Default Changes you'd like to see in products this year...

What changes would you like them to make in products this year? I would like to see them stop having the dies connected, so you don't have to snip them apart. I would like to see less gnomes and more cats! I would like to see more afforadable and earth-friendly options. More recycled papers etc... I think that's why I love Lawn Fawn and some of the companies I do, because they have small economical sets. And then some companies have great sales,so I can occasionally get something there, as I am trying to be careful with my spending. I also still love the digital stamps, as they are more affordable (in some cases) and take up less space.
What would you like to see?

More gap between new releases so their designers get more time to play with stuff and show more videos using that same stuff

On one hand I like the simplicity of being able to make an entire card with just one stamp set. On the other hand, there are so many stamp sets that I never buy even though I love the image because the sentiments just don't work for me or are repetitive (same words slightly different or in some cases the same) font) across sets. I'd love it if more companies sold images entirely separate from sentiments.

I totally agree - the number of sentiments that I have is overwhelming! I would love if you could buy images only. This is especially true when I see sets that have incorrect punctuation or spelling, or if it's a quote that is close but not quite verbatim...

I would love more ‘inside and outside’ standalone sentiment stamp sets, where there are thoughtful sentiments that coordinate for both the inside and outside of a card in the same set….

I also love die cuts for words or phrases that are a bit larger, to be the focal point on a card that uses a blending or mixed media background. Simon Says Stamp has several of these, as I am sure other companies do.

One thing I do love about certain companies (like Lawn Fawn and Mama Elephant and MFT) is that so many of their sets are to scale so they can be used interchangeably. I just saw a card on YT that used several Lawn Fawn sets for a darling Penguin winter creation…even ‘non’-penguin sets.

Finally, I want one company, ANY legit company, to make an actual die for a baking/cooling rack—not cookie sheets, the actual gridded cooling rack. I have Stampin’ Up’s card pack that included pre-cut racks for cards, but unless I am completely missing search criteria, no one makes one. It would make the cutest Christmas cookie card….

Good question we visit every year. Glad you asked.

I like everything that has been said already.

Gosh....Hard to say-there is SO much product out there! I suppose I am to wait till they tell me what next thing "I cant live without". LOL.

BTW-there is a LOT of cat stuff out there-I suggest you start a thread on it. You would be amazed.

I second strongly also the idea for just images and no sentiments. I do often pass on sets because of this unless they hit the deep clearance bins because I know I am only going to use part of the set.

To add...

I would LOVE to see a file cabinet that actually holds 12 x 12 paper facing forward.

I still want more diversity in the people and challenged people. I find very little Asian people characters for example. People of color is getting better, but mostly only women. I have only found 2 wheelchairs-and both children. Spanish themes like Quinceaneras. (sp) or Bat mitzvahs (for the girls) though I was thrilled to see more Pride product this year.

More varieties of flowers. The only flowers I got this year were basically out of Altenew (on sale) because they have variety. Or Paper Rose for the Australian ones. I don't need another rose, daffodil, peony, iris, or daisy/sunflower.

I believe the creators of Sentiment stamps are young and healthy because I see so few Sympathy stamps (with innies) and so few well-wishes for people who are not well. I WILL NOT send a card demanding that they "GET WELL". I have suggested to 2 companies that they produce a stamp that is kinder, saying: "I hope this note finds you feeling better." But I have yet to see this produced.
I have seen some that address long-term or possibly not heal-able illnesses. But more options would be good.

I would like more inside sentiments. I would like the inside sentiments to include "we" and "our" options. For example "We miss you" instead of "I miss you".

That's funny STINKY....I see a lot of "we" stuff and I can't use that being a single person.

I checked my sentiment list to get some set names for you-goodness I have quite a lot of "we"s!

I will go with basic
We appreciate you-Altenew build a flower Indian Lotus/Papertrey Ink Teachers Apple
We are so proud of you-Impression Obsession We are proud
We cant thank you enough-Ellen Hutson Nice of you
We have been thinking of you-Picket Fence Where ever you go
We love you so much-Simon Says stamp-Luck and hugs
We miss you-Picket fence-More for a walk in the park (add on set to a park scene basic one)
We will miss you-Penny Black, Special thoughts

I am trying to think if I have any sets that are "we" centric-all we's. I think they are all mixes of I and We. So that could be a wish for 2024!

As an experiment I went into Simon says stamp and asked for "we stamp" and a whole of bunch of sets came up that have We sentiments! Huh! Who knew you could do that? Maybe you can try that in your favorite companies.

Agreed. Sympathy (especially religious sympathy) -- you know, the stuff that really speaks to ya, and turns on the waterworks before you even get through checkout -- seems like a holy grail quest. I'm new to stamping/cardmaking, so I thought it was just a matter of not knowing where to look. Papertrey Ink has a lot of Scripture stamps that could work, but that's the only company I've found, so far, with more than 1 or 2 options.

[I would be totally grateful for any company recommendations from the more experienced posters here....]

I always liked Sweet N Sassy Stamps for their beautiful scripture and sentiment stamps. Here's a link to their sympathy stamps specifically:

I have an altenew grid cover die that if done with metallic paper I can make it look like a baking rack. ( it's just a thought in the mean time but, if you ever find a cooling rack die holler again. I'd totally buy one I have cookies in all kinds of sizes)

Catherine Pooler had a special baking-themed class or something a couple of months ago that included a sneak peek of a baking rack. The class was over $250 so I couldn’t afford it, but I was hoping to see a die or something come out of that class to purchase later. Nothing has that I can find, but I keep hoping.

I would like to see stamps that address people who have had surgery...or who have a broken leg...or the like. I won't give them a "get well" because they aren't sick. I think I have seen one "healing" stamp in the close to 40 years I have been stamping.

Oh! You know what else? "In Memory" type stamps. I follow up Sympathy cards with "remembering/honoring [name of person who passed] on his/her birthday" cards. For my fellow Catholic friends, I also do "feast day" cards on the anniversary of when their loved one left this earth. I realize that last one is very worldview-specific, but In Loving Memory/Remembering themes can be secular as well as religious.

Leading on from hoptownracer1's desire for more earth-friendly options, when is someone going to start selling card-based alternatives to foam pads? They must be the least earth-friendly product around, plus I've always hated them - if I need an element to be 3-D, I cut a piece, or several pieces, of scrap card as mount(s). Oh, and the scrap card I use isn't my own cardstock, it's bits of used greetings cards, or packaging, stuff like that. This has the benefit of cutting a piece which is just a bit smaller than your element, so it's fully supported and won't get a corner squashed in the mail.

I *WISH* that every die company would quit using double sided permanent tape to keep the die stationary in the packaging. I literally have 15 year old dies (cough Spellbinders cough) that are still sticky from that tape, even after multiple scrubbings with Un-Du and broken/chipped finger nails. Some companies do use removeable glue dots or magnet strips and I'm grateful, but the taping continues with far too many companies. I really consider it an insult to the customer.

Maybe they don’t think it would sell because so many people use their scraps or junk mail this way?

How do you all feel about the dies where, instead of having separate dies for an image, they are all together on one die? Simon has done that with a few of their layering dies and I am not sure how I feel about it. It’s Convenient to have it all on one piece and makes it less likely we will lose a tiny piece, but it requires more passes through the machine if you want to use multiple colors.

I wish that the double ended markers that companies like SU sell to match their paper and ink pads would make the writing tip fine. SU used to and now they are more of a bullet---way to fat to write a message or to go over a stamped sentiment that didn't quite print totally. I like the old, old markers. I'm still using some of mine from 20+ years ago. Some of the new markers are dry after a few uses. While we are on the subject of markers, they should be sold separately by color. Don't always need a whole set of 10 colors---just one or two.

Wavejumper, if you are looking for a 12 X 12 file cabinet try a used office furniture store. I bought one over 30 years ago and painted it lavender. It has a file in the bottom and two drawers in the top. I know these types of stores are still around because I pass one often and they have a ton of stuff outside. Not new looking but a can of spray paint can do a lot.

As for what I would love to see, my biggest gripe is the tape they put on the packaging of products. They put the tape on the top flap rather than the envelope and this makes it hard to get the product back into the bag. The thing you are trying to insert gets stuck on the tape. Put it on the envelope and there would be no problem.

I would like to see stamps that address people who have had surgery...or who have a broken leg...or the like. I won't give them a "get well" because they aren't sick. I think I have seen one "healing" stamp in the close to 40 years I have been stamping.

I agree completely. When someone is sick, the last thing they need is being ordered to Get Well.
I also dislike the sentiments "I adore you" and "you are the best." The best what?

I would like to see SU sell their stamps in storage envelopes rather than plastic containers. I would also like them to sell their markers individually by color as I also don't always need the 10 pack of colors. I know it is about money and greed but it makes me sad. I would like to see all dies come packed on magnetic backing rather than tape.

I have always found this a pain: as you say, it requires multiple passes and even for those organised enough to store all the spare cuts, they are not always in suitable colours. I have Quickutz and CottageCutz dies going back years that I've always had the same issue with. I often end up cutting them from white and colouring each piece. It's not so bad with something small and simple like mushrooms and a hedgehog; careful positioning of small scraps of card means two passes is always enough, but that doesn't work for anything with more pieces. Maybe too many people were complaining about having to cut dies apart?!

Avon Skin So Soft bath oil. I keep bottles in my craft room and the kitchen. Put a drop on, let it sit for a minute or two, then rub or scrape or scrub it off. Do it again if you need to.
By the way, save your fingernails by scraping with one of those Pampered Chef scrapers (or cheap knockoff one- I think Ranger has one), but almost any place that sells kitchen stuff will have a version. I also find that the scrubbie sponges with the non-scratch fibrous side work well.
Seriously, I have removed petrified masking tape from garage sale buys with Skin So Soft. Just be sure to wash the item well after so you don't end up making greasy marks.

I would like Spellbinders Small Die of the month to be mailed out earlier than the last few days of that month. I am annoyed that I wait a full month after the preview on the first, and then that die doesn't arrive until almost the 28th or 29th of each month. Before they 'changed the policy" on their site, I'd get my die on the 13th or 14th. Plus, you used to be able to cancel up to 3 shipments in one year - now if you do not want a shipment you have to cancel your subscription, then when the next month comes out that you want to resubscribe to, you cannot do so until after the 7th. To me, very frustrating.

I also agree with markers drying up way too fast. And, I'd like to purchase the double sided tape that new dies arrive with - I have bent a few dies trying to get them off the adhesive !! LOL. Another thing I agree with is getting one die, that has multiple areas to be cut Then, you need to cut it several times so you can interchange colors.. or if a die has a tiny flower, to make several dies instead of having to cut the individual flower (or other tiny piece) multiple times.

And, too, I iike everyone's comments and agree with them all.

I would like to see less 6x6 stencils and more normal A2, A6 card friendly sizes.

I like the 6x6 because it allows me to stencil a directional pattern either portrait or landscape. If I want a border around the stenciled area I just mask off the area I don't want stenciled.

That's funny that ChrisO would like to see die cuts for larger words or phrases. I would like to see smaller die cuts for words. More like the size I used on this card. Sometimes you just need small die cut words!

Yes, that is true! I have some tiny die-cut alphabets and have used them, though not nearly as cute as that card example. Maybe trying to line them up is not my strong suit, so I prefer a bigger font that is already ‘connected’…lol!

These are dies, by the way.

I have a set from Scrapbook.com that has 7 word dies:
feel
better
stay
strong
have
courage
hope

and an off brand- happy healing

I agree, there need to be more options than just get well (some are not going to "get well" but you still want to send a card).

I have this set from Unity that has a sentiment "Hope you feel better, a little more every day", which I used on this card. I like the other sentiments in the set, too.

So many things mentioned in this thread I'm saying a big "YES!" to. The inconvenient packaging, the need for better sentiments for healing, and just about everything mentioned!

A couple things:
Tombow and Marvy both sell water based markers open stock so you don't have to buy entire color family packs to replace a dry marker. I have purchased both brands from Dick Blick and they are both very good brands. Picture of the markers with caps off attached so you can see the tips.
Tombow and Marvy markers, picture of tips by cjzim at Splitcoaststampers

When I need a sympathy or wish for healing card I typically use a "thinking of you" sentiment. I must have a hundred "thinking of you" stamps because there seems to be one in so many stamp sets!

Hambo has a walker cling stamp and I think a single crutch...
For thems as wants a gnome w a crutch-Unity's set called Oop Gnome you didn't has one

Interesting question. I see your point about different colors. I am not a fan of solid dies with multiple pieces. I would prefer open line I can cut apart if I want to-more flexible. The kind you are talking about is either multiple passes with different colors and I make several cards or several passes with one small piece of a color for that one part.

I’ve seen many posts on Facebook in which design team members have used white cardstock for cutting the pieces, then coloring the pieces, usually using blending brushes, but sometimes using markers for the smaller pieces. And I think to myself “I wonder if they ever do this a second time.” The influencers role is to do just that—influence. I personally have avoided purchasing the type plate dies you have described. It’s way more work to use them than what I want to do.

IF I keep the cellophane, I fold down the sticky flap to prevent reinserting the contents from sticking, or I cut off the sticky flap. But for the most part, I repackage into a non-cellophane sleeve/envelope.

Another craze I would like to see fade away is stencils. Personal preference, I know, but I don’t see them as time saving or especially creative and it is one more thing to store.

Sorry I meant to respond to this before....My problem is standard file cabinets do not fit 12 x 12 paper well. Unless I am doing something wrong?
