Default Cross reference of various ink colors...

Has anyone ever done a cross reference of ink colors?

Gina K to Stampin' Up to Catherine Pooler to Papertrey Ink to etc - to see what the color difference is?

I would be interested to hear if this has been done. You would have to own a lot of ink to have one person do it. It might be achievable by exchanging samples on strips or squares of paper.

I agree with AussieJenny. I have not heard of anyone doing this intentionally. It would be massive. I would guess JM has the biggest swatch collection I have seen yet but not the same.

I googled and found this one dated from 2014.....

Comparison of Stampin Up Ink Colors with Other Brands (Hero Arts, Avery Elle, Memento Luxe, etc.)

Usually comparisons are for functionality more than comparing all the purples, etc out there. Not that I would mind having access to a chart like that!

Gosh, that would be a huge undertaking for sure but it would be so awesome! If I had all the ink brands I'd do it. I think I love ink more than cardstock and that's saying something!!

Well it could be done here on SCS if we could get some volunteers.1 make a list of stamp ink brands currently available
2 make a list of colour groups ( eg orange, green )
3 get a volunteer coordinator for each colour group. If possible people with art training or review experience.
4 they make a list or roster of the shades of "their" colour
5 people put their name on the list for particular ink pads they own - then they send a swatch of the colour to the coordinator.
6 the coordinator for that colour puts the swatches together onto a chart, scans the chart(s) and uploads it to SCS. They write some comments about which ones are very close in colour etc. In return for their work they get to keep the swatches.
7 we all download the charts and enjoy...

Colours dont come out exactly on the computer screen of course, but you could see if one colour is lighter, darker, bluey green versus yellowy green etc.

Complete Ink Swatch Book Downloads - Jennifer McGuire Ink

Check this link to Jennifer McQuire. She has several videos showing her ink swatch book and the download sheets you can print to make your own.

I've used all the downloads that she has available for all the inks I own...this is a really valuable resource. I am always using my swatches when considering what colors to use.

I use my JM swatch book regularly. Unfortunately some of my ink colors are identical because they look different online. If I were to start over I would just choose a favorite ink that has a lot of colors and refills and stick with it. I waited months for a restocking of a WPlus9 color (which I love) and it turned out to be an exact match of a Hero Arts shadow ink color I already owned. That's happened a bunch of times. There is a chart out there comparing papertrey ink colors with Memento and a couple others. I didn't agree with the conclusions she made about most of the colors. I agree it would take a good color person to make those judgements. I love my inks but I'd just as soon not buy three brands of the exact color.
