smash" your cardstock in between. It has a crank handle kind of like a pasta machine. Totally cool and easy.
Very very easy to use. So far I've only used it with the embossing folders, but it takes absolutely no strength at all to get a great impression ... and there is no learning curve. Just put the paper in the embossing folder and put it through the machine. I havent used mine enough yet, but I do love it.
I don't have the Cuttlebug, but I can use the embossing folders and dies with my Sizzix and a converter. I love the embossing folders - they make such a nice addition to the cards and scrapbook pages.
I bought a cb from Joann's and they didn't have much to choose from as far as cut outs go. they had a few more of the embossing folders. I would really like a better selection. I tried 2 different Joann's. Does Michaels have a better/bigger selection? We have a Crafts 2000 and Hobby Lobby, but I haven't seen the cb stuff at either one of them.
Ditto to what others have said about it being easy. My kids love to help me turn the handle. My husband's comment the first day I put it to use: "Even I could do that." I love my little bug and have to try hard to not use it TOO much. I get my embossing folders and dies at my LSS, which is actually a chain here in Utah. They're pretty readily available online if you don't have any luck finding them in a store near you.
Oh yes, the CB is very easy to use and easy to move around. The embossing "folders" are soooo pretty for backgrounds. They cost about $5.00 at AC Moore (less with a coupon). The "dies" which are shapes you cut out are about $16.00 at AC Moore (can also use coupon if not on sale). I have the flower die and cut them out of a cereal box to make jumbo clips and it was soooo easy! I have 2 embossing folders and love them. You MUST get a Cuttlebug!!!! (I got mine when AC Moore had a 50% off special on them.)

Love the Bug. :-) I think the embossing is my favorite thing to do, but the dies are great, too. I love my Olivia alphabet.
Check out the Cuttlebug FAQ in my signature to get more ideas, websites to buy (my favorite is http://www.allthatscraps.com--free shipping over $10), and all kinds of answers.
After all your great input, I bought the Cuttlebug today at JoAnns, plus 3 embossing folders, so tonite I'll unpack it and hope it's as easy as everyone says. I am curious about the Olivia Alphabet that Amysings write about. I didn't see anything close to that.
Thanks again gals for your positive input I'm going to have fun with this. I too especially like the looks of th embossing.

I hemmed and hawed for weeks about whether I needed a Cuttlebug or not. Twice, I was in Michael's with my DH and he said I should just buy it, but still I didn't. I finally bought one the other day. What in the world was I waiting for? I LOVE the darned thing! How did I think I could live without one? I can be so silly sometimes! Yes! It's very easy to use, and you can cut chipboard! I never would have believed how happy being able to cut cereal boxes would make me.
if you get the cuttlebug, you MUST get the spreadsheet that Cat put together about being able to use all the different manufacture dies and accessories. Find it here: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Its WAY better than the instruction sheet that came with the unit.
Wow great, thanks for that link. I too thought I would never need a cuttlebug, love it. Now I can sell my two QK handles and give away the sizzix and sidekick.
Thanks for the link mnhyrkas. I printed it. I do hav a question though and no trying to hijack. It gives sandwich rules for cutting chipboard with the regular bug dies, bug embossing folders and Quickutz dies. I thought only the Sizzix steel rule ones could cut chipboard. Has anyone tried the other dies and could you pease tell me if the non steel rule ones actually cut through the chipboard? I pretty much only use the cereal box thickness. I've thought about trying it but I'm worried about ruining the die. TIA.

The Olivia Alphabet is a absolutely the neatest alpa!!! The BEST thing about the Olivia is the extra die plates that are at the end - the "thanks" die is incredible and it's only part of the die that also includes a vase, stem/leaf and flower, the word "hi" and I don't know what else. There is also one other bonus die in the set that has a large tag with a flower cut out of it and some other things, too. In my opinion, the Olivia Alphabet is the coolest alpha set they have!

The CB embossing folders will emboss chipboard. All the CB dies will cut chipboard. I don't believe QK cuts chipboard, but I don't have one to try. The CB dies are steel rule, even tho they're thinner than most other steel rule dies.
I'm pretty sure you can't damage the die by trying to cut thicker materials. It just won't cut thru the whole thing.
Love, Love, Love my Cuttle Bug I don't know how I lived with out it!!! I have all the embossing folders even the new ones And most of the old dies and of course the new ones are great and have allmost all of them!!! I just need more time to play with it of course!! LOL Kim
OH!! Eat bean and weenies for a couple weeks, and GET IT! I LOVE mine. I am tecnologically illiterate and the Cuttlebug does NOT require an electrical outlet... no programming... no 23 page booklet of directions.. It is as easy as it gets. I am not a collector of crafty toys and am very practical in my supply 'needs'. But, the Cuttlebug is the MOST enjoyable toy I have ever purchased. I like the dies fine, but am completely consumed by the embossing folders! I wish you lived down the block... I am so excited about the Cuttlebug I would love to come for a visit and help you get your Cuttlebug out of its box!... over a hot cup of coffee, of course :o)
It is shocking how much it adds to a card or creation. Let us know when you get it and how much fun you are having! By all means - USE those coupons!
Yes Kate. The bug will cut the sizzix. No converter needed. I've tried these brands of dies and had not a single problem. Bosskut, Double Do, Zip'ecuts (even the longer ones), Sizzix, Sizzlit, Ellison and Quickutz. I cut four of these brands at the same time! HTH.

THis is so funny because I broke down and bought one and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I thnk Bitten is sooooo the right word. I just want to keep playing and playing and playing. I haven't bought any other die cut/embossing machines but am really glad that I have gotten this one. Our LSS doesn't carry it but when I was in the "City" (110 miles away) two weekends ago I hurried and bought one before I could change my mind. I am kicking myself for not getting more dies/embossing folders. I did order some online and am impatiently waiting.......
Anyway - back to the comment about beans and weenies - I have been using stuff up in my cupboards and freezer like never before and staying away from the grocery store (except basics) for like a month. Just to save money for my new obsession. It came to life about the time I found this web site! But I am so glad I did.
I don't think it has been mentioned in this thread, but you might also check out Provocraft.com to see ALL of the dies and folders available. They also have a blog that you could spend a while reading. WAY back in that massive thread about the bug, I think it was JulieHRR who gave measurements for the different alphabets. I should have written that one down. Well, I think I did but have no idea where!
Betsey, enjoy. By the way, there are lots of exchanges of embossed sheets and die cuts over in the WishRAK group - but you have to join RAK first.
I have a BIGkick from Sizzix and I can use my c'bug embossing folders beautifully. I also discovered something else! When Sizzix had (and is still having) their end-of-year sales, I purchased MANY of their Simple Impressions and the carrying case. So now I have all of these plastic envelopes that they originally come in and guess what?!! the c'bug EFs fit perfectly in them for storage and protection. Just thought I'd put that out there. I LOVE those EFs. I've also noticed, by the way, the c'bug EFs give a much deeper impression than the Texturz plates from Sizzix. I still like them, but it is harder to put color on the impressions.

I noticed in the mailout for Joanne's yesterday they have the CB on sale for $69.99 so you can't use your 40% off coupon. I bought mine months ago and absolutely love it.

The Joann's flyer has a 50% off coupon this good today and tomorrow (Saturday) that you can use at Michael's to get the CB for $40.
