Well, if there is a prize or promised recognition (we'll pick our three faves, we'll randomly select four to highlight, whatever), then yes, it's disappointing if there's no follow through on that. But if it's just a challenge for the sake of a challenge and I know that going in, then no, it's not disappointing that they didn't pick "winners."
I personally don't like it when contests are disguised as challenges. To me, a challenge should be to push yourself to learn new techniques or use certain products. I guess I don't like the idea that you will be judged on your work in a challenge. Once there is a "reward" and an "award" based on your finished project attributes, then its not a challenge anymore but a contest. If it were a giveaway to a random participant and not based on the work, then I don't have a problem with that. I don't have a problem with contests either and wish I had more time to enter some of them, but the host should clearly make it known that its a contest rather than a challenge. JMHO...
I love challenges! It really pushes me to create outside my comfort zone. I like challenges that have prizes but sometimes the challenge is so good, I will do challenges that don't have prizes as well! I don't like random generators, it's just me but for the challenges I have won, it was nice to know that the people liked my creations! But that's why there are so many challenges out there that can appeal to so many of us!!! Enter the ones you like!!!!
I do like it when the DT tells what about each card they liked. I always get some good ideas from those comments alone!!
I've noticed that happening more and more lately. I love to do challenges, but stop entering the sites that take a long time after the challenge ends to announce the winners.
Another complaint I have is when I win and the DT Prize Coordinator doesn't answer my emails or posts I put in the comment section of the challenge post on their blog. There's 2 DT Prize Coordinators out there that should not be in those positions as they are not on the ball at all and it's almost impossible to collect your prize if you win their challenges. I think if you don't have the time to follow up and send the prizes, then you should step down and let someone else take over as DT prize coordinator that has the time to follow through. Sure takes all the fun out of winning when you have such a hassle trying to collect your prize.
I don't think I've ever come across this problem before but then I am almost exclusively here on SCS. Most challenges I enter have no prizes at all. Its just for the fun and chatting that goes on!

I used to help administer Card Patterns, if anyone remembers that challenge site. Our prize/award was just to be our guest designer for a future sketch. Sometimes we had prizes donated by sponsors, too.
I can tell you just from running that how much time it took to write the posts, edit, schedule, etc. Then there was the contacting of prize winners, coordination of getting sketches out to the winner, getting their cards back, answer questions. It really took anywhere from 8-10 hours a week to get all of that done.
And of course, this was in addition to actually MAKING a card for the challenge myself!
But yes, I understand what you're saying and completely agree. We always tried to be on time with our posts whether it was the actual challenge or the winner announcements simply because we knew people were looking for them! Sadly, not all challenge blogs are like that. If one blog irks you like that, actions speak louder than words- stop playing along!
