Default Challenge Etiquette

Since joining the 100 cards in 100 days challenge and the Card A Day Bloggers group, I've been playing along with more challenges, here at SCS and in the outer blogosphere. I've noticed that sometimes my challenge entry will get comments from the DT of that challenge and sometimes nothing, sometimes I get comments from fellow players and sometimes nothing. I want to be sure I'm playing nicely with others. What's the generally accepted etiquette ? Or am I making it too complicated??

I don't think there are rules on commenting on cards either for challenges or in the gallery.

I really think it all comes down to how much time does a person have to leave comments. Many people are on several Design Teams. After they made a card for the challenge , photographed it and wrote a blog, they may have a deadline for two or more companies they work for and would love to comment on all the entires, but simply don't have time.

As far as other players they may also have time issues. A lot of people work and only have 15 minutes on their lunch hour to check out the challenge blogs. It isn't that they don't like your cards they may want to take a quick look at as many cards as they can in 15 minutes. Also if they are at work many companies don't allow people to use the company computer to post messages on any blog.

Others have very active lives with their family and other commitments and their time on the Internet is limited . Maybe their kids use the family computer for homework and mom gets it for a few minutes after the kids are in bed.

We all love positive feedback, and people may love your cards, but they simply don't have much time to leave comments
I leave comments when I can and I hope others understand when I don't have time

Barbara makes a good point. Some of the challenges I have done have had over 300 entries. There's no way they can comment on everyone. I generally get more comments on the smaller challenges and from the ladies in my blogging group.

That makes sense. I play along mainly to improve my card making skills and for the inspiration, so the comments are just icing as far as I am concerned. I just wanted to be sure I was keeping up my end of the deal - you know, like adding an extra card for the hostess when swapping. That is kind of an unwritten courtesy that I didn't know about when I first joined swaps.

Thanks Barbara!

Most design teams are required to comment on entries so you should be getting at least some. Now sometimes challenges do an even odd rotation so you may not get every member commenting but again you still should get some. There really is no unspoken rule about participants commenting. It's great if you have time but most often we don't do we? . I wil comment if I see a card that really catches my eye tho!

I've often seen the hostess of a challenge send a comment to all on the thread where possible. If someone sends me a comment I try very hard to respond back with a comment on one of their cards. In those challenges I do regularly I try to comment on all or most cards in that gallery. I love to send comments out and it's just my time limits that stop me from doing more.

Thanks for all the input. As a loose rule of thumb, I've decided I will comment on any cards I see which particularly catch my eye and comment back on any comments I get from fellow participants For the SCS challenges, I try to go back and comment on all the entries before mine. That way I will feel like I am sharing the love!
