Question craft show payment options

I figured all the girls here would have an answer for me. I am helping a friend of mine do a craft show at the beginning of November. My question is if you have done one do you accept checks? I would think yes, and so does she, but mostly everyone else is saying no checks. My thought is most people are craft shows are pretty honest.
Thanks in advance for your info!

I've never accepted checks. Cash only for me. It's just easier I think.

I make glass beads, then I make them into jewelry and I sell at art fairs. I accept checks only because I am not set up for credit cards. I have never had a check that didn't clear, but I feel like it is only a matter of time.

Thankfully when we do our church craft boutique, we are allowed to let people make the checks out to the church (since we donate all our proceeds) as well as give them a receipt to take up to the front register so that they can charge everything. The front register marks their receipt as PAID and then they bring it back to us to get their merchandise. I would personally NOT accept checks. Really, it's a SHOCKER who the people are that bounce checks nowadays. Unless you know the person, do NOT accept checks.....you're looking for a headache!

I have done several shows. I sell Avon, also sell finished pained ceramics and other crafty things too. I have always excepted checks and have never had one come back. Get all the information including a DL# If you want cash only then post a sign saying so. I would think that could limit your sales as not everyone carried a bunch of cash.

I have also always accepted checks and have never had a problem. I would think if someone is going to bounce a check that they would buy something more expensive than my cards and other items. I also think that if a check bounces they need the item more than I need the $. Most of my sales are $10 - $20.

I'd vote for no checks... I sold something to a co-worker and her check bounced and it was a total PITA. I was able to get the money from her to cover the fee my bank charged but it wouldn't have been that easy had it been a check from someone I didn't know. JMO!
