I have used the embossing folders for quite awhile and love them, so I recently purchased a set of the small border folders and 1 set of the tiny folders. I must be doing something wrong when using them because I am getting a "line" from the folder. (If that makes any sense?)
I do not have the tan mat, could that be the problem?
TIA for any help!
I have the same problem (mostly with the long skinny ones)! I have never seen the tan mat, except for in a YouTube video, so I'm not even sure what that's for. I hope someone can fill us in!
I sometimes get the same mark around the folders. The tan mat you are talking about comes with the wizard when you buy that machine. You can also get them on there own. You can get a large tan mat . I think its A4 in size and you cut that up for what size you need. You can put brass stencils through with the tan mat. You cut it just a bit smaller than your brass stencil so that you dont get the edges showing on your card. I hope that makes some sense to you.

You can also use a cardstock shim that's cut just a little smaller than the folder. This takes the pressure off the edge of the folder and helps the line from being pressed into your design. If one shim doesn't work, try two, or a piece of light chipboard.
I must be lucky because I never have a problem with the lines some others have. I dont use a tan mat although I have it. Did you ladies see the new ones coming after CHA? WOW...loving them. Also Quikcutz has a line of A2 (same size as Cuttlebug) embossing folders that would allow more variety. I love these too!

You need to get some of the red rubber packing sheets from the plumbing department at Lowe's (probably Home Depot too). They are 6" x 6" x 1/8". Cut them just a little smaller than the border embossing folders (I did several sizes since some of the new folders are skinny and some wider) and then replace one of the B plates with the rubber. It's sturdier than the tan embossing mats and puts pressure just on the design, not the edges, which is what's causing the lines.
Here is a link I found to Indigo Inklings that addresses the problem of lines from your folders. I haven't tried it yet, so I couldn't tell you first hand if it works.
Had that problem. Found a thread here on SCS that suggested using about 15 sheets of typing/printer paper, each folded in half (instead of the top B plate). Works like a charm! You may have to adjust the number of folded sheets as all cluttlebugs aren't the same.

Yep, it's the thickness of the sandwich you are using, not the type of pad (acrylic-clear or rubber-tan/red). The thicker the sandwich, the more pressure is being exerted on the embossing folders, leaving a 'line' from the plastic edge being pushed into the CS.
I don't have the borders but I do have the little square plates. To minimize the line around the sides, switch to a thinner plate and used extra card stock to get the sandwich to the right thickness. If you practice a bit and keep taking away layers of Card Stock or copy paper you should be able to get rid of the lines.

I tried this method and then I got a liine from the stick!!
Now I just add scrap paper to the even out the height and no more problems.
