I always thought it was "cry-cut" until one day it hit me - oh, CRICKET!!! I'm a word person - and boy, I felt dumb. I was just glad I hadn't embarrassed myself by asking for a cry-cut at the store!

OMG me too! I still pronounce it cry-cut in my head every time I see the dang word!
Don't you hate those names you're not sure how to pronounce? I had trouble with Bazzill paper. I wanted to call it bah-ZILL, like Brazil without an 'r.' It's actually BAZ-zuhl, rhyming with razzle and dazzle.

I've never heard anyone say Eye-talian, maybe it's a regional thing? Do they call it Eye-taly also?
No they don't which is another reason why I don't get it! Must be a midwest thing. (Not everyone says it, just a some, including one of my daughter's teachers. Yup, she corrected her. She said exactly what you just said. LOL!)

Okay, I'll stop now.

This particular one always drives me crazy, too! I work in the field of education, and cannot believe how many so-called 'educated' professionals use irregardless! Kinda scary!
To answer the intial question: grow-grain is correct.
And it's eh-talian (like the word "it") not EYE-talian. Just so you know. LOL!
Gina K. (who happens to be eh-talian.)
We must be kindred spirits! Ok...maybe we are simply by the same things. Another one besides Italian and regardless is "unthaw", which would mean to freeze again, not to actually thaw. lol!!

Oh yeah! LOL! That one too! LOL!
That is so funny. (The truth is, I'm sure I say tons of stuff wrong too! But when you know it's wrong, then it bugs ya'!)

DH and I say "un-de-thaw", which makes something that is "unthawed" warm again. ;)

Okay, I did know the correct pronounciation for Bazill, Iran, Iraq, and Italian, however I did not know:
Cricket for Cricut--granted I don't even know what one is. I've only seen it spoken about here on SCS.
Coluzzle sounded like puzzle--again, I've never seen one either.
Now this Grosgrain, I understand that the "o" is long, but is the "s" also silent or are you all putting in the "grow"grain to show that the "o" is silent?
The one mispronounciation that really irks me is "Yuston" for Houston.

Gro-grain (long o)

OMG! Good thing I've never had to pronounce these words out loud yet! I totally was mis-pronouncing (inside my head) all these words....grosgrain, cricut, coluzzle, bazzill...!
okay, now that I realize how much I don't know, how about primas?

My mom says "you"-stun, instead of "hue"-stun, drives my husband absolutely crazy. Maybe it's a yankee thing? They know they aren't supposed to say "house"-tun, like the street in new york.
Not spelling- but don't "revert back" you'll end up exactly where you were.
