A few months ago, there was an issue of Creating Keepsakes and it had a section/article in it about digital photos/storing your pics on your computer. IT had a few sob stories in it about how different editors of the mag had lost their photos due to not backing htem up...
I cant' find the magazine at home and am afraid I threw the issue away.....
Can anyone help me figure out which issue it was in--It was either Nov 05, Dec05, Jan06, or Feb06
Inside the recommended an external harddrive type item that would store pictures on it....that's what I am looking for!
Anyone who can help me figure out which issue it is would really help me out!Thanks!

It was the January 2006 issue, page 138. There's a story about losing digital pictures on the computer and they recommending printing right away but I didn't see anything about an external hard drive. Be a good idea though. HTH
I'm not sure what Creating Keepsakes issue it was in, but if you're looking to back up pictures in case of hard-drive crashes / accidental erasures / whatever else, you can buy another hard-drive. Both internal or external would work, though if you're just using it for backup, external would be more convenient. Look for "external" or "portable" harddrive. Western Digital used to make good ones (cnet.com has reviews, too).
Also, if you have a DVD writer, you can backup the pictures to dvd as well. I'm really paranoid about losing my precious memories, so I backup to a 2nd hard-drive as well as make 2 sets of backup dvds for most of my pictures

Just a thought - a second hard drive (internal or external) can crash just like the first drive. Personally, I wouldn't use an external drive as my ONLY means of backup. I think having an external drive for your photos is a great idea - it keeps your primary harddrive from filling up with your *sometimes* large graphic files, and keeps all your photos in one place.
However, you MUST still back up your 'photo' harddrive. I put everything on CD (well, DVD now that I have a writer). Then keep them together in a box (just like I do my negatives). These will go into a fire-safe box, as soon as I get one
Here's what I do for my photos. I have an external hard drive, but I also don't think that's enough. So every month, I upload my pictures to Shutterfly photo service (there are tons of others out there, but this is what I use). Now, if anything ever happens to my computer or my backup, I still have all my pics at a safe, remote location! As far as I know they have no limit on number of pictures you can put on there--I have about two thousand. Only thing is, you'll need a high speed connection to upload that number of photos.
I was shopping for an external hard drive fairly recently and found substantial price differences between different drives of the same size. A tech from LG or something was in that day demoing one of his company's products, and I asked him about the different drives and their price, and which one would he buy as someone who didn't work at the store. He looked at the drives and said they were exactly the same, except the high-priced Western Digital one came with some software that made it quick and easy to back up new files onto the external. I based my buying decision on seek time (in milliseconds), data buffer size (in MB), storage capacity (in GB), and drive speed (in RPM). Just in case you were looking for some suggestions on buying an external hard drive.
