Funny that the fashionistas say chevrons are out -- I just got an email this week from Archivers stating they were the 'only' ones carrying exclusive Chevron scrapbook albums. Frankly it really does not matter what is in or out. What matters is using what you like and what you think the recipient will like.
I also love owls, birds, peacocks, doilies, cityscapes, houses, mermaids, fairies, trees, woodgrain, pennant banners, flourishes. All of which are or have been popular. I always loved doilies, I bought a ton on clearance. in the decoupage section at Michaels maybe 10-12 years ago when I first started scrapbooking. All shapes and sizes. I was surprised they were not more popular at the time. I have a ton left!
I am not crazy about the mustache, chandelier, or Magnolia stamp trends. Hexagons are kind of cool, but I already have a couple sets of octagon dies from Spellbinders. Do I really need hexagons too? I dunno, they are pretty similar except for the number of sides.
I don't like trends, so don't generally buy it because everyone else is. I hate seeing everyone and everything looking alike. Whatever happened to originality? I love doing my own thing and being unique.

I am with you on this one, use what you have and love it.

speaking of steampunk did you get the paralympics closing ceremony over there in the states? it had loads of steampunk in it and was incredible!!!
if you can find it online watch it - also coldplay, rihanna and jay-z!
I love hearing that most of us agree that we will use whatever we like, whenever we like it! At least some of my stamp, paper, accessories I will buy after the trend is over and it's clearanced. Since I liked it regardless, the timing is irrelevant. Occassionally, I will splurge when I just can't wait any longer, but not often! BTW, those mustached outlets are the cutest use I have seen of them!
I don't let anyone influence me on what I choose to do, trends don't influence me much. I just choose to make what I love and go with it. Can you imagine the money you would go through if every time someone told you it was out! how expensive this hobby could get!
I spend way too much as it is.
i have loved vintage for decades. like steampunk. it seems summer is also good for the boho revival, every year. people here where cowboy boots with everything, my daughter wears them under her cleric. she still loves owls, i could never dig them. same with chevron, never liked it. i guess my whole family is hopelessly out of it! seems about right.
I use what I like and skip what I don't. Steampunk doesn't thrill me at all, however, I like to use gears for some guy cards. I kinda think mustashes are cute (maybe because my Daddy wore one most of his adult life and he was handsome! I don't actually have any mustache stamps, but thought about carving some as they would be easy. Have some barbershop quartet singers on my list that they would work for. Chevrons? Love angular stuff, so am happy to see that---thought it was a recent thing, though! The only way trends affect me is in what's available to purchase, so, if I like it I get it when it is "in" and keep using it. To each their own! Aren't you glad there is so much out there to chose from?
I don't bother with trends either, no one who gets my cards has a clue as to what's in or not! Chevrons are always going to be around as a design element, just like dots, stripes, etc.

For me when my hard earned $$$$ goes to card making supplies stuff stays "IN" for a long time in my mind! OUT is WAY out for me....such as those fun fibers from a long time ago.
I have some orange-y fun fibers in a rummage sale pile...it's a new box (never opened) I got from a rummage sale. I just looked at them and thought, "Some of those would look great on Halloween cards." ;)

I saw a Chevron scrapbook album at Michael's yesterday, lol. I think it was Branson's store. It was actually a pretty album. Didn't make me all dizzy. That's why I remember it.
I saw chevron at Scrapbook Generations yesterday too. For the life of me I can't remember what the chevron pattern was at SG. I think it was paper or an album.
Speaking of wearing...I hope capri pants are OUT!!! I have been wishing that for about 5 years. I'm short and fat and they look horrible on me.
I hear you! They look horrible on just about everyone, but sadly no one seems to realize this because everyone seems to wear them. Just put down the capris and back away slowly.
I wore my chevron skirt today and loved it!

Wait...cupcakes are out? How can something so small, sweet (both literally and on paper) and cute be OUT?? They're not "out" in my world. Especially those from Sugar Queen Cupcakes every Friday night.
Oh, you mean stamps....nope, got those too. ;-) No trend following here, I do what I want and what I like. The ones who receive my cards are happy campers with my non-trendiness as well. LOL!

I am so hoping those are out. I am 5"9 and small framed. Capri pants on small frame tall girls is not a pretty sight. I live in a town where Capri pants are the main pants sold in stores.

I know I love cupcakes too. They are so sweet. I don't like chevron mustache cupcakes, lol. I hope you all know I am teasing. Maybe. In the Kawaii crafting world cupcakes will always be loved. Thank gosh I am Kawaii crafting girl.
Speaking of Chevron I saw the most beautiful chevron quilt today. I also saw a cute Chevron stencil this week too.

That ceremony/concert was AMAZING! (I'm a huge Coldplay fan). It was NOT broadcast on TV in my area but I watched it livestreamed on the internet. It reminded me of Mad Max. And the athletes and performers were incredible and inspiring. I can't believe they did not broadcast it here.
As for the fashion predictions, I'm sure they're already looking ahead to 2014 for what to design/manufacture. I'm just getting interested in chevron!
Seems to be there's always a way to revamp anything to make it fresh. Chevrons and geometrics seem, to me, to be getting more interesting in the craft world because we have so many ways to change them up: using chevron dies, layering under dies ... different colours/techniques... changing the scale.
Isn't it kind of like fashion? Whatever is always in style, if you tweak it to make it your own and update it?
