Okay - this is my first post. I have lurked, cased, drooled, sent my dh on wierd errands to home depot, spent WAY too much money, etc. etc. since I found this site last month!
I was a SU demonstrator for 6 years, then quit a couple of years ago when homeschooling 8 kids took higher priority than selling stamps (imagine!!) I still have a "supplier" who feeds my addiction. I still stamp when I can, (mostly when I shouldn't), and am still in love with these small pieces of rubber that create beautiful works of art!
That said, I used my coupon this week and bought some PearlEx at Michaels. Found the Future Floor Wax at Wal Mart.
Got out a dried up blender pen. (I would think a q-tip would work, too) Poured a small amount of Future into a little plastic lid . Dipped my blender pen into the Future, then into the Pearl Ex. Colored in my design. Beautiful! Cleaned off my blender pen with a baby wipe. Dumped the Future back into the bottle.
I have done this same technique with blender pen refill mix. I haven't liked the results I get from refilling my pens, so I just dip the tips into the refill mix and go. I use this process mostly with the blender pen and SU's stampin pastels. (I still like a juicy blender pen when using the watercolor pencils).
Last tip - I learned this a long time ago and still do it. When watercoloring (whether with the aqua pen, blender pen, or brushes), I always stamp my image on the paper, then spray with Krylon Matte Finish before coloring. This seals the ink and coats the paper so it doesn't "grab" the watercolor. Blending is so much easier.
Also, I've been stamping with brown ink then watercoloring in the image for years. I just spray with the Krylon spray first. It seals the ink and it won't bleed. You can do this with any color of ink. (try grey or navy - other favorites of mine).
Thanks for sharing. Where does one find Krylon Matte finish? Does it have directions on the can? And would it work to seal pastels? Is that enough questions? Cause I can come up with more.
You home schooled 8 children? Your own? And can still compose full sentences? My hat is off to you!
Thanks for the tips. I've been seeing alot about the PearlEx and Future. Think that will be my next project....maybe this weekend! Of course, my husband will wonder why I'm buying floor wax when we have tile, lol!!
I use Krylons fixative matte finish to seal my artwork images and pastel chalking and pearl ex. It is really great and you can still add more to the coloring after you spray the fixative on it and then when completely done spray the fixative one last time to seal everything. I get it at hardware stores and our Ben Franklin store. It's usually in with the art or spray paint sections of the stores.

The Krylon is about $5/can.
If you can find a 40% off coupon for Michaels, JoAnn or AC Moore you can use it on that.
I like to save as much $ on stuff I "need".
Get your Kryon spray in the hardware section. Much cheaper and the same thing as you now find in craft/art shops. I paid about a $1-2 for a can as opposed to several dollars.

What a great tip! Thanks for posting it. I usually use the "archival" black ink to stamp anything I'm going to color, but now I see I can use any color if I just seal it first!
Quick question...about how far a way should I hold the can, and how can I avoid drips and runs. That would be awful! Im going to have to get some of this spray!

Doesn't Krylon bill as "no runs, no drips, no errors"?
Actually, 8-10 inches back is what I do when I use the UV Resist (which WalMart doesn't carry). It gives it a good un-noticable coat. I like that part.
When I spray the Krylon spray I shake the can for about 10 seconds first, then hold about 8-10 inches away from my paper and just give it a light spray. It doesn't go on thick. Doesn't drip or run. Dries in seconds. Smells a lot, though. I usually step outside to spray. After that you can't even tell it's on your paper until you put the blender pen to it.
I aslo buy the spray at Walmart or a hardware store. Much cheaper.
