Does anyone else find the shipping from 7 kids college fund shipping crazy high? I really want to order from them but when I include the shipping price it actually makes the prices higher then ordering from a place that offers reasonable shipping or free shipping at a particular dollar amount. I am really disappointed with this company I have never seen shipping costs so high in all my years of ordering online.
double check the shipping method. Might have been express shipping charges applied to your order.

I agree with OP. I've abandoned my cart several times there. I just checked my old cart contents a minute ago and for $23 worth of stuff (a 6" paper pad and some Scor tape), the cheapest shipping was 11.33. I'm in PA. I'll shop elsewhere.
I agree with the OP...everytime I go to cart it the shipping makes me hit the big red X
What I don't get is how all these different companies can have different shipping fees for the exact same items. They all use the USPS and those shipping charges are set kwim?
I agree and there are several companies who charge the postage, PLUS a shipping and handling fee. I sent an email to another company questioning the excessive shipping cost for a couple of clear stamps. I was told the additional fee is to cover the packing and shipping materials and the cost to have someone pack the orders
I replied that Brick and Mortar stores don't change me for the plastic bags and a fee to pay the cashier .
On-line businesses don't have any of the operating costs of brick and mortar stores. They don't need to pay high rent for a building in a high traffic location with plenty of parking. They have no loss from people opening packages or worse stealing things. They have no need for elaborate shelving and display units. They don't make me pay for pre-ordered items long before the store even orders them. The least on-line stores could do is provide the shipping!! Many on-line stores get their boxes free from the Post Office.
I understand a shipping charge if it is a heavy item like a die cut machine, or air compressor , but not for small light things .
I refuse to pre-order anything any more and I look for free shipping and not where I have to spend $75 + to get it
Just my 2
Barabara Jay I completely agree. The online businesses that do have employees also charge for the packaging and the workers to stuff the envelopes. I don't agree with that cause that is in the workers job description to package up the orders...they don't see an increase in pay per package they stuff.
And I always go back to the old adage that if it weren't for the customers than they wouldn't have a business.
Several of them don't offer sales or its a tiny percentage on a certain outrageous amount of an order or you get to choose a free item out of 5-6 the company chose.
I know they are there to make money but I don't think literally ripping off customers on shipping and handling is the way to ensure customer loyalty. I always shop around to find the best prices and will not shop with a company that will ship one clear stamp to me for $6.95....I'll definitely find it cheaper elsewhere.
I'm going to toss in my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth . . . . I have concluded, that basically, shopping online is a last resort option for me. I have to want something REALLY bad and it has to be something I can't get at my LSS.
As for the shipping costs . . . I have a feeling that many of these online stores are operated out of someone's basement and it's likely that individual has no real and substantive business management background. No historical lessons learned to draw from and they are simply running their business the way they think everyone else is.
There's an ebay mentality to the business model that says "sell the product at a discounted price and make the money from the shipping instead" It's the old bait and switch. It might work once, but seldom ever twice. Personally, I'd rather pay a premium for a product than end up feeling like I just got robbed by my supplier. There's a cost of doing business and that cost should be built in to the cost of the product.
All that being said . . . it must work, because as much as people complain, they continue to be return customers.

for a 35 dollar order, nothing heavy - the cheapest shipping that 7kidscollegefund.com was 14 dollars and I am in Ohio. I am not paying that, they are ripping me off. I will continue to shop online for appox 85% of everything I buy becasue there is good companies that offer either cheap shipping or what I prefer free shipping at a certain dollar amount which I always hit for the free shipping. I live appox 45 minutes from craft stoes and those are big box stores that don't offer enough variety.
After all this time, 7kidscollegefund is off my list of companies to buy from until they change the crazy high shipping costs. If enough people boycott them they will change their ways. I am also writting to the company. I could easily spend 100-150 dollars right now from them but then the shipping is out of this world- nearing almost 25-30 dollars. I know they say that if they can ship cheaper they will credit my account with them but I feel that I don't want a credit becasue I don't want to ever order from them until they change thier ways.
I wonder if there is a page on their website to contact them. they need to have people speak up about their shipping rates! Sometimes, at the bottom of the homepage, websites have a button you can click that says something like...contact us..or comments. If enough people let them know that they are losing business because of shipping rates, maybe they will be more inclined to do something about it.
I stopped buying from 7 Kids too. I pre ordered 2 Tildas. My credit card was charged when I placed the order but I waited 2 months to get them Then, I was charged over $4 shipping for two unmounted stamps. They fit in a small envelope. I decided that was enough.
One of the reasons I love Scrap-Mart is they ship most light things such as All Spellbinder products , Sizzix, and JustRite stamps FREE. And there is no minimum purchase to get the free shipping on those products. They have discount prices on everything and they have a 40% off coupon every month in their newsletter. For heavy things they have a $50 minimum for free shipping. They ship quickly. We don't need to pay excessive shipping costs. There are fair companies out there.
I've always found with 7 Kids that when she ships the order I also get an email saying I have got a gift voucher for $X, which has been applied to the order. I assume that was a way of reducing the shipping that's charged automatically per item at the time of ordering, and I've been happy to continue buying from there. Certainly for international shipping I have no complaints at all.
I've never had a refund from Amazon who also calculate shipping per item!
I have ordered from 7Kids alot and found the shipping to be what the USPS charges with nothing extra is added on.
Did you know that the Priority Mail boxes have decreased in size? That was a mighty big surprise to me when I was selling some stamps sets just recently. 2 SU stamp sets used to fit in a small Priority Box and now only one fits. I couldn't believe it. This could be one reason why it seems the shipping prices went up.
7Kids is a small business and probably doesn't qualify for those shipping perks that a big store like Scrap-mart does. I like to support the "little guy" so will continue to order from 7kids.
I will never order from that place again, either. I placed an order some time last year, one of the stamps was never sent to me. Sent an e-mail about it to the owner, was not given a reply. E-mailed again, received a reply about a month later saying the stamp was out of stock (not specified during shopping time) and would be mailed to me as soon as they receive the new shipment. Another month goes by, nothing. I e-mailed again and she sent me some discount codes to shop that wouldn't work!!! At that point I demanded my money back. She sent me a check 2 or 3 weeks later and gave me attitude in an e-mail back. Excuse me, but that is an AWFUL way to do business!!! I will never buy anything at '7kidscollegefund' even if they are the only place on earth selling something I really want.

I order from several small Mom and pop places online and have never seen such high shipping....They really make the small discount of retail prices look good until shipping is done then you are paying alot more then retail. Not worth it to order from that place.
I just had a shipping cost saga that is worse ! I will not name the company as they are a member company here. I had $12.25 in " unmounted" stamps in my cart. The shipping would be $5.95
I sent a message to the company on their excessive postage. I received a reply that they have checked with their competitors and their shipping rates are LOWER than others . The owner said she felt her shipping costs were a " great value!! Unbelievable !!
I replied and sent her examples of other companies that do not charge that much. One was that I just ordered $24 in stamps from Verve and the shipping was $3.
As with anything, you have to determine what you find acceptable. There are some companies I think shipping is outrageous for the product, so I look elsewhere. Companies can charge what they like. You decide if you do business with them.

UGH!!! I am dealing with the same scenario. I pre-ordered with an estimate of end of February. I added some Copics with the stamp order. I knew I would be waiting a little while for my order but not a month with no shipping date on the horizon. I really want to support her business but I am getting upset.
My order is waiting for one stamp that says its on order for the last few weeks. It isnt a problem from the manufacturer because other stores have it in stock.
ITS FRUSTRATING when they charge your credit card immediately.

Yes, unfortunately it can be (in part) the manufacturer, while being told that the order will ship mid March not everything that was ordered from the manufacturer was send and when called they said it woud be mid to the end of April..........and yes I have seen those same products at other stores, both online and store front. Manufacturers are in the same delema as retail stores..........they either did not order enough product for the demand and they too have to wait on their supplier.
I live here in Utah and have the awesome luxury of being able to pick up my items from Joanne at 123 stitch.. They have the fastest shipping times and awesome customer service... I stitch and do stamping so... I order from here frequently.

I agree. I stopped shopping there a couple of years ago due to items from missing from my order or very late shipping. I didn't think I should have to deal with "the attitude" any longer whenever there was a problem. Rather than deal with it, I even decided not to report a missing item in one order since it cost less than my time and aggrevation trying to fix it. I'm sorry that they were very busy or behind in shipping or forgot to include something I ordered, but that certainly wasn't my fault and they acted like it somehow was and then got upset when I complained about their service. I have found other on line vendors who are more than happy to have my business.
I think their stated shipping is rather high compared to other places. And free shipping requires a hefty $75 min. purchase. I will say, though that they have, on occasion, credited me when the actual costs were lower than the stated shipping charges. But it is a site credit, not money back to PayPal or credit card I used to pay for the order. So then I'm sort of back to where I started of how much do I need to order to make it worth the cost of shipping.
if you're interested, Kim Hughes' new company, Paper Smooches offers FIRST CLASS shipping! so, it only cost me $2 to get a set shipped to me. LOVE that!
Don't know about the other companies, but have to agree with RubberTrucker re Stamp Francisco. I have ordered from them a lot, and the shipping to the Uk has been more than reasonable. And fast, considering they manufacture when you order. Plus I also love the choice of stamps, in a number of sizes.
Many thanks to those who have pointed out that your LSS doesn't charge extra for a bag or for the "chore" of ringing up (handling) the sale! If you're lucky enough to still have one, PLEASE support your LSS before they're all gone!
I only ordered from them once...and that was enough. Not only were their S & H rates high, BUT they sent through my charge when they didn't have the items in stock to send me. It took over 6 weeks to get my order. I felt that was a "bad" business procedure and will never order from them again. It was like they had the use of my money for that length of time.

Good point Tammy! I have 3 LSS's in my area and they have prices that are competitive with a lot of online stores, so I support them when I can. I know for a fact that 13x13 paper bags cost $1 each! Imagine all of those customers that come in who only buy 1 or 2 pieces of patterned paper?! Yowza! (there are a lot of them.. I've worked in my LSS before..)
I order from i {heart} papers, PTI, and occasionally Two Peas (all to my american PO Box) and for the rest it's either free DT stuff or shopping at my LSS's.

My order shipped today! All of it. The shipping wasnt that bad. I ordered some Copics in my order and even with the shipping cost the Copics were less than my local source.
A potentially happy customer here - I ordered a month ago, but 2 of the items were for pre-order, so I knew it would be a while before I rec'd my shipment. Rec'd notification today that my order is shipping. The shipping charge was approx $4, and I ordered 6 items. This seems really reasonable to me, and as soon as I receive my order, will let you know of my "happy or not" status...

I have ordered from 7 kids many times. This last time I pre-ordered some stamps and it has taken a bit of time for the distributor to get them to the company. I emailed Tab and she responded very quickly to let me know what was happening--that is all I needed.
My order was sent out minus 2 stamps and she let me know when those were supposed to ship. She did not have to send out a partial order, but she did and gave me a credit for some of the shipping.
I paid with paypal and the money is taken out of my account. She really has no control over that.
I feel the shipping costs are very reasonable, but do agree that the cost of shipping paper pads is expensive, so I get those elsewhere.
I really like the company and feel that Tab does a good job with communication, prices, and product.
I will shop more at this wonderful store.

I really wish that there was a like button, like they have on facebook. I love shopping at 7Kids and I have never had a problem with my orders or with the shipping costs. You should live in Canada where most places charge us an arm and a leg for shipping and we are on the same continent. One of the online stores that I shop at has a min. shipping fee to Canada of $20 even if it is a $9 item. I am not saying that you shouldn't be a little frustrated with the cost of shipping, but it could be worse.
I live in NY and have always found it hard to think of Canada as another Country. Think of you more like neighbors. Of course the customs people don't share that opinion and therein lies the problem. By the way, the Canadian National Anthem is my favorite. Don't jump on me Americans but I like it better than ours. Uh oh - watching out for lightening strikes - lol.

I am an Amercian and I love it too!! My favorite line is "Oh Canada we stand on guard for thee"
Oh good Barbara - I always feel a little guilty admitting I love the Canadian National
Anthem more than our own. I'll bet there are more of us out there.
