I was just noticing that so many cards don't get a comment. Sometimes they got lots of views, which I suppose is a good thing. People just don't take the time to write a blurb.
Your comments on 'comments'??
Denise
p.s. who is going to make more of an effort to leave a comment if I at least put the card in my fave file...or give it more than a quick glance when I view it. I guess it is unrealistic to leave comments with every card you look at...you'd be at the computer all day!!!!!
well, remember that those who are "guests" can not leave a comment so that may account for the number of views a card receives. Plus, there are so many cards being posted all the time! I try to leave comments when I see something I like. Takes time and the site has been a little slow over the past few days due to the server change... Take heart, it's not because the artwork is not appreciated!!
The other night when the forums were down, I went to the galleries for quite a while. I found you can call up by most views, so I went to the end of that (page 297) and found some new members with only a couple of cards posted. I thought that I would pass it along as a idea for everyone - remember when you were new, how good it felt to get a comment? There was a lot of new talent too! Some of those cards were really fave worthy.
I find that the cards I really like and would leave a comment on already have several comments. And most of the time they have already said everything I would say. I guess I just don't see the point in leaving comments that have already been made. And all of the comments are always positive. I don't post many samples, because everything is always so positive, even when I think the card is not that great. Sometimes I would like constructive criticism in my comments section, so that I can become a better stamper.
I know people appreciate them, but I think the views are more of an indication of people liking the card than the comments.
I sometimes take a look at cards that use sets that I either have or plan to get. I almost always comment on those. Occasionally there is a card for which I don't have the set that catches my eye, but for the most part, I am looking for cards for which I have the set.
With so many cards being posted daily, and the limited time I have on line each day because of work, grandkids, stamping!, that I try to comment on at least some of the cards I see. I view a lot more than I comment on, because you always have to open the thumbnail to be able to see the card's detail. If the card doesn't have any comments, or very few, I'll post a comment to get things rolling. If it already has a couple pages of comments, I may or may not do one too.

I hear ya'! Totally!
Personally, I look at comments as icing on the cake; if folks have the time and feel inclined, that's lovely!
But, while it's greatly appreciated, I can definitely understand what it's like to have work and family commitments that leave many with very limited time for doing anything more than viewing, considering the vast numbers of images that are uploaded to the galleries daily (hundreds).
I think most folks try to leave comments on things that catch our eye, when time permits, and when it doesn't, well, I, personally don't equate a lack of comments as a lack of appreciation for the piece shared. ;)

This topic comes up periodically -- every once in a while I have the time and inclination to spend time in the galleries and post comments. It is quite time consuming, even with a fast computer. But it is gratifying because I have received messages from stampers thanking me for my comments and that really made my day. It also is a great opportunity to see the vast amount of talent out there.
I now post a Stamper of the week type thing on my blog -- every thursday as a matter of fact -- and I find these folks right here on SCS!

Diane...that was such a nice thing for you to do and suggest. I know that as a fairly new person to this site, I uploaded my first couple of cards with much trepidation. i was on pins and needles until I got some comments. :-) LM
As I was JUST going to ask the question myself. I don't post often to my gallery but posted a few projects earlier today. I believe I must have broken an SCS record...at this point, over 500 views (yes five hundred), with ONE comment.
Yes, validation is nice, and I suppose the validation came from that many views in such a short time the image was posted....but WTHeck?? Is it a case of "if you can't say anything nice..." <oops, I guess the whole validation theory doesn't hold water, as I guess I'm really feeling not worthy of even an "interesting".>
I challenge you to find one with more views and less comments - else I am personally claiming this very distinguished (NOT) record.

I have been running my own "study" of what type sof cards get the most views or comments.
1) Completing a challenge and posting a link in the forum means the most views and comments
2) Using SU stuff means more views than #3
3) Just posting a card to my gallery- it may get some view and maybe a comment or 2. If the card doesn't feature SU stuff it is a dud- it may have a few views (16-20) but no comments
I also have a Picturetrail site and a card that might be very popular there might not garner any attention here.

#1 and #2 seem to be true for other people too ;)

#3- might just be a me thing ;)

The more details about the card....the more I am inclined to post. I like to look at cards, but sometimes I don't always have the time to post since I do most of this at work.
I figure as long as people are looking, I feel pretty validated about the card....
Although I posted the card my boyfriend made for me for my birthday and he got more comments than I did on any card, LOL! He LOVED it. (and as a sidenote and slight hijack....I think he is going to register and start posting his own cards.)

When the computer is running smoothly and my comments get loaded quickly, I make more comments. If I find myself having to w-a-i-t for the comment to load, I just cancel and forget about it.
Also, when I look at cards that have "something" written about them - I find myself commenting more. I like reading the little personal history of the card - did you case it? Was it a card that got good reviews at your stampin' event? Is it one where you challenged yourself to use up all of your (fill-in-the-blank)? Is it one that you actually surprised yourself with how good it turned out? Tell me!!!! ;)
I try to make comments as much as I can especially on cards that don't have comments already and to people who so nicely commented on mine. It doesn't matter to me if there is SU stuff used or not as I have a lot of non SU items. It's just there is so many cards, I have dial-up and it takes fooooorrrreeeeevvvvvveeeeeerrrrrrr to load a page of cards.
I think if you put a link to your gallery in your signature you get more attention also.
When I first started my gallery, I was disappointed with the lack of views/comments and then thought "hmm well my cards aren't as spectacular and I realize that" and "I am happy with them" so I no longer worry about it so much.
That being said I make comments every day. Sometimes as many as 20 a day or less but everyday.
Well, in just a year I have posted over 4200 times!! So I am doing my share in posting comments. And last friday I posted a cute little chef for the way to use it challang and only received two comments. Gesh, the card I posted for the ugly card contest got more comments! I am bummed but my friend that received the card, who happens to be my demo loved the card. Well, thats all that matters. Well, untill I get to be in the "top 20" I am happy with my little gallery. It does help one feel vailidated with comments but guess we have to take consider the speed of the site at time of posing and "traffic".
But I really though my little chef was cute!
