Default Covering Mistakes

What are some of the creative way y'all have covered up some of your stamping mistakes? I bet you have some good ones to share!

I'll start:

I made a matching set of legal pad and Post-it pad cover. I'm happy with the outside. Then came the inside. I didn't like the tree tops I stamped on the top. I tried to tell myself everyone else will think they look fine, but the OCD side of brain wasn't listening and it took over. I had to cover it up! I didn't have any more of the same giraffe print paper gasp! So I used inks to try and make the cartoonish giraffe print look more like the paper on the top of the pad. That one side of my brain is still not happy. I wonder if it will let me leave this alone?

(I just came up with a new design for the legal pad cover it's on my blog if you are interested.)

I took Jennifer McGuire's online class and it saved me yesterday as I got a spot of black ink on my white card. She showed that you could sometimes use an exacto knife to scrape the ink off and use an eraser to finish the job. I was skeptical, but yesterday I tried it and it worked....I was able to use the card and nobody would be the wiser.

Probably the weirdest one I had also involved covering legal pads. I can't remember exactly how I did it, but somehow I got all the covers on the wrong way so that they opened right to left instead of left to right. You know how you get on a roll and just crank out a bunch? Well, I made several like that.

Since these were destined for a craft sale, I was SO upset, lol! Taking the covers off would have ruined the paper, you know? So I tagged all of them as "Made especially for lefties," lol, and sold ALL of them.

I cover my mistakes by trashing the error one and just starting over. I couldn't cover a mistake, I would always know it was there and not feel right sending the card to someone.

I've put another layer over top, or added a flower. Most of the time though, I have to start over because when I make a mistake, its usually a big one. :(

If the flower or butterfly doesn't cover it, off it comes. Sometimes the OCD gets the better of me. ;)

I usually put some type of embellishment over it or another layer of paper.

I had made this card and I dropped an inked stamp on it so I made another one. Has anyone been able to cover a mistake this big, if so how did you do it?

Sometimes it is just not possible to add a flower, bow, button, etc. over an errant (finger) ink smudge or TINY colouring boo boo. I usually use watercolours with pencils or ink refills, and have found than applying a tiny dot of household bleach with a fine water brush zaps the colour instantly. Note: not all white card stock reacts the same!

Well, that is kinda big, however I have been know to do something like this:

1. Label it as a card to raise money for emergency relief (tree flying through the air) and then donate the money to the Red Cross. It is a teachable moment. (Gee, I'll avoid doing that again!)

2. Put another layer or two over the errant stamp and use the first stamp as background.

3. Flip the paper over and start again .

4. Tear the edge where the errant stamp starts and distress the edge and use it as a top layer.

4. Swear just a tiny little bit.

I usually make my most serious "mistakes" at the very end of a card. That's why I avoid stamping directly on a finished card. I'm a big chicken.

My biggest frustration is when the stamp edge picks up ink and I don't catch it to wipe it off. I have occaisonally (depending on the over stamp) been able to use my SU spritzer and do a fine spritzed back ground and it just looks like part of the spritzing. It has saved me several times...but this would just be for overstamps that are just dots...lines usually cause me to start over :-( Also sometimes you can punch an oval and stamp your sentiment on it to cover up an overstamp or smudge. I some times think I am queen of the "REDO"! I will try a couple of the idea's I read above. Thanks ladies!

"Just a card" is what you get at the dollar store. Cards we make are a little like art work that we put a tiny bit of ourselves into. We just need to remember not to take ourselves too seriously. I guess that's where the "Just a card" part comes in. JMHO

Like everyone else, I usually try to cover mistakes with embellishments like flowers, brads, punched shapes, ribbon, etc. Sometimes another layer.

There are always those that you just can't cover though, and those go into the trash heap with a couple of choice words to send them to their grave.

You really expressed my feelings perfectly. I feel like I try to make a small "Rembrandt" every time I make a card. It sometimes doesn't work out that way, but I'll keep trying My husband laughs when people say I should sell my cards. He says I couldn't charge enough for all the time I spend making one.

We all get them, don't we? I keep baby wipes to hand, and keep wiping my hands because I have had too many ink smudges that I didn't realise had got onto my fingers in the past. I check all my new stamps now before i use them, and trim off as much excess rubber as possible, due to the edges problem.
I also stamp onto a separate piece, then mount it, because I know I would mess up somehow.
When it goes wrong, I put it into my box for 'odds & ends'. Sometimes it can be sponged, overstamped, etc to make an 'arty' panel, or have sections punched out for inchies or twinchies. Or even punch out small bits & colour these, then layer onto a copy of the image, like these:

If I can't cover a mistake and have the card look perfect, I have to trash it. It would just annoy me too much.

I use my trusty spritz bottles of ink to make a splashy BG... Works like a charm as long as the mistake is small...

Hi,
Here's a daring suggestion: Do you have an art lover in the family or among your friends? Your flying tree reminds me of the expressionist paintings of Marc Chagall. He's got dreamy scenes and flying things all over his paintings. Take a leaf out of MSBetsyZ's book, add some vivid colors and turn it into a design - your art lover will be very happy about this unique card! ;-)

Marc Chagall art work reminds me of my brothers' art work. Here is some of it. Three of them are from his CD's. "Careless Carliss and the Cantelope Girls" is the name of his group. He goes by Dr. Rick because he really is a doctor. The art work and music are just hobbies for him.

If I can't cover it with something, I end up trashing the card.
