Ok I want to know how all ya'll come up with the colors you do? I mean yes I have an imagination but man o man I'm so impressed with some of the colors I see on here!!
I have a Color Coach yes, but, that just does the basics!
So anyone gonna let me in on thier secrets of putting colors together??
Try the Color Challenge thread on Tuesdays. You will also like this link to a SU color combo site. You give it a few coors and it searches for all possible combos. Good luck!
wow! what a cool site. Thanks for listing this and great question!

Making cards is kind of like putting an outfit together or decorating your house. I will match favorite colors in my clothes or furnishings. I'm always looking at nature, advertising, decorating magazines, store displays...we're surrounded by color in everyday life. I pretty much design cards by putting swatches of papers together to see what I like. Then I do my stamping to coordinate.

I have to second the color challenges- I will carry those over to my non su patterned papers as well. Also I do use the color wheel a bit and just play with it.
I usually get my colors from either patterned paper that I want to use, or even accessories and then build my colors from there! I know, it's kind of "backwards", but much like my life, nothing I ever do makes sense! LOL..
And Martha ?? Maybe a 'coors' will do for some color combo's?? *gasp*
I guess what it boils down to is trial and error and go with whatever feels good/right to you.
I usually try to pick the stamp set I want to use first so maybe I'm going about it backwards......... color first THEN stamp set.. Will try that next.
I pick my colors either from the color wheel, cards in my "favorites", or from patterned paper that I want to use.
I also have started to find myself thinking in SU colors. Like the other day I liked a patterned blouse this lady was wearing and I was thinking to myself - Ooooh that'd look great on a card - I see barely banana, ruby red, etc etc etc. I had to laugh at myself.
